Hi all

I know most of you that are on facebook have already seen my news on there, but for those that are not, Im heartbroken to tell you that my darling little Yorkie Spike had to be put to sleep this morning, after a short illness.

I have posted many of his adventures here over the years, about his trip to London and the day he escape whilst seeing off a few burglers.

I know I have done the right thing, but right now, Im devestated, I had him nearly 19 years and he was such a big part of my life.

I hope the pain gets easier but I will never ever forget him.

This is a picture of him about 4 years ago:

R.I.P my darling boy xx

RIP Spike  At least he is at peace now and you will always have your memories and photos to keep him alive in your heart

So sorry to hear about Spike, Sue:hug: I know what you are going through as we had to put our 15 year old Westie down last year, its always a hard decision but deep down its the right thing to do to stop an animal suffering.

It takes a while but it does get easier, think of all the good things about him:hug:

So sorry to hear this Sue  thinking of you

So sorry for you, I feel ill just thinking about something happening to my Jack Russell. Hugs to you and Vicki

Oh Sue and Vikki, I'm so sorry to hear about Spike, sending you both lots of hugs.....:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

When i read this thread i was nearly crying. My springer spaniel died 3 years ago aged 16 years young...there is still not a day that i dont think about him. I know exactly how you are feeling right now and my thoughts are with you.

2 years ago, when we went to Florida, we took a photo of him on a cd, and had a glass etching made at Epcot. When we went to pick it up i started crying!!! It is so beautiful and has pride of place in our front room.

:hug::hug:

Awwww, thinking of you all Sue. I'll never forget the day my Mum took my first ever King Charles to be put to sleep, it's one horrible feeling  You know it's best for them in the long run, but never ever what you want to do :sad2:

So sorry Sue  it's one of the hardest things to do in life but also one of the kindest.

When I lost my Sasha, a friend sent me this poem and I hope you don't mind if I share it with you as it was (and still is) a great comfort.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and thoughts.

Im totally drained right now, Ive shed so many tears and keep looking round for him, and with my mind playing evil tricks on me, think I can still here him coming in from the garden through his flap in the door. I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be this hard, and hearing the lovely dog next door barking is breaking my heart:sad1::sad1:

As I said in my original post, I know in my heart I did the right thing for him, but that doesnt make it any easier right now, I had him since he was 12 weeks old and he has been through everything with me.

Im sorry to sound so sad, I know some would say he was just a pet, but he was much much more than that to me and Vicki.

Thank you all for listening and your lovey words, and Elaine, although that poem made me cry, your right it is a great comfort, thank you hon:hug:

Oh Elaine, that's beautiful! I am crying my eyes out here - but only because it's so lovely :goodvibes

And Sue, I'm so sorry to hear about Spike

And I know exactly what you are going through - we had to put my Scottie George to sleep at the end of last year. We'd had him for 15 years, and yes, I know this sounds daft, but after growing up with him, he felt almost like a brother. And after all these months, I still cant get used to it - every time I open the kitchen door I expect to feel him sitting right behind it (he used to sit on the warm pipes under the floor :))...

Anyhow Sue, I'm thinking about you and Vicki and am sending tonnes of hugs your way. Just remember you did the right thing

They are never just pets Sue, they are part of the family:hug:

I am so sorry Sue

As people who are new to dog owning we are only just starting to realise how much a huge part of our family Mason is, and we can't begin to contemplate what life would be like without him, or how we managed before he came along.

Thinking of you
