Race Reports/Encouragement/Kudos February 9th and 10th

WOW!!!! You really DID get to fly, Matt!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Hey, I waited until almost 11 before I asked where you were! :rotfl: Even took into account the drive back!! ;) You did an excellent job in describing the course. I, for one, appreciate it. I'll not be doing THAT race any time soon. Looking forward to seeing your new bling!!

Hope Cheryl is doing well with her knee PT!! :goodvibes

Matt - I felt like I needed an ice bath after reading your report. :lmao: Good job on whipping those hills. Great time! Where are those pics? :teeth:

Allie - great job on the 2-miler!

Shan - congrats to your DH for a great run despite the fall. I'll bet he's a little sore today. Ouch!

I was/am still feeling the effects of my bout with pneumonia, so I decided to stay home. But given the beautiful weather we're having this weekend, now I wish I wouldn't have phoned it in.
:lmao: Hope you start to feel better soon.

Well, I found out some disappointing news today. I didn't come in second in my age/gender division after all even though I won the trophy. There were 6 ladies in my age group. I came in 5th. I beat the sixth lady by 2 seconds (due to a last minute sprint). It seems that the first three ladies won trophies for something else (all were very speedy). Since they already won trophies, that meant the remaining three of us got the age/gender division trophies. It kind of burst my bubble when I saw the results but I still can't complain. I won a swedish massage! :teeth:

Congratulations WISH Team! Great job.

Vic, I do WISH you are feeling back on track soon.

Susie -- Hardware is hardware. Be proud -- You earned it by being "out there" rather than in bed (and a lot faster than me, but we won't go there). And I want Steve to teach me how to walk -- 12:45!!!!!!!!!!

Matt -- Love your race reports! I'm with Anne. I like rolling hills (for a change) but I don't think even a Mecades logo could get me out there. Now the free gumbo 8K may be calling me some day.

Allie/Sandi -- I'm proud to call you my teammate! Whoooooohoooooo!

Shan -- Still think one of my favorite shirts is from a trail race, though I rarely wear it. Emblazoned across the back is "Road racing is for wimps" because the trail crew I've encountered thinks falling and getting "skint up" (de-skinned actually) is a requirement. Those hardcore trail runners are crazy! :scared:

Vic -- We still love you.

Wendy, ya I think they are crazy, too. :lmao:
I think DH actually likes trail running more than on the road. I got him a gift certificate for our anniversary yesterday for a new pair of trail shoes! :scared: Turns out he hurt his shoulder more than his knee. I don't think I'll talk him into running with me today...:rotfl:

BTW, his shirt was awesome! I keep meaning to google the company that made them... Long sleeve wicking and it feels sooo soft!

Sorry I didn't post my race report here - been so busy I just posted to the Triple D's post so I am cutting and pasting it here. Obviously in my report where I say this AM it really means Sunday morning.

Well I did a 5k race this AM and it wasn't pretty. I cursed myself through out the whole race (am I crazy - my legs are dying after less than a mile and I signed up for a dang marathon!!!!!) My legs bothered me really bad - it would feel worse when I would stop and walk since I have a fast pace walk. All in all I guess I should be happy that I finished and that I wasn't last - I was about 30 from last. 2nd to last in my age group. Managed a time of 35:16

I do find that once I get past 3 miles my legs seem to feel better so maybe I need to start running prior to my races (I am sure I will once I get my milage back up to more than 3 miles!!! UGH) It was tough today but I am proud that I finished. And now am sitting here with my new race shirt (I am starting o get quite a collection) Unfortunately my personal photographer (i.e. my DH) didn't take very good pictures (I forgot it was on the wrong setting and he doesn't check that!!) so I am hoping the pictures will be online soon from the club (my new running club was the one's who put on the race) The race was to benefit a disabled veteran - they are presenting him with a Segway.

Coincidently enough the name of the race was the Wishing Well 5k (named after an Irish pub the club meets at after their Wed. night runs) but of course it made me think of my WISH team!!

ETA - forgot to say Congrats to my team mates that had races/runs this weekend. Everyone did great - and way to go Matt - 2 races in one weekend and not even near each other - and great pace times.

I did the Half at the Hamptons on Sunday...here are a few highlights, and a few low ones too...

Registration was so easy, they had everyone’s name who had pre-registered on the wall when you came in, and it had your bib/chip number there, so all you had to do was find your table, they were set up in a big U shape and the signs were up high, so it was really easy...if you were one of the 1st hundred (I think) to register you got a free pair of shoes, and your voucher for them was attached to your bib. After getting your bib/chip, you just moved around the U to get your shirt (I really like it, it's bright blue and yellow, but I heard one woman say they were "absolutely hideous") and goodie bag (they had clif shots in Margarita flavor!) and then there was a small table set up where you could buy gels, hats and gloves, and some shirts.

It started at 10:30 for walkers and 11 for runners. There were 1070 registered, about 50+ were walkers. They had pacers so you knew where to line up ('course I didn’t have trouble finding the end...but?), played the National Anthem and we were off!

It started out as 32 degrees and sunny. This caused any snow in the roads to become slushy (=wet feet) Remember, I am slow. By mile 4, it was snowing. Hard (=wet top). By mile 7 it was raining. Hard (=wet everything else) and...by mile 9 it was sleeting. Painful needles of ice. The last 5 miles of the race went along the water. With winds that I heard got up to 40 mph. I believe it. And the waves crashing against the rocks made sure if there was any part of you dry, it was now wet too.

At the end, there was beer. Lots and lots of beer. And inaugural medals, with ribbons that match the shirts (blue and yellow)

Overall, I think it was a good race, the course was pretty flat, the weather could have been better, but?

OK, I was wrong. Not only did I talk him into running today, but he took ME on a trail run. And I'll just say - I HATE TRAIL RUNS!!! :lmao: I cursed more on that run than I did the past ten years. I don't know how they don't all kill themselves.
