Hi
I get to rent a car this next trip and wondered which radio stations you suggest.

My preferences

Jazz
Public Radio
40's,50's, 60's,70's music
Disney music?

Thanks

Jazz 103.1 FM
Public Radio 580 and 1190 AM
40's,50's, 60's,70's music 100.3 and 98.9 FM
Disney music? 990 AM

103.1 WLOQ is "smooth jazz".

580 and 1190 are not public radio, they're talk radio stations. 580 is heavily into right-wing syndicated talk shows. The only local programming is the morning news show from 5-9 weekdays, and on weekends "Ask the Experts" call-in shows used by local businesses to promote their services.

The actual PBS station is WMFE at 90.7.

Orlando doesn't have any true oldies stations, unless you get a car with an HD radio. 100.3 is a Spanish station. 98.9 plays mostly soft rock from the 70's onward. 105.9 is similar, but maybe a bit softer.

For music from the 40's and 50's, and real oldies, your best bet is to get a car with Sirius or XM satellite radio; I think some rental companies offer that option.

My preferences

Jazz (SIRIUS and XM 71)
Public Radio (SIRIUS 196 and XM 134)
40's,50's, 60's,70's music 40's on 4, 50's on 5, 60's on 6, 70's on 7
Disney music? (SIRIUS and XM 115)

That is, assuming, your car rental provider gives you a car equipped with satellite radio (after all, who wants to hear a bunch of commercials for stuff in Orlando?) :-)

Also keep in mind, "Disney Music" is commonly defined in the radio business as Jonas Bros., Selena Gomez, etc. and the only channel playing that format is "Radio Disney", which in most cities (including Orlando) is on the AM dial and of questionable sound quality - I am not aware of any commerical or satelite radio format that plays Disney show tunes or theme park music.

Unfortunately Joelkfla is right--REAL 40' 50' and 60's music isn't available w/o Satellite radio.
Lucky for us tho that last trip we rented a Sonata from Alamo and--it had Satellite radio hooked up and ready to go!!!

I read that Budget is now offering a portable satellite radio that works on any car with an AUX input on the radio, for $5 a day. It's supposed to be available at MCO.

Hertz also offers this for $5/day, $2.50/day if you're a AAA member. Some cars in the Alamo/National fleet include satellite radio at no extra charge but you have to hunt through the cars on the lot to find one that 1) has it & 2) it works!
