Hi! My son is almost 5..on the small side. Anyone have experience with the rain ponchos. Would he be better off with a rain jacket? Just wondering how they worked for your little ones? TIA :)

I think you will find most people voting for the poncho since you can get them cheap ($1-2) and are disposable. We opted to get the rain jacket from Wal Mart for $7. Being that we are from the Pacific NW we will use the jackets again and felt the few extra bucks was worth it. Also feel that the jackets are less bulky and they would stay drier.

We use the ponchos. Have found them easier for us. You can roll them into a ball, about the size of a tennis ball, four of them fit nicely in the bottom of daypack. They dry very easily as well, just simply shake well, wipe with several napkins, and roll tightly. They are very durable, been using the same ones for several years....................:cool1:

I have found disney themed rain slickers at Sears and Target in the past.
I need to get one for DD this week. But they used to run $12 or less.. less is better :) And come in different sizes. They come in a plastic pouch, I saw Cars and Princess ones, the last time I looked.

I really like the disposable poncos that Walmart sells in their camping dept. Very small and compact prior to opening, and can be folded up and put back into your backpack easily. They are lightweight. We use them a time or two and then throw them out. Less to carry!

For DD, when she was little, I would just tie a knot in the plastic at the bottom of the poncho -- one knot on each side -- to shorten the poncho so she didn't trip. Worked fine for us.

As for the Disney ones, they are heavy and bulky and do not fold up small. I have a set but I refuse to carry them around.

A rain jacket might be nice if the weather is going to be chilly and you'll wear it a lot. But if the weather is warm and you just need protection from the rain, I'd go with a cheap poncho.

Is it easy to find the ponchos ? They all over the park ?

I would try getting them at the dollar store or walmart or somewhere, rather than at Disney. They are SUPER expensive. I staryed buying them once at DTD not knowing the price, and I had them reverse it because they were something like $30 for 4 of them. :scared1:

Quick tip, if you buy the ones that are thicker and will last longer, take a gallon size plastic baggie to carry it in if it stops raining, that way you don't have to worry about it getting anything else in your bag wet, nor do you need to consider drying it off prior to packing it away. :)

In our WalMart they carry kid size and adult size ponchos that come in their own little pouches. They are near the umbrellas in the accessories section of the store - in the store near me. They usually have different colors. We got a pink one for my niece when she went with us one year. They were about $3 or $4 and were thicker than the ones in the camping section. The kid size worked great for kids. :upsidedow

Check it out - I have 1500 posts! Cool!

A couple years ago in the dollar section at Target they had kid sized ponchos. I bought a couple for our Disney trip that year and look all the time to see if they got them back in. If I ever see them again, I am going to stock up for future trips because they were the perfect size for little ones!
