Rain Solutions

I bought ponchos the first couple of trips. Haven't bought one in about 10 years. :)

If there were going to be all-day rain, I'd probably look for a lightweight rain jacket with a hood.

For the typical August storms, I just duck into a store for the 15 min or so till it passes, or go into some CS place and grab a drink and or a snack. Or, just get wet. I've been caught in epic downpours at WDW with no way to get inside. It's just not a big deal, I've been caught out in the rain at home. You dry off, eventually.

Thanks for all the replies!

I will pack a couple of emergency panchos but probably only dd will use hers. Id rather be wet than hot and sweaty! I am packing enough clothes so if I get really wet and uncomfortable then I can go back to the room and change.

We just got and this was my third trip in July. In the past, I never prepared for the rain. Just got wet and moved on, ususally. Our last trip though we got caught in an epic downpour that lasted quite a while. We eventually gave in and bought a couple of umbrellas. It was raining so hard the crowds totally thinned out so safety was not an issue.

So THIS time I went prepared. I bought enough disposable emergency ponchos that I had one for everyone to get through 4 rainstorms. Just popped them into my bag when we headed out for the day. And it DIDN'T RAIN ONCE!! Who ever heard of a week with no rain showers in FL in July? We really missed the showers so I stopped carrying the ponchos after a while thinking if I wasn't prepared it might rain, but it didn't help! :rotfl:

We brought one very small umbrella per person. I grabbed a few of the plastic "umbrella bags" that you can find at the front of many stores and put them in our bag as well. I found our umbrella bags at the front of Target as you are walking in. Those bags are so long, you can secure the bags even with wet umbrellas inside. Our wet umbrellas went right back in to the back pack insise those bags, and nothing in our backpack ever got wet.

If yo don't know where to put umbrellas after the storm, bring a plastic grocery bag with you and put them in that. That's what we do.

ponchos and shoes that dry fast.

I take off the poncho inside out and fold it neatly. I normally wear a belt to I just fold it over onto the belt. Storage problem solved.

If I do have an umbrella which isn't often, I will unhook my belt and slide the umbrella wrist holder onto my belt and then hook it back up. Another easy solution.

Love wearing a belt. It's so nice and useful with many things including holding up my shorts. :rotfl:

In more than a 100 trips to disney we have used ponchos 1 time that visit it rained most of the week. I've hauled ponchos to disney every visit most of the time they never even left the room now that I live local they rarely leave the car.

We just run inside a shop or indoor attraction if it is raining hard most of the time it does not rain long enough to even bother getting the ponchos wet.

Wish disney would ban the umberellas they are dangerous been hit in head by them poked in eye etc an hate umberellas never owned 1 myself an never used 1 in my 50 some years.

IMO, wait it out. Storms in central Florida generally move through very quickly. Wearing a poncho is like being stuck into a sweat box.:cool1:

We bring heavier duty ponchos or use Disney ones rather than the dollar store ones after one long wet wait for Fantasmic. The dollar store ponchos were useless and we were soaked! Last year when it rained at F! we used our sturdier ponchos and were mostly dry (and they didn't cancel the show, yeah!)

I use a umbrella. Easy to fold up and put away when finished. I'm always aware of people around me when I'm using it. I just wish people around me would watch where they are going.

I hate how people wear their ponchos indoors and brush up against you or take it off and shake it when there are people around.

Same here. We only use umbrellas.

I hate ponchos too. I use an umbrella. I understand the concerns that get posted about guests using umbrellas but I always use one anyway. I get a plastic bag, put the folded and wet umbrella inside, and put it in my backpack. Beats trying to put away a wet poncho.
