DS15 was invited to a friends quincenaro (as far as I know, a 15th b-day party for Hispanic females) Anyway, this is completely new to me and I have NO idea what to do as far as a gift. They are school friends, just met this year in 9th grade. As of now, I am just figuring on money but is there anything I should know, is this similiar to a Bar Mitzpah? Our neice and nephews are raised Jewish so I am somewhat familiar with that. DS thought that money received often went to help pay for the celebration, is this true? If so, maybe a gift card would be a better way to go.

Thanks for any advice!

It is like a wedding with no groom. The birthday girl will have a pretty white dress and an escort and there is a ceremony at the church followed by a reception.

As for gifts. I would give what you normally would in price between a wedding and a birthday, if you so desire. Cash is the most gived gift, but then so are momentos. We are celebrating this young girl becoming a woman, so some nice grown-up trinket would also be in line as a gift. A necklace that is real silver with a stone, perhaps? A giftcard for a mani-pedi. Silver hairbrush set if she has long hair.

A jewelry box. A pretty bible cover. A silk wrap. Things like that or something that a young lady would use as an adult.

They are some good ideas, really like the mani-pedi gift card idea, thanks. I appreciate the help, any other ideas?

A Quinceanera is a coming of age ceremony/party similar to a Sweet 16 Party, but with a church ceremony that usually precedes the party. We've always given cash gifts.

I once helped a friend give her daughter a Quinceanera. They are spectacular. It's such a wonderful event. I second the cash gift. That's what most people give. If you were invited, I suggest going, too. They are quite beautiful!

Ahhh a quinceanera, such a memorable experience for a young lady. I remember my quinceanera, it was only 15 years ago!:scared1:
Anywho, How about a CG to the b-day girls favorite clothing store.

I had mine a couple of years ago.

It's just a big party in a ballroom, that's all, with the quinceanera wearing a white dress.

I got money/giftcards and clothes.

Any birthday gift would do. Just be happy your daughter wasn't asked to be a part of her court. I was in 5 over a two year period. Those dresses can add up. But man o man those were some great parties!
