Raglan Road's fish & chips...genuine?

Has anyone had the fish and chips at Raglan Road? Did they seem "authentic" or were they just run-of-the mill? I mean, were the chips really chips, and was the fish really good, or did it all seem fresh-from-the-freezer?

The CS place outside Raglan Road has fish & chips that are comparable to the best of what I get in London. I've never ordered them in Raglan Road because the rest of the menu is so tempting, but the quality of the food and service was very high.

I presume from your comments that "genuine" == "Not pre-prepared and heated".

DW had the Fish and Chips. I have no doubt that they were freshly prepared, but the fish was incredibly bland. The batter added no taste - much prefer the fish at R&C.

We'd still eat at Raglan Road though - there is plenty of other yummies on the menu!

It's been a long time since I lived in England, but from what I remember they are pretty similiar. Now that I think about it, I miss walking down to our neighborhood fish and chip shop. It was so long ago, they used to wrap your fish and chips in newspaper. I don't think they do that anymore.

My DW and I actually like the fish and chips at Ragland as much or more than we did in the UK. We've been across the pond a couple of times and love a good plate of fish and chips.

I can tell you this, Ragland Road has better fish and chips than 75% of the places we hit up in London, Wales and Ireland. And I believe the fish in flown in daily from Boston.

The fish is much better than The George in London, not as good at the 903 pub in Galway. But then again, I'm from Oklahoma, what the hell do I know about fish and chips!!!

They stopped that ytears ago as a health issue.but let me tell you fish & chips taste better wrapped in real nespaper. Most fish & chip shops offer choices of fish which usually include cod and plaice ( my favorite) Still looking for anyone who has tried the sole & chips??

My husband and younger son had the sole although not this trip. I don't remember it coming with chips though or maybe we just asked for them to substitute mashed or colcannon instead. The sole wasn't filleted at table as is the custom around here. It was breaded too which is also unusual for us. My DH thought it was good but just that.

I had the fish and chips once and prefer it to R&C. The chips are not round slices though but more traditionally cut french fries. They were very good with that very slight sweetness that signals fresh cut to me. And they are served together in a paper cone.

Living in the UK and having had fish & chips a few times over the years I can say that the fish and chips that we got were really good from Raglan Road last month. My DD is a fussy eater and she cleaned her plate.

So it doesn't come with the head on/ I couldn't handle that, It didn't sound like it was breaded though! Any thoughts on the stuffed pork!?

I had them two weeks ago and thought they were awful (by far the worst meal of our trip). They were cold, slightly undercooked (the batter was a little doughy) and somewhat soggy. Yuck.

Luckily, I got my fish and chips "fix" at the Yorkshire County Fish place at Epcot. They were very good, and a huge portion!

I haven't been to RR yet, but the ones in Epcot (the window by R&C) are really nasty. We've tried them a couple times too, so it's not a one time random mistake thing. We've also been to England and had the real ones (in newspaper, lol) and the ones in Epcot were a poor substitute. I actually think Long John Silvers is better than those! The fish and chips in Epcot are just tasteless and heavy. Ick. (and really, how hard is it to make that good?)

I am glad to hear folks say the ones at RR are better, I'll have to try them next trip.

I'm not an expert on what authentic might be, but I thought the Fish and Chips at Ragalan were terribly run of the mill. About the same as you'd get at Arthur Treachers. And the portion size was quite small.

I had them two years ago. Both places.

I haven't been for real fish and chips since I visited my sister in Scotland in the 80's.

But I thoroughly enjoyed them.
