Hello, I have not posted here many times. I read the boards everyday to keep motivated, but I am in major need for advice. I am running my first half this saturday in akron ohio. I have been crazy about checking the weather. It was supposed to be sunny up until today it says showers all morning. I have never ran in the rain. What do I wear? How much more difficult will it be to run?? Any advice would be helpful it has a 13:41 pace requirement I have been training with a 11-12:00 pace. I am hoping the rain won't set me back too much. Thank you and I am sorry that I am freaking out. :confused3

Take a large Glad trash bag with you. Cut out a whole for your head. If you want, do arm holes as well.

The taller the bag, the more you will stay dry. You can either dump it at the start, or fold it up and carry it if rain is still looming.

You'll see lots of racers wearing garbage bags at the start. It keeps you warm, and saves you from throwing away a extra jacket, sweatshirt, or tshirt.

Slather your feet in Bodyglide, and Vaseline, then put your sock on.

First up, invest in some waterproofing spray for your sneaks. It is well worth the money. Wet feet equals blisters. Definitely do the Body Glide or vaseline also.

The garbage bag is a great idea at the start but I cannot imagine myself, personally, running in a garbage bag. I have a water repellant jacket and also a vest that I use when it is raining. A hat is always a good plan to keep the rain out of your eyes also.

Running in the rain is very peaceful (although probably not during a race where everyone is splashing you!!) so relax and enjoy the race!!!!

It's only 20-30% chance of "light showers" so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If it does rain it will probably be smaller rain drops that will be more refreshing than a set back. I'd still recommend at hat or visor to keep water off your face. Enjoy and have a good race!

I like the cheap rain ponchos, the ones that cost from 99 cents to maybe a buck 39. If you get hot, you can wave the bottom and cool off, you can wad 'em up and stick them in a pocket if the rain stops but you are afraid it will start again, it will help keep you warm, It has a hood for your head, and most of all, tossing away 99 cent poncho is easy to do!

Waterproofing shoes.......priceless!

Thank you for all the advice. After all of my freaking out it did not even rain until after the race. I was equiped with a poncho, bodyglide, and waterproofed shoes and the weather was perfect. Now I will know for next time. Thanks.
