Quinceanera Question

I am going to my first quinceanera celebration very soon. I kind of got roped into it, although I realize it is really my own fault. I should have known better to answer the question of "What are you doing on Saturday?" with "nothing." The fact is, I'm committed now, so although I only know the person who invited me, I am going to go and try to have a good time.

My question is about a gift. My coworker invited me---she is the grandmother. I have never met the girl or her mother. To be honest, I sort of feel like I was invited to fill a quota, because my coworker addressed the invitation and handed it to me after I said I was free today. I assume gifts are monetary? Is $25 enough? I have no clue. Also, not sure if pants are appropriate attire, but since that is all I have, I guess that's what I'm going to wear. Ugh. Lesson learned---I am kicking myself here.

I wouldn't go. You don't know the girl. and this is a co-worker not a friend.

I'd probably give the grandmother a card and gift(25) on Monday and explain that I 'fell ill' on Saturday. I'd rather pay $25 and stay home than hang with a bunch of strangers although you never know, you could meet some fun people:confused3 My sil and her family are latin and we have so much fun at parties....tons of dancing!!

Not an option. I said I'd go, so I intend to honor my word. Just unsure of the gift protocol.

That's what I'm hoping!

$25 is good. There will be music, food try going and having a goodtime. Now the chucch ceremony is looong atleast my nieces was. Got to the party for and 1hr-2hrs then go hoime. I wore nice black pants and nice top to my nieces. I skipped the party though only because My brother and ex sis inlaw have been single for years and both have new spouses and those spouses are very jealous . I think I would have been the only one on my side there so it would have been uncomfortable. And I only gave $25 with card, hey i'm on a budget !

I'm glad you're going!
When I was 15, (twenty years ago!) one of my best friends had a Quince, and I was one of her 14 friends/relatives that were part of her "court" (not sure if that's the right word) We wore special dresses and danced a special dance. It was fun. A couple weeks ago she actually posted some of the pics on facebook. Great trip down memory lane!

If nothing else, you get free food/drink and a cultural experience:thumbsup2

$25 should be fine...and for attire, nicer slacks and shirt should be fine, if that's what you have. I hope you have a wonderful time! :)

Always a GREAT party. Food and music (maybe a bubble DJ if you are lucky)
$25 is a nice gift if not that familiar with the family but again always a good time

I agree that $25 is good. Go and have fun! I think it was nice of your coworker to think of you. Although she kind of tricked you by asking if you were available before telling you why she was asking!:rotfl2:

If you are not having a good time, you can always leave early.
