R & R Coaster Will I survive?

I notice as I get older, I don't handle the roller coasters as well as I used to. Adored dueling dragons at IOA, Hated the Hulk... loved R&R though.

Went on it last march, and once you get that first "bank" feeling, where you feel pressed down in your seat? Then I was fine. (as you go into a loop) The launch was crazy and yes! Keep your head back! The music is awesome! Just remember to breath. Seriously, deep breaths do help.

If you're a newbie to rollercoasters, I think I would start with expedition everest first. That is a good one!

I took the ultimate coaster chicken on it last trip. She loves Aerosmith and I convinced her to try. She loved it! I asked her for her advice to you and she said remember to breathe! She held her breath the first time! To note we rode 4 times that trip

I LOVE RNR coaster. It is an adrenaline rush, but in a different way than other coasters. It is all about the launch!

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

Duration: 1 min 22 sec

The launch is 0-57 in just under 3 seconds. Just about enough time for one good "wha-hoo!!" before you're upside down. It's completely contained inside a building at Disney, so you know it won't be *THAT* bad. We took my coaster-phobic friend on it and didn't tell her it went upside down until after she got off, and she had no clue that she had gone upside down at all. The launch isn't that bad, it's similar to when you "step on it" in your car, just a little faster.

This is a front row POV video of it with the lights on. It's a bit shaky since the guy is holding the camera in his hand (it's not a GoPro attached to his chest), but you still get the idea of how it goes. Or this one, which is an RCT3 designed one "filmed" with the "lights on", it's smoother of course, because it's a computer simulation.

This is not at all uncommon. Some studies attribute this to the fact that as infants and small children, we are carried around, pushed in strollers, rocked, bounced, etc. Then as we get a bit older we move to the back seats of the cars and cruise around without being able to see out the window very well. Quite simply, when we are young, we adjust very well to herky-jerky motion. As we get older we sit in the front seat of cars and stare straight ahead. As time goes on, we lose our ability to handle uneven motion. I don't know the validity of any of this, but on its face, it makes sense.

RnRC is a very smooth, easy ride. It's my favorite coaster at WDW. Plus, I like the overhead harness because I like having the handles to hold onto. Am I weird? Probably, but I'm OK with that.

In the end, you will never know if you can truly handle it until you actually ride it yourself. If it does make you sick, I would suggest staying away from other coasters the rest of your trip. Even if it is one you have never had issues on before. The day after I got sick on RnRc, my DH and I rode Everest. The last time I rode it, it didn't bother me at all (which totally shocked me). This time, I was throwing up before we got off the ride. The super nice ladies in the AK First Aid said that once you get motion sick, you are more likely to get motion sick, even on rides that previously gave you no problem.

Been on every ride at DW many times -waited until last year to do Everest, and now it's one of my favorites. Waited until this year to do RR, and I doubt if I will ever do it again. I'm 55+ - don't know if that makes a difference, but I hated the launch - felt like I couldn't breath. Did I survive - yes. Did it shorten my lifespan - yet to be determined. :)

The first time we rode it, I noticed that picture is when you take off. I thought "great I can finally get a coaster pic of me smiling".....yeah my picture was my screaming a not nice word and my kids all laughing! My eyes stayed closed the whole time *and every other time) singing along with Aerosmith while my 8 yr old sat next to me asking if I was ok and telling me what was coming up. I rode it 3 times in a row and then bailed on the kids. They rode 5 more times that afternoon. And I didn't even know that w went upside down until dh came home and looked it up since he couldn't tell for sure if we had.

Make out a will, bring a copy with you, tell your relatives that you love them, and then hope for the best....

Lol.

Only kidding. As others have stated, its a very smooth coaster which makes it much better than a slower back breaker. I probably wouldn't ride most of the coasters at Cedar Point, but I have no problemo with Rock N Roller Coaster or Expedition Everest at Disney World.

Also wanted to add, my dad is 65, in all my living years he has never, not once, ridden any kind of ride. At the Magic Kingdom in Sept, I was determined to get him on something. Decided to start with BTMRR thinking it would be easy for him. I asked him as we were walking towards it if he was going to ride. He said, well I may die. I said well then the family can come to Disney for free forever. He said well let's make that happen. After that ride, he rode EVERYTHING with us including RnR. Now several times he did mention having to strangle me, but he really loved it all.

Rode it once and felt like I had whiplash. Had a headache for the rest of the day too. It's one ride I won't do again, and I like coasters.

So glad i came across this. I'll definitely give this a try.

But what about my son who has eyeglasses? Should we worry about his glasses falling off? He's never ridden a coaster with loops and that "launch" before.

More comparisons to EE? I hate the backwards curve and will not repeat that.

aging might be my problem, as i used to love EE but where the backwards dip used to be fun, now it just makes me uncomfortable.

RnRC is still my favorite, though.

I would put the, in your purse or bag just in case

One of the best rides on property! Love the launch directly into inversion loop. A great adrenaline rush!
