Racism In Your School

I totally agree with you Caitlin. My old school would decorate our school around December in different things for kwanza and hannekauh [sp] but we weren't allowed to have any Christmas decorations or even say "Merry Christmas".

It's political correctness that's overtaking the world. :sad2:

I don't think my school would really care.My school is made up of basicly all white kids,There has only been two black boys (no girls)that i've seen so far.(I'm on my last school year!Yeay!)

Love is love and you dont always have it in your life so get it will you can.

there are a few blacks at our school, but a lot of mexicans. 97 percent have NO manners at all.

But some are nice. Then there are white. Most whites then mexicans then blacks.

but no racism, at least not that any one knows about....

Even though we were never allowed to say Merry Christmas -- teachers still put up xmas trees in their classrooms, and they still referred winter break as 'christmas holiday.' It still comes out.

Racism is a HUGE issue in my high school.

A rough estimate of how diverse it is: 60% white, 30% Indian, 5% Asian, 3% Central and South American, 2% Native and Black.

In our school of 2,000 students we have exactly two black people, and two half-black people. They are all pretty much normal, and I have never heard any of this ''white trash'' stuff coming out of their mouths. It's not like black communities in the USA trash-talk white people for no reason. Where do you think the discrimination came from in the first place?

The real racism issue in my school is between Indo-Canadians (brown people as everyone calls them) and white people. For over six years we have had two gangs in our school that like to call themselves ''The Cowboys'' and ''The Indians''. The Cowboys are generally white people who spit tobacco, loiter at our town's famous annual rodeo every May, and wear cowboy boots. The Indians are brown people who hang out together. There were several gang fights a few years ago, and two years ago, in my first year at high school, there was a CODE RED at lunch when a fight broke out, and the whole school (teachers included) had to hide under tables in the classroom nearest to us. The Cowboys go looking for a fight by making racial slurs, and usually The Indians take the bait by defending their culture in a physical manner.

On the surface it might not seem like it's there, but a lot of white people in my town are racists. I'm not one of them.

I...partially agree with this.

I just came from a school that was 80% black. I saw so much racism against white people from them for no good reason it wasn't even funny. I mean, one day in my English class we were continuing what seemed to be our semester of death, and the teacher brought in pictures of starving kids from Africa. I said I didn't care to see them, because seriously....who HASN'T seen a Christian Children's Fund commercial, and that's exactly what this thing was. Well, as soon as that came out of my mouth.....YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT STARVING BLACK KIDS!

...

Keep in mind I was like, 1 of 3 white kids in the entire class. I also saw/heard/heard about so much racism against the 10% of white kids in that school. Thank god for my World History teacher. She marched with Dr. King, and was NOT about to put up with ANY form of racism.

I just think that although racism isn't NEARLY the problem it was 40 years ago, it's still a big problem. I also think that racism would go WAY down if certain races didn't create so much of it out of nothing. Take the Don Imus issue for instance. He said something that had had NO racial implications whatsoever, and a huge portion of the black community was outraged. Why?:confused3

I think everyone needs to stop being so uptight. I think it's hypocritical when a black person bashes a white person for saying the N word, then calls their friend it. I think it's stupid when Latinos jump on someone for saying "bean", whether or not they were referring to them. I think it's old-fashioned when a white person is racist.

Tried to write that while being as uncontroversial as I can.

ITA Mike.

And that is really amazing that your teacher marches with Dr King!! :flower3:

I was in awe when she said that. Also, you should've seen her go off on the first kid that went, "man you're just hatin' on black kids".

Holy smokes.

In my town, there is roughly 11,000 people. 2% of the population is black. So I don't think we have a very big racism problem at my school since out of like 1,700 kids, only like 5 are black. The other 1,695 are white. This is just an estimate. I don't know about the hispanics.

Now where I used to live, it was about 50-50. Maybe 60-40 even. 60(black)...40(white). I would say that racism was a big deal there. The public schools were filled with gangs and white kids trying to be black. The catholic schools well, were a little better but not much. The inner city schools were bad but the subarb catholic schools were ok. There were constint fights around the city. In fact last spring, the city was given a curfew of I think 10pm. 4 fights broke out in the mall within a month. (they were between black teens and white teens trying to be black or calling black kids names) AND, either last year or the year before we had a big Nazi Uproar. :sad2:
