I was interested in taking a Radiographer program but wasn't sure what the kind of jobs I would really be doing when I got the degree. I have always been interested in the medical field, but not so much nursing/coding/billing type of thing. Does anyone here have a Radiographer (I've also heard them referred to as X-Ray techs) type of career and if so, what are the pro's/con's? Or is there any other info I should know? Thanks for any help!

You would be working either in a radiology department of a hospital, for a radiologist in his office, for an orthopedist or another physician who would require you to take xrays. I am not an xray tech but my BIL is and he really likes it. Around here, it is difficult to get into the programs because there is good job opportunity and they receive a lot of applications for a limited number of spaces. Other areas that are related are radiation therapy, nuclear medicine technologist and MRI tech or Ultrasound technician. All are good areas of health care to pursue. With many of the jobs, depending upon the area, there is good pay. Last year BIL made $100K with overtime.

I agree with the above. If working in a hospital or healthcare institution you may have shift work, weekends, and holidays. But the pay is great!!! If you work for a doc such as an orthopedist the hours are usually normal workday hours (ex. 8 - 4), no weekends or holidays (usually). The pay is still good but usually not as good as a hospital.

HTH!!!!
