Thank you for your thoughts and well-WISHes! It's going to be a hot one; I'll post a report when I can. :)

Yes, thank you all very much for the well-wishes.

DH is doing a 40-mile ride in the Tour de Oink. I signed up for it but I'm still sore from a bike wreck from a few weeks ago. I'm going to do the easier 14 miler instead. I don't want to mess up my marathon training that I haven't quite started on yet. :rolleyes1

I'll report back sometime tomorrow afternoon. DH is busy now getting all of his drinks, lotions, potions, clothes and other goodies together. I guess I better get crackin'.

Good luck with the 10K, Steve!

Hello WISH Team!

My race today was a hot one; 80 degrees and HUUUUMID! I have never drank so much water prior to race, and I still had to grab all the water I could at each station along the course.

Some race background: the Beach to Beacon was founded and is hosted by Maine native and 1984 Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson. Joan can attract quite a field; many of the world's elite participate: top runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Ukraine. Top American road racer Meb Keflezighi, 2004 Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist was here this year. All of them move aside amicably as I take my rightful place alongside them at the start. ;)

It's a neat race; 46 states and 20 countries were represented among the 5,500 runners. The race starts near a beach in Cape Elizabeth, Maine and finishes at the Portland Head Light lighthouse. (Of course, to get to the lighthouse you are pretty much going uphill from mile 4 to the finish.)

I finished in 55:09 (by my watch). My splits were: (1) 8:30; (2) 8:51; (3) 8:45; (4) 8:56; (5) 9:00; (6) 9:28. I am happy with my time and this was my first race since knee surgery 5 months ago.

Most importantly: this was my first race as a WISH Team member. And I have to tell you all, I really and truly felt a presence as I ran today. The humidity really slammed me after 3 miles; I wanted to stop and walk, but I kept thinking of the well-wishes I received on this board and it kept me going! I absolutely know I will need the support of our WISH Team come next January at Walt Disney World. During my run today I kept thinking of how great it will be to meet many of you, offer my fullest support, and receive support in return next January!

Take Care All!

Great report, Steve! Your times are awesome! Especially after knee surgery just a few months ago. :worship:

I participated in the the Tour de Oink which is a small part of a larger festival called the Great Arkansas Pig Out (my kind of event ;) ). The day began with a 5K followed by the Tour de Oink (14 or 40 miles). I thought about doing both the 5K and the ride but I'm still pretty sore after a bike crash and I didn't want to take a chance of not being able to complete the ride. And, it was very hot and HUUUUUMMMMMMIIIIDDDDD here as well.

The 14-miler began with a couple of challenging hills (for me, anyway) and the rest was relatively flat with a few minor rolling hills along the way. The 40-mile course had a lot more hills. I'm glad I didn't attempt that one today.

I didn't try to push myself too hard but I did ride at a fairly brisk pace for me. I completed the course in a little less than an hour. DH, Steve, completed his 40-miler in 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Although this is a small event (about 150 riders), it was a nice event. The volunteers were very friendly and supportive. I hope to do the 40-miler next year. :)

Excellent race Susie! (and for your DH as well!)

I'm glad you kept some of the humidity for yourself today! :) I have only just begun to get into biking myself (to help save my knees), but I really enjoy it; I'm jealous, as we don't have many biking events to enter in my area. I'm really counting on my biking to serve as my cross training and add to my cardiovascular fitness as I prepare for Disney next January.

It sounds as if you had a great event today (all humidity aside). Again, great effort! Happy training to you! :goodvibes

Steve good for you! I'm glad you "felt" the power! Good pace and I'm glad you are happy.

Susie, sorry about your previous injury. Smart for keeping at it but in a lower key. Congrats to you and DH too!

SilverSteve & Susie - Congratulations! You represented the WISH team very well this weekend.

Way to go Steve and Susie!!:cool1:

Steve, stick with this group and we'll be with you all the way through Marathon Weekend and beyond. It is just an unbelieveable feeling to see those WISH shirts during the race..in the race and on the sidelines cheering! :goodvibes Anne

Congratulations Steve and Susie! Steve - it is an amazing feeling knowing you're part of a bigger team, even if they're not physically with you. Susie - I think you made a wise decision to go with the 14 miles, but good for you for doing that one.

Jackie
