OMG Tantor. That made me cry. It reminded me of my grandma's dog, Smokey. I grew up with her and we were so close. My parents got her for my grandparents 3 months before I was born, so we were always attached. She passed away a year ago February 3rd after a long sickness. She had inflamation of the brain a couple years before she died and eventually lost control of everything. For the last week of her life, she got noticeably weaker and weaker every day. I went there every day after school and sat on the floor holding her from the time I got home a little before 3 to the time I left at around 5:30. She died on a Friday night a couple hours after I left there and went home. Sorry about that little flashback, I just started rambling. LOL. Anyways, when my dog, Nakita, died almost 6 years ago, I found the following poem on the internet so I printed it out and attached a picture of her to it and framed it. It is still hanging on my wall right next to my bed with her collar next to it. Then when Smokey died, I did the same thing for my grandparents and they loved it. So now anytime I know someone whose dog passed away, I make one for them and they always seem to appreciate it. It especially describes Smokey and what happened that week leading up to her death.
I Loved You Best
By Jim Willis
So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.
I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.
Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.
