Thank you for the cheering guys. (Walking in a 5K run race, Yep I ain't right)

Everyone else racing, sleep well tonight, remember to eat a little something an hour or two before and go into it hydrated.

Good luck fellow racers. I am lucky (I think) this time and the race doesn't start until 7 PM. Its going to be hot though!! Hope my fellow Wishmates that had early races did GREAT and those that have races later this weekend good luck!!!

Well I survived the 5K. It was a tough one though. It had rained last night so it was really muggy, even though the temp was only about 75 it felt much hotter. My glasses stayed fogged the whole race. It was a rolling course so it seemed like I was always going up a hill.

My mile split was 11:20 and total time was right at 36 min. I was not last. This wasn't a 5K PR but it was a PR for this course. Did I mention I wasn't last.

This was a run race so since I was walking my goal was not to be last so I accomplished my goal.

There will be pics in a couple of days of me with people behind me, I wasn't last, just in case you forgot. The last runner came in 4 and a half min behind me.

Good luck to all the other racers.

Thanks for reading.

:dancer: Yay, Dave!! :dancer: You have redeemed yourself (in your eyes..we've always thought you were awesome!!) Don't you know the runners coming in behind you were just a little upset at being passed by a walker! They should still be proud..they finished!! Congratulations, Dave!!:thumbsup2 Anne

Congratulations Dave! Walking and not being last! Now that is something to speak of. I would be wogging and definitely behind you. But it's all good!

Glad you did what you set out to do!

Congrats, Dave! I know what you mean about the glasses being fogged up - I couldn't wear my sunglasses this morning b/c the same thing kept happening to me!

Congrats on the course PR Dave:cool1: :woohoo: !!

GO WISH TEAM:thumbsup2

Anxiously awaiting more race reports:cheer2:

:cheer2: DAVE :cheer2:

I'm getting ready for my first race ever - just a walk in the park!! No big deal!! :dance3:

My goal is to finish... in under one hour!! :)

Way to go, Dave! I've had plenty of walkers pass me by in races - while I'm running. :teeth:

eeyore45 - good luck on your first race! You can do it! :cheer2:

Ok well I had a whole race report written out and then for some dang reason the internet explorer closed out so I lost it all. UGH so for now I will just report that I finished the race and I did better then last race a month ago. My time is unofficial since the results were only posted through the 28 minute people and my time (I looked when going over the finish line) was 34:4(something) not exactly sure of the seconds but I know it was 40 something. I sprinted to the finish line so I could make it in under 35. This time was 2 minutes quicker than my last race a month ago. Hopefully the official times will be posted tomorrow and I will submit a full report. The pictures should be online in a few days (I hope) and I am hoping the photographer got a good shot of me - I saw him taking the pictures and there wasn't anyone in front of me to block me from the camera - hopefully there are people behind me so I don't look like I am DLF - which I knew I wouldn't be (which in and of itself is a GREAT feeling!!! But I always repeat the motto of the Wish team - DLF is better than DNS!!!!

Great job on your 5k WWDave You have an amazing pace for walking!! Congrats on getting a course PR and that you made your goal of not being DLF - let me tell you there were plenty of people who were still coming in past 50 minutes.

Good luck tomorrow Kim and Sandy :cheer2:

Dave - Congrats on the course PR!:thumbsup2 :cool1:

Sandy - By the time you read this post, you will have finished your first race. I'm sure you did great, and most definately it was done in under an hour! Here's to many more and new PR's!

Kim - Hope you did great on your 10K

Tricia - Great time on your race. Seeing this time was faster than last month, was this a PR for you?

Hope Cindy and Kevin's races went well too.

I woke up yesterday morning to a beautiful midwestern summer day. It was about 68 deg with little humidity. Race time temp was about 72 deg. A lot better than last years when it was the second hottest on record (with record number of runners needing medical attention on the course). The plan was for my DW (DJBounce) to walk/run her pace, while I was going to run the whole course with my sister, who was in town for the weekend from Des Moines (about 3 hrs from Davenport). I have run this course before during the Bix at 6 training runs, once, and I was really hoping it wasn't a fluke. I am a new runner (since Feb of this year) and the Bix 7 can be a challenging course, especially if your not ready for the hills. Here is a link to show the route, but it doesn't show elevation:
http://www.qctimes.com/special/bix/map/
At the start of the race 15,002 people were lined up and ready to go. The starting gun went off and off we went, shuffling, then running across the starting line and up Brady Street Hill. My sister and I just took it easy going up the hill, trying to weave around people while not getting separated, or in the way of faster runners. At the top of the hill is a long slow descent along Kirkwood Blvd. The atmosphere around the Bix 7 race and weekend festivites is like a big party. There are people lined up along the whole route, cheering, yelling, making alot of noise. There are bands playing, and like the WDW Marathon and Half Marathon, there is a choir singing (although, not near the end). Once we get down to the bottom of Kirkwood, we head up Jersey Ridge to McClellan Blvd and a shorter, but steeper hill. Once over the hill, it downhill again until the turnaround with a nice view of the Mississippi River. My sister decided to go ahead and walk awhile, as she admitted she wasn't as prepared as she should have been. So I ran off ahead on my own. I head up the hill, back down and start the long slow ascent back up Kirkwood. This part was the tough part. I just kept my mind off the hill and kept thinking about Going Goofy in '09, and how much of a mental game that will be. Soon enough, I was back on level ground and I knew it was all level or downhill from here, I knew I made it. Back down Brady Street to 3rd and the finish line. With about a quarter of a mile left I kicked in what I had left in the tank and crossed the finish line at 1hr 15min 7 sec. A PR as my training run was 1:21:10. The post race party is huge! There is a ton of food and drink to choose from. I watched out for and found my sister, who as it turns out only walked for a few minutes and finished at 1hr 20 min, and my DW Darcey who had a PR of 1 hr 29 min 38 sec. Then it was off to the car to change and head to the Street Fest to "rehydrate" with help from the folks at Anheuser-Busch! What a party!

Great job, Andrew!! You are well on your way for Goofy '09!!

I'm a RACER!!! :woohoo:

My son's fiance (from now on refered to as fdil - ie future daughter in law) invited me to stay over her apartment in Chicago - then we'd get up at 6 and head to Montrose Harbor at 6:15 for a race begin time of 7:30...

Heading down Lake Shore Drive, there were a line of cars with the same goal in mind!! 45 min of looking for parking - score!! 7:20 we got our chips, tied them on, then headed to the start time - UH OH, my ipod was left on, so no music to gage my pace!! Maybe around 3500 women were in line - lots of info blaring at us, then the start of the Star Spangled Banner... BAM - off to do the running shuffle...

First corner, I realize my heart was beating too fast, my knee was braced with a leg wrap - compression Walgreens (last week I wrenched it, it feels like it is going to give out, and when I bend it I can feel the creaking!!) but feeling fine - I think I was going to fast - my breath was not even... so we decided to walk... till I caught my breath and then started up again... I was just not sure if I was at my pace - then noticing all the head bobbing, and the pavement curving... I felt the vertigo creeping in!! Get a grip - fdil kept up the chatter - I wanted to smack her - I knew I was holding her back - just go , go on ahead - "NO no, I want to coach you thru this" she truly was just saying inspiring things, and asking if I was breathing deep out the nose or some such comments... asking if I could make it to the 1 mile mark before we walked a bit... and I hit that first mile mark at 15:45 (15 min, that's ok, I knew I was going to fast!!)

Around 2 miles they were handing out water... fdil felt I had to grab a water - practice for Disney, get a feel for what its like to drink water.... OK fine but I'm not going to drink all of it!! :rotfl2: This is not hard, this is just hot... no breeze - the Lake (Michigan) was now to the left of us - now bikers think they can come at me - hey I know I'm an easy target, but I'm running a race dagnabit - do I need to knock you off your bike??? (j/k but I was thinking it!!)

I passed a few - kept my stride, I think fdil was trying to push me to the last half mile - she asks me if I want to sprint... and something about getting a tattoo??? I really should pay attention - ah there is the 10 K go left - GO fdil, GO LEFT... no, she wants to stay with me... :sad2: Finally she has to go her way, and I'm told just 200 feet, or yards... well I could NOT see no stinking finish line, so it may as well be 200 miles!! I cant sprint it, and now I was passed by the mother daughter duo (daughter was maybe 7 or 8 years old mind you!!)

I noticed the photographers, but they were more interested in the 10K racers, some people said slower runners to the left - then 5K'ers PLEASE MOVE TO YOUR RIGHT!! well dagnabit make up your minds! I'll stay right in the middle on the yellow line, thank you very much!!! oh, another photographer, shall I take off my cool new sunglasses?? nah better not - dont want to be to annoying!! ANd there at the finish line was a volunteer with a Monster Inc hat - too funny!! BEEP _ BEEP I'm done, it was either at 46 min and 8 sec or 48 min and 6 sec...

My legs felt like mush, my head was sweaty, my arms were shaking... and they wanted me to stop and grab the chip off my shoe!! :sad2: I took the pretty carnation they were handing out, along with a bottle of water, and walked around to wait for fdil to cross - and out pops dh and dd - they made it after all!!
