I thought I read somewhere about WDW making a new place called Radiator Springs where you could drive a car around the track and stop in at shops like Luigi's and there was going to be a restaurant too. Anyone else hear this??

I think all this stuff was destined for the Disney Land CA renovation. Route 66 remake I believe (silly dinosaur with sunglasses, wine and tortilla chips are for adults! (and very boring)).
Gawd I hate CA. Walt is rolling over in his grave.

Hello there, we attended a Doorway to Dreams sales preview for Baylake Towers in Illinois last February and they had shown drawings of the upcoming Radiator Springs in Disneyland in 2011-2012. We're pretty excited to hear about this too. The drawings were really nice, it did have rides, shops and restaurants. I hope more information is available soon. We were not given information to take home on this just shown pictures, sorry nothing to visibly share but, it was really cute.

It's already under construction an part of the big DCA expansion.

I just got back from Disneyland. Half of CA Adventure is boarded up and under construction. Lots of renovations in Disneyland too. I was really disappointed that Space Mt was closed for the holiday overlay and reopened on the day I flew home....

1) It is about time they are re-doing parts of CA.
2) They designed parks poorly, then skimped at implementation, just like at
. . . MGM-Studios
. . . Animal Kingdom
. . . Studios-Paris
. . . Hong Kong
. . . Pleasure Island
. . . Toon Town
3) And, everyone knew it - people are not as dumb as Disney thinks.
4) It has been losing money from the first year.
5) And, rides were dropped starting in the second year.
6) Many of us are getting tired at the alleged Imagineering. *
7) There just is no longer any "imagine" in the title or function.

* Imagineering has been stripped down and most of the engineers laid-off. The departments have been moved and buildings shuttered. Think of the great potential of something like an AK! Pitiful. Just plain pitiful.

DCA will be building "Cars Land". We all thought Radiator Spring would have been a better name, but they seem to be going with the other.

I love DCA- of course DL is better, but I never thought DCA was bad. Yes, they could have done it better. But I am very excited about all the improvements. DCA is good for hopping over to when DL gets crowded- about noonish. The Monsters Inc ride is incredible with its many details, Soarin Over CA is wonderful and I love TSMM and Screamin. There is a lot to do there. And the Pixar Play parade is better than the current one at DL. I'm also looking forward to the Little Mermaid ride.

Debbie, too bad you missed the Space Mountian overlay. I have heard very good things about it! I can't get there this October, but hopefully they will do it next year. I will make the time!

MGM studios was a response to US and brought the CA studio experience into FL. It was never an exciting theme to me but it added a needed persona to the Disney Parks, so I understand why they built it. It's evolving and taking on a decent form lately. I will admit that for park physical layout and flow, it is probably the worst one out there. Frankly I feel it is the park that could have used a refurbishment the most.
I've always enjoyed AK. It lacked enough rides and attractions at the beginning but it is getting there now. However, even at opening it definitely had what I would consider great Imagineering. The animal safari itself is a ride that is almost the size of the MK. That is a pretty awe inspiring accomplishment. Also, the details and openness of the animal enclosures and their ability to hide the compounds from the human perspective are incredible. They put any zoo in the US to shame. While the Dino section has always kinda of stumbled around (don't care much for the carni theme) that fumble is excusable to me just for the details and granger nous of the rest of the park. Also, for form and flow they went back to a hub design that is very functional. It is also just a very relaxing park to me.
The foreign parks can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. They should only exist to give foreigners an itch to come see the real things in the US.
Pleasure Island was pretty exciting in its heyday. While I'm not big on Disney shutting it down, I understand why they did it.
Toon town was designed to be a temporary addition.
I will stand by my assertion that CA is the worst and most anti Disney Park built. All the theming is local. Why go to a park that has themes when you can just go down the street to the real thing? Many of the attractions are anti kid or just boring. I think they were going for an Epcot feel but failed miserably. It would be like being a native Floridian and going to the World showcase in Epcot to find it themed after Miami or something like that. How ridiculous! Also, flow and function for CA are not very good.
I see why Disney wants to throw a billion dollars at rebuilding CA but considering it is a brand new park I find it unfair to the older parks in my mind. They should just live with their mistake for another 10 years and spend the money on a park that needs/deserves it (Epcot IMO).

Could you flip flop more. You love Hollywood studio's and hate DCA because of the adult theme rides and horrible layout. Although in your same post you do tell us the Hollywood studio's has a horrible layout. Correct me by posting all the kid friendly rides that Hollywood studio's have that can not be found in the dreadfully hated CA.
You love AK. It puts all animal parks to shame. I must suggest you get out and check out other animal parks. I am not talking about going to you local zoo either. Maybe go to San Diego and check out the animal parks they have there. I have been on an african safari (in africa) and wow this might come as a shock to you but we didn't go looking for poachers. Guess what we were looking for. (animals)
Don't get me wrong I do prefer to go to WDW instead of Disneyland resort but, that is only because they do offer more parks with more rides and wonderful deals that CA doesn't offer.
We plan on returning to Disneyland resort as soon as the construction of the new land is done.
I think Walt Disney and his family have done well with there money. Bet they are laughing all the way to the bank. How about you?

LOL,
Definitely didn't say anything about loving MGM Studios. I guess when you put words into other people's mouths it's easy to come up with the assertion they are flip flopping.
I clearly said that MGM studios was "never an exciting theme... I understood why they built it... for park physical layout and flow, it is probably the worst... Frankly I feel it is the park that could have used a refurbishment the most."
I merely asserted that overall CA was worse and more anti Disney (he would be rolling over in his grave).
While MGM (Disney Studios) suffers from a lot of problems, CA suffers from nearly all the same plus more. DS=Lack of attractions, bad layout, less kid orientated
DCA=DS+even more adult orientated (IMO), local theming, lack of Disney theming.
Disney did not like boardwalk amusement parks, so what do they do? Build DCA with a boardwalk theme. Early Disney execs made sure not to use local theming, so what do they do? Build DCA with all local theming. Those are huge mistakes over DS, no if and or buts.

I guess you are referring to San Diego Wild Animal Park? It is pretty cool and if you combined it with the San Diego Zoo I would say it is a better animal experience than DAK. Unfortunately, you would have to add a third park (six flags or something) to top the AK's thrill rides. So to best DAK you would have to visit three different parks. I think that is a pretty impressive accomplishment by Disney. Yes I wish they didn't open AK short two lands and really think they shouldn't have opened it at all until they had at least Asia finished.
I really have no idea what a real African safari has to do with anything in his conversation? On all the above mentioned domestic attractions you will probably see a wider variety of animals and probably most of them up closer without the shots.

I'm guessing that they aren't laughing all the way to the bank considering that DCA has been operating at a loss since it opened (Hence the emergency remodel so soon after it opened). I'm sure they are very upset that they have to spend a billion dollars to fix such a huge blunder. I don't have to spend a billion dollars to fix any of my mistakes so I'm doing pretty well actually, thanks.
Frankly I would have been more confident if you were to take any Disney whako (affectionately meant) from this site that they could have come up with a park theme that would have easily outperformed DCA.

I have to agree 100% with Disco and take it even further. AK is an amazing park. It flows so well. I refused to go to AK for years because I am a Disney purist and I didn't think I would enjoy going to a zoo (what I imagined it being) at Disney world.

The first time I walked in the gates there I was amazed. I had goosebumps. It was so lush walking through the beginning area with all the greenery surrounding me and the animals with CMs standing there to explain anything you would want to know about the animal. Then when I started venturing into Asia and Africa, it was so immersive. AK was a MUCH better park than DHS because it seems so much more planned out, not just thrown together. I would take a day at AK any day over San Diego zoo or any of the other attractions there.

Add in the Nemo Musical, The Fesitval of the Lion King, that musical group (don't know their names) that plays the Caribbean style music, the rides, and the Disney Magic.... it's utterly amazing.

As for DHS, that park was horribly thrown together. I still don't like that park that much. I go, but I am not rushing over there. It's ALWAYS packed (feels like it is shoulder to shoulder). The lines are ALWAYS long. And the layout is so odd (with the dead ends all over the place such as by the Aerosmith ride.

Not to go too far OT...I agree a ton with this...though our first trip to AK was a bit of a disappointment, each trip I enjoy it more and more. If you are all about rides - it's not that great...and actually could use more. But for overall theming and experience, it is excellent. Yes, it's not quite on the level of the best zoos in the world, but it's Nahtazoo! It's the one park I never feel like I have enough time there...if only I could just relax when at Disney. If MK is a home run, and DHS is a single, then AK is a clear triple. (Give Epcot a triple, too!)

DHS...while having some excellent individual rides and even a few great shows feels like a disorganized mess of a park. The "theme" areas barely differentiate...I guess if you wanted it to feel like a movie studio that was thrown together with no plan, then good for you. The food is generally awful, and it doesn't help that (for the most part) Universal does movie rides so much better. Closing the working studios makes a lot of the stuff seem useless. (Backlot tour? Please!) While I'm happy for a MK expansion - DHS really could use a major overhaul.

I agree totally with this post. AK is an immersive experience. Walt would be proud.

But I want to make clear, and I am sure I am speaking for all of us, even though DHS is not as Disney-like and ideal as the other 3 parks, I still enjoy going there. It's part of the Disney World experience and has been improving in recent years. I hope to see more improvements to make the park more well rounded.

Thank you Disco. I'm sorry. Guess I misunderstood what you were saying in the post. My bad.
I guess I really need to go back and try to understand what some of the parks are suppose to be.
I'm simple minded. Thinking animal park meant (you would see animals) animal park. A studio park (hollywood studio) meant you would see what a studio would have.

Yeah,
First time I went to AK it didn't even have Asia open so that really put me off for a while. While I still enjoyed it was just like "that's it?"
Fast forward to today with EE and everything else and I consider it pretty complete. It's just a really relaxing park for me as well.
"Run, run, run to Everest... oohhh, look at the monkey!"

I enjoy the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, so not trying to belittle them. It really isn't apples to apples comparison.
However, IMO you have to go to both to outdo the AK animal experience. Yes San Diego has more animals, but look in one cage move to the next. Some of their exibits are immersive so it's not all like that to be fair.
Even the Wild Animal Park it's drive, hike or segway a 1/4 mile look at a big animal pen surrounded by chainlink fence, move on to the next. There are some immersive experiences as well as some experiences not offered by Disney but at the AK it is all much more immersive.
While the safari is gimmicky with chasing poachers and such, the animal pens are near invisible. The animals look like (and some do) they can intermingle. The entire area looks and feels like you're in Africa.
Same with the walk through animal trails. If they are obviously in a pen it is dreesed up to look like Indian ruin or such. Just an absolute A+ for details.

I don't hate the Studios either. I still enjoy going to them. They're just my least favorite of the parks in DW and I don't love them.
DCA was the first Disney park that I did not enjoy. Pink Cadillac with crappy animatronics of Drew and Whoopi? No, that’s scary and not in a haunted mansion sort of way.
A film by Whoopi advertising California? No, that's what commercials on TV are for.
A tasting tour of a fake winery and tortilla factory? Where am I again?
While I didn't hate many of the boardwalk rides it just lead to the question of why I didn't save myself $50 and go the real thing at the beach?
It is almost an out of body experience when you first come to the realization that you didn't enjoy (or at least wonder why your wasting your time in) a Disney park. Utterly crushing....
I'm sure after they are done remodeling DCA it will be better than DHS. My feelings are that it should be closed and shuttered, left as a reminder of horrible Disney decision making. "Hey, we should do something with this parking lot..."
