Rain Ponchos for the Big and Tall

I'm about 6'3", 290. The basic ponchos at Target / Walmart rarely fit comfortably around my big gut, and when they do, usually reach only to my mid-thigh, ensuring everything in my shorts pockets gets soaked in a WDW summer monsoon.

We're leaving in 3 weeks and I'm wondering, anyone know of any place that carries larger sized ponchos specifically for the 6 foot plus crowds ?

I tried REI and Dick's, but no help.

We go without ponchos. With the heat & humidity, it feels as if you're in a sauna wearing one. All we do is take cover or get a little wet. If you can't find a poncho, consider going without one.

If there is going to be A LOT of rain (tropical storm predicted during travel time), we do bring light rain jackets from home. MUCH more comfortable than a poncho, and we use those *only* if it's a heavy, driving, all-day rain.

Really ? I've never travelled without a poncho. Since we're going in late June, Early July, daily extended storms are an almost certainly, and since we're traveling with a bunch of people and with a somewhat set itinerary, hiding out in a crowded sweaty store or restauarant for three hours isn't going to be an option.

I find ponchos much more useful than rain jackets, as they (a) generally protect the multitude of belongings in my cargo shorts (iphone, wallets, keys, camera) and they generally can pack in the day bag a lot easier than a bulky rain jacket. I'm just sick of trying to squeeze into a one sized fits "most" (ie, not me) size and was hoping someone knew of a high quality poncho geared towards a big and tall audience.

I am 6'2 330 lbs. and I was able to get a poncho that fit me on Disney Property. They are a little overpriced, but they fit.

We actually picked two up at Target, they weren't the plastic ones in the camping section, but in the area where there were umbrellas and such. They were about 10 bucks last year, and folded up in a mesh bag. my husband is also tall, and has very large shoulders and it fit him very well. We tried them on in the store before going.
(the funny part, we never ended up using them in Disney the week we were there.)

Miaka - last time I bought Ponchos, a few years back, these were the ones we bought. It was better than most, but still a little short in the legs. Ideally, I'd like this exact size, but about 10 - 12 " longer. Problem is, last two trips to Target, they haven't had these in stock ... just the cheaper Coleman ones in the camping department.

DH is about 6'5" with broad shoulders and he has one from Bass Pro Shops. I bought it a few years ago, and it fits him well and covers most of his legs. I'm not sure if they still sell them, but it may be worth a try if you have one nearby.

the other option we looked into was a place in town we have that is a camping/military resupply place called Canfields in Omaha, they were bulky but they went to our feet. LOL...
probably more then you want but maybe lookat some of those types of places.

Thanks, Brookmey. I haven't checked at Bass, but I will. I don't have a Bass nearby, but I am driving out near a Cabela's next week, and that is one place that might have what I need.

Still hoping I can find one online with good reviews, though my Google skills seem to be lacking.

As for the Disney Parks ponchos, maybe they have changed suppliers or something, but the last one I bought (2009) barely covered the bottom half of my butt. Not willing to overpay for those beauties again.

DH is shorter but bigger, and we bought some NON-disposable, folds into a pouch, ponchos from ricksteves.com. They are not cheap, especially if they aren't having a free shipping offer (though I didn't check where you live...if you're near Seattle, just go up to the store in Edmonds), but they worked very nicely.

I'm 6'4" and 290. Cabela's would be my first choice then a military surplus. The ponchos we had when I was in the Army (I weighed a lot less then :rolleyes1) were any thing but comfortable though.

Thanks, Bumbershoot.

Do you know if these the Rick Steves ponchos you were talking about ? I actually had read about those and checked them out on Amazon and, of course, the first user review was a guy saying he was 6'2" and the poncho, while great, only went to mid thigh and halfway up his arm. Grrr. That makes me worried.
