DH and I are planning on going to DL tomorrow (12/17) to celebrate the baby's 1st birthday and my birthday too but it looks like its supposed to rain all day. :guilty: If it were just the 3 year old we would do it because he loves to hold the umbrella but with a baby i think its going to be a challenge.

What would you do? Would you go? By the way, we have an awesome BOB double jogger and we'd bring a tarp to keep over it so we can probably keep it/them pretty dry.

If I had a one year old I'd whip out my Ergo or mei tai, put baby in facing me all cozy and warm, carry an umbrella over me, and have a terrific day!

Unless it's going to be cold out...I say go for it. A little rain never hurt anyone.

I personally would not take a 1 year old child out into the rain for an all day outside event. But that is me. I do not believe that I would care either to carry a one year old, on me, like some kind of accessory. That would really bother me, and fast. Again, that is me, someone else, might be fine with it.
I would see what the weather is going to be like the day of your trip and plan accordingly. Grant it, I do not know the distance between your home and Dl. hopefully you live close by. For me, if the weather was to be pretty decent, as in a bit of drizzle, but not much more from that, then I might take a very young child out to the park. Heavy rains, I just do not believe that I would want to do that, not until they are much older.

A most happy birthday to you and to your babe! If you visit on your birthday, do not forget to ask for your birthday button. :)

i think it all depends on where you are from...someone like bumbershoot who lives in WA deals with much wetter and colder climate than I do as I live in CA...if you are from a typically cold and/or wet climate then I say go for it...but if not then I would probably rethink going with the baby because if your not used to it then neither are they..but thats just my opinion:confused3

Good point Lucy, I had forgotten to add commentary regarding the cold. If it was to be extremely cold, I would not want to go out anywhere. Especially when it is not so much a matter of rain possibly making an adult sick, but the cold wind blowing upon you. Now that can really make a person ill, and fast.

It's actually an old wives tale that being in the rain will make you sick.

Strapping a child to you in something like a Baby Bjorn carrier is hardly using your baby as an accessory. I've actually never heard that comparison before.

So i've decided that we are indeed going. I modified the stroller with a rain tarp and i'll just make sure that i dress all of us nice and warm. I will indeed bring the hip hugger to hold the baby (though he is 26 pounds!!!), rain ponchos, and umbrellas. We'll make the best of the day!

I will be there with my 4 year old and my 1 year old in the ergo :) Didn't see this thread before I posted my thread.

We were planning on going to but I don't think we're going if the rain looks bad. :sad1: DS is afraid of the rain (doesn't like it getting on him) so I don't want to torture him and force him to have fun in the rain. We're going to wait until morning to make a final decision though. Everybody who's going, have fun and good luck with the rain!
