Rain -v- Scooter - I'm beginning to get anxious

We're flying in tomorrow (landing around 4.15pm all going well), and I'm having my scooter delivered first thing on Tuesday morning. We'll then be heading straight to MK for breakfast at BoG and then having a day at the park (which closes at 7pm on Tuesday for a Christmas party).

The scooter and its workings don't worry me: this'll be the 3rd time I've hired for a Florida holiday, after all. What concerns me is that there are quite a lot of thunderstorms and showers forecast for next week. I do have a full rain poncho for the scooter (which I haven't needed to get out of the bag yet) but I'm a bit concerned about how accurate these reports are. I believe the weather is rather odd this year (putting it mildly); we have come over in November before and it was mid 70s and nice and dry (one day of rain out of 14). However, I see that the weather's been pushing 90°F lately and is set to remain in the 80s for the foreseeable future.

Please reassure me that it's not going to be as bad as it looks on paper, and that I'll be able to manage without 'killing' the scooter. Having got caught in a torrential downpour last February, when the scooter died just before the French pavilion, I want to be sure I'm prepared this time. I know that it's not just the threat of water getting in from above.

To be double protected I would take a shower cap to put over the controls And then use your poncho.

I've got a full-cover poncho, not just a Disney-type one. It covers the entire scooter (and me) from front wheel to back, with just my head sticking out the top in a hood!

I'm also renting a scooter for our trip in December. I'm wondering what actually needs to be covered on the scooter during rain, the controls on the handle bars and/or the battery under the seat? Do the wheels need to be covered also?
