Good luck to everyone this weekend. I hope your weather cooperates and you all have fun.

I'm hoping it won't already be 100 degrees when my 10K starts in the morning. I wanted to do the 1/2 marathon for my event but it starts at 12:00 in the afternoon when it will be 110 out, hence the "running with the devil" race name.

 :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2: Go Team, Go Team, The WISH Team ROCKS!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1:

Yea, there is someone in my area doing a race!! Go Tricia!!

My bike event was cancelled due to bad weather. :( Hopefully, it will be re-scheduled in a few weeks.

Hope everyone else's events went well!

Susie, sorry about the cancellation. WISHing the reschedule date works for you.

Looking forward to hearing good news. Go WISH Team!

I ran the Potomac River Running Twilight Festival Four Miler in Ashburn, VA last night. (Sorry I never added it to the list, this was somewhat of a last minute decision).

Last night was not exactly the best weather for a race. When we left for the race, it said it was 90, feels like 95. It was seriously HOT. The race started at 6:30 and it had not cooled down at all.

I was trying to decide on a strategy for the race. My 5k PR pace (from the Minnie) is 7:59 min/mile. So, under ideal conditions, I should be able to run a 4 miler at close to 8 min/miles. Obviously, these were not ideal conditions.
I decided to run the first mile at 8:30 and then see how I felt. I did it in 8:34 and I felt terrible, so I decided to back off the pace a bit. I just didn't see any reason to push myself too hard. The next 2 miles came in at 9:09 and 9:11. Then during the final mile, my heart rate got up to 204 :scared1: and I decided I need to walk for a few seconds. I ended up taking 2 more very short walk breaks as my HR got over 200 (I'm pretty sure that is the highest I have ever seen it get). I still managed to finish the last mile in close to 10 minutes (I forgot to stop my watch). They haven't posted the official results but my final time is 36 minutes and some seconds (probably in the 50s).

After the race, I drank a lot of water and Gatorade. They had the typical post race food (bagels, muffins, cookies, breakfast bars). Also included was a BBQ sandwich and some chips from Red, Hot, and Blue (local BBQ chain) and a free beer. There was also live music and some activities for kids. It was a pretty nice after race party. As we were finishing up our beers, a storm started to move in really quickly. The winds began blowing like crazy and all the tents they had set up started blowing out of the ground. It was a crazy scene watching people try to hold things down as they were blowing everywhere. We decided that then would be a good time to leave.

Despite the heat, it was an enjoyable experience.

We walked the Beanie Baby 5K in Westmont on Sunday. Held at Ty Warner Park - we didn't even know it existed but is a nice spot.

Was raining when we left the house (3rd Sunday event in a row) but cleared just shortly after arriving. They delayed the start by 10 minutes -not bad at all.
Small field - just over 300 people. Lots of volunteers and police presence to handle traffic.

We took a friend along with us - her first 5K - so decided I'd just walk casually with her. Patrick's knee has been bothering him for little over a week so he decided no need for a PR and walked with us. Walked out the park, down one fairly busy street (right lane blocked for us and LOTS of police cars) then thru a nice residential area and once around the park. They had a large group of volunteers near and at the finish to cheer everyone on. Was nice and we'll definitely add it to our schedule for next year.

They did tell me to go ahead and take off the last mile and I actually managed a 13.43. First time for me to be sub 14 the whole mile! They jogged to catch up with me so we all came across the line together.

Oh, got tech shirt, food and isn't this just the cutest thing....

Yep, everyone got one.

All in all a good time.

Liz: Nice report and I just love the TY Flamingo!!

Sorry I am running late on my race report - I didn't do much on Sunday and then yesterday I was super busy at work. So here it is...

I have been doing this running this for a year now so I am starting to enter races now that I ran last year. I don't know if that is the reason why I was so nervous before this last 5k. Last year it was my first "official" 5k and this year I wanted to at least make sure I finished better then I did last year (36:46) so maybe that contributed to my nervousness - I seriously did not want to be nervous (I was less nervous before the 15k Minnie then I have been for the last 2 local 5k's) I guess you can say I had a wierd night of sleep the night before. I woke up at midnight thinking it was time to wake up to get ready (5AM) then I woke up a few more times and then had a REALLY wierd dream about being late for race and no one would take me there and then I missed it!!

As far as the real race - I woke up as soon as my alarm went off and got up and got dressed, made my coffee, got my shoes on and got on the TM to warm up - I did .1 @ 3mph, .2 @ 4mph, .3 @ 5mph and then the last .4 @ 4mph to make 1 mile total. (I normally don't do very much warming up before a race so I figured I would try something new) We got there by 6:30 just like I planned. Got my shirt and my chip for my shoe, brought the shirt to the truck and attached the chip on the shoe and made it back to the start line in time. We forgot the camera for this race (but luckily there was a photographer there and I did see my pic this morning.) I ended up starting right next to this lady I used to work with (she used to work here years ago) her husband is a physical trainer and he runs (really fast too!!) so she enters races too - she says she hates to run though. Then the lady who sung the national anthem had a horrible accent and messed up on a bunch of words (and Brian said she had it written down) - so we were off - I knew that the race didn't start exactly at 7AM (it was more like 7:04) but when I checked my phone for a time check through the whole race I kept basing it off starting at 7AM. I (finally) got to the 1st mile mark and the clock (this race had clocks at each mile) said just over 10 minutes - I couldn't believe it because I am NOT that fast. Then I sort of slowed down from there but still I tried pushing myself - by time I got to the 2nd mile mark clock it said 22 minutes and something seconds but then in the 3rd mile I felt like I had to walk alot because I kept getting nauseous when I would run for too long - so I ended up walking right before and after I went past the 3rd mile mark - up ahead I could see the finish line and the time clock had just turned to 33 minutes something - so I put it in high gear and booked it in to the finish - ended up a finishing time of 34:21 (11:04 minute per mile pace) so I bettered my time by 2 minutes and 22 seconds - I think I saw that 422 finished the race and I was 322 - so I finished better than 100 other people!!

All in all I am pleased with my finish (I actually had to ask my DH if he thought the timers weren't working properly because I didn't think it was possible to do it in that time with as much as I felt I walked!! LOL) Funny how our minds play tricks with us.

I am now signed up for another 5k in the end of this month in West Palm Beach and I am going to join my running club's individuallized marathon training program as I am just starting on my 30 week marathon training for January.

Tricia: Nice report and great time!! That's great.
What race are you doing in West Palm??

-Tracy
