So I finished making my t-shirts, I made like 30 of them! After I was all done, my husband brought up a good point.....will the designs run if they get wet? I used the Avery t-shirt transfers for dark shirts. Anyone have any experience with rain in disney and their shirts?

I also used Avery for dark shirts. This is my first time making shirts also but I did use a vinegar wash like some suggested.

I've made shirts for our past 3 trips. The first trip I used Avery transfers and the last 2 I used the ones Amy sells. I did have a few run when they got wet, either from the rain or a water ride. I've never had any problems with Amy's transfers.

I really wish I had time to order Amy's transfer. Everyone says they are the best! But we leave Friday! I just stumbled on the Disign boards looking for mousekeeping envleopes!!!!!!

So what can I do to protect the ones I have already made from running? I will be soooo disappointed if all my hard work just washes away! :sad1: What is this vinegar wash and is it too late to do?:confused3

someone also suggested using Scotchguard over the DISign and I'd like to hear more about how that works out!

The vinager wash 'suppose" help to set the colors and help stop it from running.

Use one cup of vinager in the wash and your good to go.

OK, so disigns done....now wash the shirts in 1 cup vinegar? Do I use detergant as well?

I made 26 shirts last year. I did not do the vinegar wash. Used Avery transfers. For some reason only one of the designs ran, the rest were completely fine. A year later many of the shirts look like I just made them while a few have peeled. Very strange because the transers were all the same. I plan to try Amy's this year.

No, just run the washing machine with the vinegar. I've done this for brightly colored shirts that I dyed for my boys (pre-school project), and it really helps to set the colors. Don't worry, there is no vinegar smell when you are finished. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Like a previous poster, I made about 20 shirts with avery and only one ran on a pouring day:(
I did not wash them after I made them.

I have probably made 40 -50 shirts over the last 3 years, I have never done the vinegar wash and I have never had a shirt run. I have had some crack and peel after a few washes and some that look as good as the day I made them.

I always wash my shirts, no fabric softer, and dry in my dryer before I iron on a transfer. I have used Avery from Staples and the transfers from Wal-Mart craft department and also from AC Moore and Michaels.
