I have got to know the manager of this hotel before I went and more so since our return, this is due to me requesting an extra clean room due to some severe dust allergies I have. He sent me an e-mail last night offering me a deal for the luxury tower but he also confirmed something important that may affect alot of Brits.

The Barcelo is appearing in more and more brochures recently, certainly in First Choice that i have seen in the past two weeks. The manager confirmed that the Standard Outside corridor block would be closed from July for full refurbishment, now in the brochures i have seen there is no mention of this- expectedly so as I only think this info was received by him yesterday.

If anyone is booked there then it may be an idea to contact your agent asap to ensure this is resolved quickly. I am sure this wont take too long to filter through the channels but people can jump the rush as there were an awful lot of Brits there at the same time as us.

Thank you for the warning Rob :)

Did you enjoy your stay here?

Yes we did, they are a very good room for what we paid (£30 a night), it is quite big but mainly on a par with other outside corridor design of room. I think it will certainly be worth a look for the 2007 season when the standard block re-opens.

We were on the 4th floor and 5 along the corridor. As i have said Andy the manager and Jan the Duty manager ensured that the room was vip cleaned and the aircon machine was pulled apart and the filter etc replaced. Jan instantly recognised us on arrival and personally greeted us. We had a follow up call from Andy and Jan over the next few days to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.

Pool area was due a lick of paint but i suppose they would wait till off season, the pool bar "Ripples" was lovely with the obligatory happy hour from 4-7 Mon to Fri with US Beer a buck a go. The lovely lass who works there bought the kids a drink on the last night and came out to hug them both.

Couldnt have been happier.

When you think of what £30 would get you over here Rob!!!!!

I am glad you enjoyed it and it sounds like they really took care of you :)

Thanks for the info, we stayed there in September but in the outside corridor block. We found it okay and the staff were great and are considering it again for next May.

During our stay they had to replace the power system for our block, i think the power company had some real problems that day as they finished after midnight. The hotel shipped in the snap type night emergency lighting for all the guests..they could have done nothing but they sorted anyone out who needed/wanted their help. Respect was due.

Cazzie, With the renovation of the standard block I think it will be certainly a hotel to be reckoned with.

Wasnt hard to please really Miffy, Parks all day and the World Series almost every night for the whole time...What does Justin Timberlake say??????

I'm Lovin it........... :cool1:

hi, i have found what i THINK is the radisson barcelo for £26 a night on Hotwire. The dates are 29th june - 6th July.

Does anyone know what dates the renovation starts? Is it the whole outside block going down at once which might mean i am in the tower?

Think i should go for this hotel at this price??? sounds like a fantastic deal.

thanks

I think you are right, it is situated in a really nice place. We loved it and I would definately go back there. :)

Andy Schiavone who is now the ex manager did e-mail me with details that they have postponed the re-fit from Jult till later in the year. He has moved onto another hotel now. At that price it is a steal. Shame we are goingto a villa this year, he gave me a deal in the luxury tower that i would have took had we decided on a hotel. He even guaranteed it even though he has left. Says something of the service there.

I have PM'd you stal.
