Rained out at MVMCP - Refund or Tix???

We were totally rained out at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (Dec. 2002). At the time, the lines for refunds (in the pouring rain) were over 2 hours long -- so the CM gave me an address and suggested we just write a letter requesting a refund. I was so busy/stressed with work and life when I came back -- I never found the paperwork, wristbands, etc. -- and requested the refund.

Well, now we are headed back to Disney for Spring Break-- I've found the wristbands and my Disney receipt -- and I'd like to use those bucks for park entry tickets. We only need one extra day, as we already have leftover days from the 5-day park hoppers.

Here are my questions:
(1) Do you think it's too late?
(2) Could I ask for a 1-day park hopper instead of just a "refund" to my credit card? (A park pass would be worth more than a refund, because the MVMCP tickets are less than park entry tickets because of the limited hours.

Any other suggestions for me??

Also, I see on the forum lots of people who are buying MVMCP tickets in advance -- and you should at least **CONSIDER** waiting until you are in Orlando and can consider the weather conditions. We were there on an extremely rainy week. Because we had already pre-purchased the MVMCP tickets we had to go to MK at night in the pouring rain -- everything was cancelled, no parade, no fireworks -- it was miserable -- then waiting in an ungodly long line (in the pouring rain) trying to get a refund -- to no avail. What a disaster. We had panchos but our shoes were soaked/wet/squishy for a solid week!

I will NEVER buy Disney tickets in advance for a specific date again.

I doubt you'll get a one day pass, because as you pointed out, it costs more than the MVMCP ticket. They may still give you a refund, or perhaps could sell you a one day hopper if you pay the price difference.

I also had MVMCP tickets for Dec 2002, which I purchased several months in advance. Our evening was not rained out, but I know several were cancelled that year. I still continue to pre-purchase my MVMCP and CP Dinner Pkgs several months in advance. I schedule them early in our trip, so if there is a cancellation there is the chance to re-book during our stay. Although I would not EXPECT a refund for CP Dinner (since most likely I would have eaten the dinner before knowing the event was cancelled), I would hope to be able to get another seating time. MVMCP, on the other, I would expect a full refund if the main events (special shows, parade, etc) were cancelled.

Well....it HAS been a long time.

In this case I would say:

" You snooze - You Lose "

Consider yourself lucky if they refund the tickets.

I went to MVMCP that week also.
I had already done my MVMCP a couple of days before. I remember the night of Dec 5th ( I think ). I was watching karaoke at The Swan with other DIS'ers. It was pouring out so hard, all evening. All of a sudden I said to myself: " Oh no, there's a Christmas party tonight"
Really - I don't mind a little rain, but that was way too much.

I still will order my ticket ahead of time, but I don't choose the LAST party that I'm able to go to.

I would say to give it a try, the worst they can say is "No". I have a feeling they will probably accomodate your request, as far as getting a refund.

Good luck!

I would try, wouldn't hurt! I think they did give out one day passes or refunds to those who requested it.

We always go on Sunday or Tuesday night early in the month, so I wait until we get there to buy the tickets. Those nights never sellout. We were there in 2002 and I wasn't sure what to do either. It called for rain on Tuesday so I waited so see what they were saying about Thursday, that was iffy too. On Tuesday afternoon the sun came out and they said the rain had passed (after raining hard for over 24 hours straight), so I bought them at full price. Good thing because Thursday night was a total downpour again. It was still raining when we left for the airport on Friday morning, never stopped.

I'd say you should go ahead and send it in ... you might get a refund since it's Disney but then again you might not since you've waited so long. You'll never know unless you do :p

Let us know what happens!

I say give it a try and my suspicions are they will honor the refund.
I know from experience because about 6 years ago we decided to go to Disney. At the time that I was inputting my order for tickets through their website, there was a glitch and the pricing they gave me for PAP was less than a 5 day Hopper. I ordered the tickets, and when they arrived, I only received the 5 day. Well, our trip was about 6 months away (yes, I order things as I go so I don't spend the money elsewhere) and I called Disney. They told me their was a typo, not their fault, etc.etc.etc. I wrote a letter and copied the email confirmation showing the PAP were purchased. I got a nice letter back stating to bring the 5 day hoppers to the ticket window and they would give me the proper tickets.
Disney wants happy customers, they are the ones who return for more vacations. My guess, as I said before, is they will honor the refund.

I will still take my chances and order my tickets in advance in order to be sure I will able to attend MVMCP

We were there in 2002 and our night (Friday) was SOLD OUT.

We went again this year (Arrived on a Wed night) and when we went to the MK on Friday afternoon, again the MVMCP was SOLD OUT for that day. Yes, I KNOW it is a Friday night, but it is the only night we can go and because it is getting more and more popular with the guests, I will continue to buy mine in advance and take the chances with the weather.

I will purchase mine in advance also. I would probably be more worried about not being able to obtain the tickets that I wanted than the rain factor.

we were there in Dec. of 2002 and rained out of the MVMCP too. we were given park passes for one day at the MK, which we used this past Dec. we didn't wait that night, but went the next day. we asked for a refund, but they do not give refunds. most special events do get sold out, so be careful and not wait to long to get your tickets. I hope you are successful, please let us know how this turns out. Good Luck!

I think your chances of getting a one-day hopper are very good because that was one of the options they gave everyone who was at the rained-out party. I know this because I was there! The woman I spoke with in Guest Relations even told me that it was too bad I was an AP holder, because I would get a better value for one-day hopper over a refund, which I got. Hop to it, though, because it took months to get the refund. Good luck!!

We were there Dec. 2002 the night of the torrential downpours too!! We sent in for a refund after we returned home, for our un-used MVMCP tickets - got a refund on my Credit card about 2 weeks later.

Can't hurt to ask at this point, I suppose- Jill
