Hey everyone!
Kinda nervous about my trip next week. It's calling for storms everyday. :crazy2:
Now I realize this is not a meteorology group... Lol... But for those of you familiar w Florida in sept... what's typical? What's it been like? Are these typical rain for 10 mins here and there or does that mean washout? My experience w rain in Florida is that storms roll in and out pretty quickly and randomly. Is that pretty typical? I'm packing a few pairs of shoes, flip flops (sanuks), ponchos and quick dry clothes... What should I expect? Tips?
Thanks in advance!!!

What's typical:

1. Rain and/or thunderstorms are forecast to some degree every day from May to September.
2. Those forecasts, unless they cover only the next 24 hours and no more, can be largely ignored and are a WAG.
3. Florida summer rains are generally short-lived and often localized.

Ok...
Thanks so much!

Yes, as others have said, Florida often has brief afternoon showers this time of year. Your strategy of quick-dry clothes and bringing a few extra pairs of hoes is a good one. (If your shoes get really we, you can stuff them with newspaper overnight to help them dry out, or use a hair dryer!).

Ponchos are a good idea; you can buy them at WDW (about $9 each) or bring from home. I don't like Dollar Store ponchos; they're pretty flimsy and too short, and tend t cling to your legs when wet. I brought my own poncho last year, Frogg Toggs brand, at Walmart. Excellent poncho, and folded down fairly small after use to put in my backpack.

This might sound dumb but we were in DW last September and it rained often during our trip. It was a little irritating even though we had ponchos. The biggest problem for me was my hair getting wet and the water dripping down my face. I've decided next time we go, I'm bringing a ball cap or visor on the days that it might rain. Also, if you wear flip flops instead of shoes and socks, then it dries really quickly versus the shoes and socks that will still be wet in the morning.

I learned the hard way that you need a visor or baseball hat under your poncho. Only took once with glasses so wet I couldn't see to start doing this. Last Sept was the first time in 11 Sept trips where it rained EVERY day. Sometimes it was just a shower and one day it was on and off the entire day, never saw the sun. I wear flip flops in Disney but with my feet being wet for long periods of time I got BIG blisters on the balls of my feet and after a few days couldn't walk very well. So now I switch off between sneakers and flip flops. I also should mention that we have the same yellow Disney ponchos that we originally bought in the 90's and they are still in good shape.

We are going Sept. 19th thru 26th. If it rains/storms we have ponchos or rain gear. Usually it only rains for a short period of time and then stops. We go the same time almost every year and it always says 50% chance of rain or more every day we are at WDW. We have never had a full day rain out (my signature does not have all of our trips, just the ones since we got married). :)

welcome to the sun shine state. unless it is raining I think your Idea are good bring a poncho or a few quick drying cloths and extra shoes it is really hard to say if it will or will not rain ( remember weather people are the only people who get paid to be wrong) so anything more then 24 hours is just a guess. I use the weather app and it will alert me is there is rain coming about 5 or so minutes before had and even that is not 100%

Definitely take a cap to wear under the poncho hood. Also - take a binder clip for under your chin to keep the hood from blowing off if it's windy.

For the flips flops - um, be careful. Wet sidewalks means flip flops can slide so you will have to walk very carefully and that can cause problems with your feet. Also, I would advise not rushing or running with flip flops on as, well, you can fall and I've seen that many times. So, while your feet are comfortable and will dry off, you could not have a good time if you end up on your butt or worse. I'd go with a more tight fitting shoe.

Personally, I just wear sneakers and socks and take an extra pair of socks with me for later. I don't mind squishing because my feet will dry out eventually and so will my shoes.

my visor is the first thing I am packing tomorrow for my trip on Friday, it saved my LIFE (well, saved my cheer and ability to wander around outside) having it, I can go through any type of downpour as long as water isn't dripping down my face.....

I have keens, chacos, and olukai's for my trip, keep my feet from feeling gross....though I am hoping to be able to wear my rainbows in the dry times :(

We actually use a hat on top of the poncho hood. That keeps the hood from blowing off.

I see KJ2mom beat me to it. GMTA!

We might have been there at the same time... We had 2 days (both of our Epcot days) when it just opened up and didn't really stop all day. Often the rain forms right over your head, so it is even difficult to look at the radar and guess how long its going to last. We saw new stories about the local flooding from some of rain we got.

The advise above is the best... be patient, and remember, its better to be rained on in WDW then be at work! We managed to find a bench in Epcot, near Canada, that had an umbrella, and we tried to wait it out, with ponchos. No joy, it just kept coming. So we kept on our touring the best we could. (We had a duck actually standing under the umbrella with us for a while.. kept the kids entertained)

If you happen to get rain at the end of the day... try to get a fastpass for a ride that might close If it does, then you get a extra fastpass for any ride at any park the next day! When we finally gave up for the day, we grabbed a FP at 830p for test track. When I got back to the resort I had an email telling me it never opened. So we got to ride SDMT the next day in addition to everything else we had planned.

bring multiple shoes so you can wear a dry pair while the other pair dries in the room...be sure they have a non slip sole for all the wet spots(crocs are bad in rain for this reason) I bring a rain jacket that folds up small in my park bag, plus my visor cap, since I can't stand rain on my glasses.... That's about it.... once you get back to room you may have to take some time to dry some stuff, but overall it's usually fine..... I don't like ponchos, they blow around too much....

Take a pack-a-mack/cag-in-a-bag/whatever you call a small waterproof coat that packs away into a tiny space in the US.

If/when it rains, don said raincoat.

Enjoy WDW.

(Also, take a waterproof bag for you phone/other electronics).

Wow- thank you all for the great suggestions... I can't wait... just a few more days!!!
