Rabbit Damage

Now that the snow drifts have melted, I am able to see that the rabbit(s) that has been hopping around my garden leaving tracks in the snow and lots of droppings, had quite a meal off the bark of my Japanese Hakura, Forsythia and climbing roses, thorns and all! I hope they recover from the damage. I've never had this happen before.

Next winter I'll have to put chicken wire around them if rabbits have moved into area.

I guess, next, they'll be going for all the tender shoots of my bulbs and perennials.

Telling you it's time for your trip!LOL

Eeeck! If you have time before you leave you might want to chicken wire your entire garden. :teeth:

We used to have a rabbit problem...I made rounds of chicken wire and placed them around the tender plants...like tulip buds...grrrr.

But the coyotes have taken care of the rabbit problems.

LOL, Amid. Well, I once saw a skunk walking down our street....I wonder how rabbits feel about them? ;)

The last thing I thought I'd have to deal with, is rabbits (as cute as "Thumper" may be, Janet ;) ) just before our trip. I may still have some Critter Ridder to keep the cats and dogs away, maybe I'll try that in the short term. It's so mucky to be working in the garden right now.

My chicken iwre things are so easy.

Cut a piece of chicken wire...maybe 3 feet long...fold it in half so you have a long piece of doubled chicken wire. then connect the ends so it's a circle and place over delicate, yummy plants.

Bunnies are back here too. Little guys are eating up everything. I spotted a fox before dawn cruising around but he hasn't put a dent in the bunny population.

AC,I'm going to try your chicken wire design this week. Do you make a tent or a corral out of it?

It must be a regional thing.... I have lived here in rural NH for 10 years and spotted my first rabbit last month!! But we have plenty of deer to take their place!................P

The rabbits devoured my garden up here in Canada too - never had them before. I bought something called "Critter Ridder" and it seems to have done the trick. It's come combination of pellet-type stuff that you sprinkle around the garden - works for skunks and raccoons too!
