Go WISH team!!! Everyone that has an event on 4th of July GOOD LUCK!!! And Happy 4th to everyone!!

I hope the weather is cooperative for all our Independence Day race participants! It is supposed to be cool here, though it may also be raining. Just looking forward to getting out there on a course I've done twice before, and going for a PR.

Good luck, WISH team!

Good Luck to all our WISH team members racing on the 4th!!!

Can't wait to hear all the reports!

Just got back from my 5 mile race this morning. Temps are in the lower 70's here with about 50% humidity. Start time was 8:00. DH was running it with me, but I met up with one of my buddies from the Galloway group. We had agreed to do our 3R/1W intervals; I knew DH would run his pace and leave me behind. I think there were about 500 people registered for the 5 mile race.

We kept to our intervals and were on pace at every mile marker for 12:00 miles, which is what our pace group is training for. I was amazed to actually try it in a race and see it work! My goal was to finish in under an hour - my actual time was 1:00:14! I could have made the hour if I hadn't waited for Gina - I finally left her with only a couple of minutes left and sprinted to the finish. I was still feeling really strong, so I probably should have gone out earlier. Either way, it was a PR, since I've never done a 5 mile before!

There were 2 kids taking the chips at the finish - as Gina crossed he yelled "last runner," and I could have slapped him, but fortunately his dad reprimanded him and told him not to say that. We weren't the last runners either, which made me even madder! But as Gina pointed out, more people cheer for you at the end anyway, so we didn't care that we were at the back of the pack. We were really happy with our pace, so that's all that mattered.

Good luck to everyone else racing!

Jackie

Congratulations, Jackie, on your PR and your very successful execution of your Galloway training. I have been sidelined from Raleigh's Galloway group for a couple of weeks at least. Awaiting some tests to see what treatment options to pursue and when I can get back to training. <sigh>

Good luck to everyone else racing!

CONGRATULATIONS, JACKIE!!

12 minute miles?? WOW!! You are doing GREAT!! Keep it up!! :cool1: Anne

Just back from my 5K, which didn't start until 11:00 and it was hot. I made the bad decision to run the first mile and then start my w3/r2 intervals. I made it to the end, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had stayed with the intervals from the beginning. My Garmin says that I finished in 35:15 and I was so excited to beat my 40:00 goal. Then I realized that according to the Garmin, I only went 2.99 miles. So, I guess I didn't really meet my goal. I can't figure out why the route was so short! What a bummer.

Congratulations, Jackie!

Wendy -- sending you pixiedust: and :goodvibes

Well, we've been done our 5k since early, but went shopping for cruise stuff and for a new porch dining set.

I still can't get to that sub-40:00 5k finish, though this would have been a great day to do it -- it was only around 70 degrees when we started, though it had rained all night and it was very humid.

I've done this race the past two years
2005 -- 50:12 (pace 16:09)
2006 -- 47:19 (pace 15:16)
2007 -- 41:19 (pace 13:18)

mile 1 --12:51 (best 9:38)
mile 2 -- 13:30 (best 9:22)
mile 3 -- 13:33 (best 10:19)
.12 miles -- pace 11:59
Finish time according to my Garmin -- 41:19 (pace 13:18)

It's good to see improvement. Even if I'm not meeting my ultimate goal, I'm glad to see the change in one year.

WTG Jackie and Meghan!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Okay, so here's my lame-o race report.

This am we left the house at 6:30am to head to the start of The Firecracker 5K, which is probably one of the longest running races in Arkansas. The start of the race was at 7:30, and the heat wasn't too bad--but then again we were standing in the shade. This course is 90% downhill, so great to shoot for PRs. And they don't give out age division awards, so as to make this a race for everyone, regardless of pace. The race used to finish inside the stadium here in Little Rock, but when they pulled up the astroturf and laid real grass, that was no more. So now the race has an akward start to make up for hte lost distance at the end.

1st mile: 7:03:05--probably should've started closer to the front as it was like the running of the bulls at the start. You start down a hill and then make a sharp left turn, which was bad--I was just glad to see no one got trampled. After a half mile, the crowd thinned out

2nd mile: 6:55:73--did I mention this course was downhill???;) Gotta love a mile downhill--had to stop to tie my shoe, I guess I was so speedy my laces came undone!:rotfl:

3rd mile: 7:52:11--okay so here is where the 10% uphill comes into play. You round the corner and it's about a 2-3/10th mile climb--not nice at the end. There was a young boy--probably 10 or so, who was off to the side and looked like he was going to be sick. He said he was okay and to keep going. This was also the first point of the race where we were in full sun--ugh! No wonder we started so early!

Last tenth (or according to my Garmin 0.2)-1:02:50 Again coasting downhill!

Finishing time: 22:53:banana:  New PR for me! I even passed the two leaders from the Running clinic I was a part of this spring. I got a fun little firecracker trophy for being in the top 100 women. DH finished about a minute ahead of me, not a PR for him, but still a great run!

Now it's time to rest, relax, and enjoy the rest of the holiday. Already got my shopping therapy in for the day--MelR, had to hit Lewis and Clark, since they were just down from the finish.:thumbsup2 Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Jackie - great race and time. Good going!

Wendy – I hope it’s nothing too serious. Sending some :wizard: your way

Meghan – I always want to start off running like that but I have to be careful or I will tire out quickly. Also, even though your Garmin said 2.99 miles, I’m sure you still beat your goal of 40 minutes. Way to go!

Cam – you just keep getting better!!! Awesome! Great pace!

Stephanie – no wonder I didn’t see you run by me at the LR marathon. You were just one big blur – speed of lightening. Your pace is awesome – I don’t care if it was downhill. Steve and I were thinking about doing this race but we both wiped out on our bikes last week and are still pretty banged up right now. Sounds like you had a good time. We will definitely need to do this next year.

Cam--we must've posted at the same time, cuz I didn't see your race report until now--under 40:00 or not, you are smokin' lady! Congrats!:yay:
