Race Report!

I ran an 8K race this morning in Greenbelt National Park in MD (all I can say about the scenery is that there were lots of trees :rotfl: - I really should start paying more attention to what I am running past). This was somewhat of a last minute decision - we registered at the race! I've never done that before. Usually I've know what races I'm going to do months ahead of time, even for 5ks. But, DH and I decided that, rather than do speedwork during the week, we wold run a race this weekend.

I'm happy I did the race, but it was really hard. It was really, really hilly, which is fine and I knew beforehand, but the hardest part for me was the weather. It was about 70 degrees and probably 80% (or more) humidity. Its hard to believe that just 2 weeks ago (when I ran the National Half Marathon) the wind chill was in the high 20s. It think the heat and humidity were really a shock to my body; I was struggling from a half mile into the race. (I ran outside all winter, so I'm not even used to the heat of indoor running) I guess today was a preview of what I have to look forward to at the Minnie! According to my watch I ran it in 44:57; I'm guessing my official time is a few seconds faster. I did manage to win my age group, which is kind of cool (it was my first age group award - just a certificate), not sure exactly how many people were in my age group, but at least 2 others because there was a second and third place  (I'd be surprised if there were many more than that).

Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend!

Wow Cindy, a fun race and a first place in your age group.:cheer2: Life is good.

Thank you for sharing. That was my kind of race, hills and heat. I'm so jealous, it was a high of 48 here to day with strong winds.

Cheering Panda:hippie:

Cindy,

Congratulations!! That was a great pace and so awesome that you won 1st place in your group!! Way to go!!!

Cindy, Buzz Buddy!! :woohoo: FANTASTIC!!! A first place anywhere is still a FIRST PLACE!!! I'm just amazed...an "on the spur of the moment" AND hills EVENT...:worship:
CONGRATULATIONS!!
