Maybe its a silly question, but in early December is the weather nice enough to have a Savanah view and ACTUALLY SEE animals this time of year? ( I am from Chicago area and u know how OUR weather is in December! HA HA!! ) If I remember someone said you can possibly still swim? Do they keep the pools open ALL year? thank you for any help u can provide, as this will be my very FIRST ever "Christmas" trip to Disney!! :Pinkbounc

I've been to WDW early December and have experienced highs in the 80's. On the other hand, it can get cold - 40's and 50's, especially at night.

The animals will be out and it should be warm during the day. As for swimming, the pools are heated and open year round. We have swam in December. Unless you hit an unusual cold spell, you should be able to swim during the day and possible in the evening, depending on what your definition of cold is.

We spent January 1-7 at the AKL last year and the animals were definatley out. Our room faced the Arusha savannah, Kudo trail and there were animals out at various times of the day. On the morning we went on the Sunrise Safari, it was only about 30 degrees. We were wearing winter coats, hats, gloves and a heavy blanket. Before we left for the safari, we met in the lounge just down from were you check in. We went outside and saw several giraffes very close up and this was 7:00am.

We had a variety of temps while we were at WDW. We were at the CR from Dec, 27th until we checked in on Jan.1. Most of the days were in the 50's in the am and up to 70's in the afternoon. The weather while we were at the AKL changed greatly from day to day and the animals were always out in every savannah.

Enjoy your trip, you will have an amazing time:D

We were there the beginning of December and the animals were all out even on days that it was freezing! Many giraffes were eating right outside our room! AK and the AKL are great if it rains too, because the animals love it!

The animals are more likely to be out when it is cold and even when it is raining...that is why they tell you to hit the Safari first thing in the morning. In the heat of the day they are usually lying down in the shade...

I thought they took the month of December off for the Christmas holiday. ;)

On my 1st trip to AKL, Dec 8-12, 2001, the weather was very warm. We swam every day. I was in room #4306, Kudu trail, Sunset Savanna. I saw many animals at different times of day. There were 3 giraffes that were always by our room.

My 2nd trip to AKL was Dec 8-13, 2002, and it rained very heavily for several of those days. I didnot swim at all, but my kids went in twice. There were many people that swam in the downpours because the water is heated. It seemed humorous to me, but I guess they figured, they'd get wet anyway and hey, they're on vacation.LOL!! I was in room #4213, Kudu Trail, Arusha Rock Savanna. There were plenty of animals out, even in the heavy downpours. My daughter and I loved to grab some hot chocolate and sit by the fireplace in the lobby on those chilly nights.

I'm sure you'll enjoy AKL regardless of the weather. It's so nice everything is in the same building, so if it is raining, you can still explore the resort. I hope you have a great time.:D
