Quieter restaurants for sensory sensitive kids?

Any suggestions for restaurants (either quick serve or not) that are on the quiet side to allow for somewhat of a sensory break for my kiddo with ASD. Ideally that serve chicken nuggets :) Thanks!

The upstairs dining room at Columbia Harbour House (Magic Kingdom QS) tends to be on the quieter side because not everyone realizes it's there. But you still have to get your food at the main counter.

For TS, Garden Grill at EPCOT is known for being quieter, especially if you can get a booth.

Where in WDW do they still serve chicken nuggets? We couldn't find them on the menu summer before last. They used to have them everywhere, and now? I think Pinocchio Haus was the only place!

Thanks for the ideas! We need 1 meal per park, ideally onsite because I want to minimise walking in the heat and travelling through crowds. Air conditionning would a plus since we are going in August. We went to WDW two years ago and were able to find lots of chicken nuggets/tenders in different places...hoping they are still on the menus because its the main thing my kids eat at the parks (sigh...). Do you know if Sci-fi diner is loud? I know my son would love watching movies and sitting in a car.

We love Sci-Fi, but it can feel loud - and some of the sound effects used in the old clips of movies and promos can have a sharp, sudden sound to them. Visually it's "noisy" as well - the screen dominates the dining area, and all of the cars face that screen. Obviously, the more people that are in that room, the better the acoustics become; when it's less than half full, it feels like the sound just bounces around in there.

The "cars" can seat 2 adults comfortably, our family usually sits 2 to a row. Because the car-tables face the screen, there's not much conversation - most folks watch the screen.

The content on the screen is a mix of old clips of inventions and former future technology, along with clips from old science fiction "B" grade movies from the late 40s/early 50s. Interspersed are the old concession stand "commercials" that used to air at real movie theaters and drive-ins back in the 40s/50s and 60s. Nothing really super "scary", but it's not everyone's cup of tea. My hubs doesn't see the humor or fun in it all... the rest of the family thinks that it's high camp, and the epitome of fun LOL. Your mileage may vary (pun intended).

If you can get one of the "umbrella" tables at the back of the room, it doesn't really mitigate the volume issue with the content being played on the screen, but it lets you see all of the "cars" (they aren't really cars, but they are awfully cute!) parked in rows, and it feels a bit less... hectic to me, even though you are sitting right next to the service counter where the wait staff is working. We often request a table back there, simply because we like it better; you don't have to face the screen straight on if you don't want to.

The last time we were there was in September 2018.

I can second Garden Grill at Epcot, especially at "off peak" times. Overall an excellent experience - because the dining room is constantly moving above The Land below, there is a point where you hear the dog barking almost incessantly. We block it out, but I can see where it might bother some folks.

At HS, I feel like you might be a bit limited right now as far as an overall quieter place for table service. The Hollywood Brown Derby, maybe? For a QS option, the ABC Commissary is indoors, with lovely AC, and although it's large, it's easy to find quieter, less hectic areas.

The Wave at the Contemporary was fairly quiet.

I was going to also suggest Wave, but on off hours. We usually schedule a very late lunch there to get away from the fracas of Magic Kingdom for a bit, plus it's a nice walk to and from. We have been there later in the evening (around 8-9 PM) and found it to be very loud with exhausted, overstimulated kids and avoid that time at all costs. Also, the first dinner seating (5 or 5:30) is also great.

I might have gone to some of theses during off peak times

MK liberty tree travern
Cosmic ray ( out side setting inside gets crazy)

EPCOT garden grill ( if you want to do a character meal this one might work). Coral reef. Tapped edo. Chefs de France

Hollywood Studios. The brown derby. There is an out side walk up place the serves appetizer and drinks the can get loud when the Star Wars show is going on. The back lot express but after the Indian Jones show it can get busy. The dockside is a quick service and they have tables on the other side of the lack so it can be a little quieter then the outside setting of the brown dirby

I will have to think about AK

I know this is not in a park but a short boat ride from MK.......
Trails End is probably one of our favorite places just for the reason of being more on the quieter side, less busy, and they have a playground that has a fence around it that the kids can just be kids too.
Honestly we have gone at all meal times and it has never been busy, loud, or had many people around us. It is worth the boat ride to the camp ground for the meal. Once there the over stimulation of the parks goes away as you are away from the crowds and noise. Hope this helps!

Mmmmmm... The Wave, for a late brunch buffet is so perfect. LOL I think I need to go check my ADRs now...

The MK is hard to find a quiet place to eat if you're there at a busy time especially. I thought Skippers was fairly quiet and low key the 3 times I've been there - especially in the smaller rooms (not the bigger main room but even it didn't seem loud). Teppan Edo feels quiet to me but there is the chef interacting with guests and the show they do with the knives and food so not sure if that would be cool and interesting or bothersome. It seemed quieter when we were seated in the back (like way back behind the restrooms - didn't even know there were tables back there until our last trip!). In the AK - Tiffins was very quiet and absolutely lovely. I think it's the quietest WDW restaurant I've ever eaten in. For DHS - nothing there is quiet - IMHO - but I've not tried Brown Derby. I love SciFI and although there's noise - it's like TV noise to me - or eating while you're watching a movie. There's not a lot of noise from other guests but the movie noises are a bit like being in a real theater. I like sitting in the cars more than the tables.

Coral Reef is really nice and soothing, darkish and calm. It's one of the reasons we love going there.
I'm suprised by the Teppan Edo suggestions. The Chefs clang the knives and make all sorts of sounds. It's certainly relatively calm when there's no cooking going on, but I'd think the cooking show would be difficult for a child with sensory issues.

Like someone else suggested, Skippers is probably your best bet at MK for a table service.
We love Yak and Yeti, and if you're upstairs it's relatively calm.
Agree with Brown Derby at DHS, or else walk to somewhere at Yacht Club

ETA: Forgot to answer about Sci Fi - I found it very overhwleming - it's crowded and there is always something going on. Also, my kids didn't really enjoy it because they were looking forward to "watching movies" and instead it was old sci-fi clips that they didn't really enjoy or relate to.

I have SPD and I do not find the clanging of the knives there use as bothersome I guest the region why is there really is not much other taking going on, they put on a cool show for you to see so that is a good distraction for me.

I had nuggets at least 2/3 times in September at Goods Food to Go, Columbia Harbour House, Electric Umbrella. I love Disney chicken nuggets :)

I thought the dining rooms all the way in the back past the bathrooms were quieter but yes the hibachi show is either one of those things that's a good distraction or super annoying. I figured OP might know what type of show it is but if not they should google it. It's like a Benihana: https://www.benihana.com

When we had lunch at Rose and Crown it was quiet too but it was so long ago I don't know if it still is. Also we had lunch at Morimoto Asia in Downtown Disney and that was very low key.

Hi! For a relaxing, out-of-the-way lunch spot at AK, I like Flame Tree BBQ; it's quick-service and the seating is outdoors, but the pavilions behind the restaurant right on the water are shaded, breezy and quieter especially if you go during an off-peak time. It's my favorite restaurant in AK because it feels "out of the way" and the water/plant features are nice changes from the chaos of the rest of the park :) I don't think they have chicken fingers, but if you grab them from another QS location, you can bring them down to the pavilions when you're ready to eat.

Enjoy your vacation!
