What happens if it rains? Not light rain, but the thunderstorming/lightening/flooding kind of rain that we get down south quite often. Do they close the park down?
We are going in spring and now I'm afraid it's going to rain the whole time.

We've been in Spring, no rain. We've been in Summer, 3 o'clock rain, lasts long enough for everyone else to leave, we just kept going! We've been at Christmas, drenching rain..............puddling and streaming in the walkways, but they seem to have great drainage, we left, but went back later and it was wet, but drained. There was no lightning/thunder, so don't know about that. I do think Splash and Big Thunder close with lightning/thunder, and they will make everyone leave the water at the water parks, but I don't think they close the parks.

Hi,

Spring is not rainy season, so don't worry. Showers are always possible at any time though.

The parks have been closed due to weather approximately four times in 35 years, and all of thsoe were because of the threat or actual occurrence of hurricanes.

Certain attractions will not operate in a downpour, but the parks will be open, and people will be there!

:thumbsup2 When there's lightening they will shut down most outdoor rides but indoor rides should still be operating. If it's just rain...throw on your poncho and enjoy no lines!!!

We were just at WDW beginning of Feb and one day it rained from morning until dinner time.. we bought ponchos and had umbrellas and went to MGM! I can't tell you what a wonderful time we had-- NO LINES! and it felt like we had the park to ourselves! There were still alot of people in the parks, but it was less crowded than it had been days before! Be prepared to get a bit wet-- and enjoy yourself-- it is after all- vacation!! :cool1:

If it rains, they don't close the park. They'll close down the outside rides and water rides (if there's a t-storm) once it rains. And they won't run some nighttime shows, like Fantasmic, since that has life performers that would get hurt on the wet surfaces. But Wishes and Illuminations will still go on (usually). During one of our trips it was raining after dinner, and we stayed and watched Illumination in the rain. There was some lightning still (the kind that doesn't touch ground, but just shoots across the sky) which was like an added special effect! The park usually empties too, which means some of the more popular indoor rides should be walk ons. A very good thing!

During the rain many if not most of the outdoor rides shut down unless it is a very light sprinkle. Thunderstorms shut down many rides and attractions. However, as soon as it is over CM's make things up and running very quickly.

Depending on "when" in the spring you're going will depend on whether or not rainy season will prevail. It does rain when fronts go through FL during the later months and earlier months of the year. Not unusual for a T-storm to hit in November or even March but it's not an everyday even like in the summer.

We've gone several times in late April to early May and have experienced ALL types of weather, from record heat and no rain, to rain for a few days in a row (almost summerlike), to still comfortable low humidity days with very little rain.

Best thing to do is to come prepared and watch the forecast before heading to a park, if they say rain, it usually will fall sometime that day, whether a quick drizzle or a downpour with lightening. As other posters mentioned they will close outdoor rides if there is any lightening threat-but not the entire park (this usually only happens with major hurricane warnings as far as weather goes). If you were going in mid-summer then this would be something to be more concerned about but in the spring it's not an everyday occurrence so enjoy!! August and September are usually the rainiest months.

As you're out and about in the MK especially, where they seem to be more noticable, you'll see that there are lightning rods EVERYWHERE practically. They won't close the parks due to lightning, and they want to keep you safe as well.

One year, in June, our entire trip was in the rain. It rained every day, all day. Never ending rain. But, we threw on the ponchos and made the most of it. Nice to have the park practically empty and no lines!!!
