I have 2 nights booked at POP in early Oct. I am a little worried because I keep hearing how loud the value resorts are. What section (standard room) should I request? I was thinking about 60's facing the lake. Suggestions?

I would highly suggest you request a room NOT facing a pool. The biggest complaint regarding noise at the value resorts I have is the noise from the pools...even the so called 'quiet pools.'

Can you suggest a building? We have always stayed at CSR before, and are very spoiled! We decided to do POP as the kids always beg to stay here, and it's just 2 days pre-cruise. I can't handle the anxious, unplanned feeling of not knowing where to stay! :scared:

I stay at the values quite often and have never had an issue with noise.

The noise issues come with :

1. The main pool is located very close to some of the value rooms.

The themed pools at the mods and deluxes are set away from the rooms.

Tip: Ask for a room facing away or located a ways from the main pool.

2. Turbo toilets

The Values, AKL,AKV,SSR ,and some renovated rooms at POR are newer and have the turbo toilets.

Tip: Close your bathroom door at night because noise travels through the plumbing.

3. Connecting rooms

About 50% of the value rooms have connecting doors.

Noise will travel under the connecting doors in a room.

Tip: If you have noisy neighbors open your connecting door and place a rolled up bath towel on the floor between then close and lock your connecting door.

Some guests have found that a fan or white noise machine helps them sleep better.

These tips should help you get a restful sleep wherever you choose to stay.

Have fun at Disney!

I would aks for any building that is facing Hourglass Lake, those buildings would be 50's, 60's, or 70's building. You know this will be a bit of a walk if you do this, so if you wanted anything that would make it a bit easier, I would request the 60's building, so you can walk pretty much a straight way to the main building.

I thought the 60's was "preferred" ? I could be wrong. But the OP mentioned they had a standard room. We had preferred this past Sept and we were in the 60's. Not too much noise---we were not near the main pool. But in the past, we found the 80's (Roger Rabbit) pool VERY noisy. At 3 am we heard people laughing and screaming down by the pool. One thing you won't be able to avoid (and we've stayed at POP about 5-6x now) is the door slamming. I don't understand why people do that. But if you like to either get to bed early in the night or sleep in during the morning, it's near impossible to do uninterupted at POP from my 5-6 stays there. People pull the latch thing over and then let the door slam on it while they go in and out of their room. The quietest room we ever had at POP was in the 90's. It was also the furthest walk we've ever had to the food court. But we had a room facing outward, toward a grassy area. Our view was of trees and the road that circles and connects the various parking lots. We've stayed in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's......and the one room in the 90's was the one that had the least noise.

We stayed in the 50's building facing the lake and it was very quiet and a nice view also. We used the bowling pin pool which is at that building and it was never busy.

I agree. Just ask for "a room facing the lake". This gives the CM a greater pool of rooms from which to assign yours and makes it more likely that you'll get your request.

For our trip in February, we requested a quiet room, 50's building, top floor, lake view.....we got it all and it was very nice. No-one running above us, no one running outside the room at night. It was a little farther away from the main building...i.e. the coffee in the AM and bus depot, but for me the light sleeper, it was totally worth it. I see that you are going in 4 months, so Septemberish right? I would think the resort wouldn't be nearly as crowded as the summer months since the kiddos will be back in school so even a room around one of the other pools (not Hippity Dippity) might be fairly quiet and a little closer to the main hall. The 50's building is around the bowling pin pool and for us in February, even with nice weather (and we did swim), this pool was never real crowded.

that's exactly what we had last year: 50s building, facing lake, top floor - very quiet, peaceful in the morning (would look out at the lake, and yes, the "unfinished buildings" early in the day) - minimal people traffic

I think the main noise problem is the people who leave their door propped open and letting it slam fifty thousand times. Being by the pool is noisy, but I could sleep through that. The door slamming I can't. And if your neighbors turn the tv way up and/or scream over it. Just pray for good neighbors, they are really the only problem. Even the toilets flushing don't bother me.

Just had to mention. In my 6 stays, I have requested the 50's building 4x. Never once did I get it. Now I know why.....you guys have all been getting the rooms in the 50's !

I've checked in as early as 9 am and as late as midnight. Wonder who I have to bribe to get this section ;)

Arrrgh! Yes, I know just what you mean! When they flip the latch and let the door slam on it. Grrr....that is REALLY annoying!:furious: That is when I stick my head out the door and say, "Could ya please quit w/ the door slamming, huh?"

One time I stayed in the 90's building facing the lake on the second floor ......it was the only quiet room I ever had at POP.

Our POP room last Aug was fairly quiet, an easy walk from the food court and buses. It was in the 70s, bldg 10, not far from the Big Wheel. A great tip from this board--bring a small electric fan, air purifier or even a "white noise" machine. Our fan was quiet and its hum on the low and medium settings was just what we needed to mask outside noise.

I have stayed 3x in 50's 4th floor, lake view and noise has not been a problem. I would definitely ask for top floor and NOT a pool view.

We always request top floor so we don't hear noise above us. I like the theming best in the 60's section, but didn't know if the back side of those buildings would be considered preferred or not. We'll be there Oct 2-4. Since we generally stay at CSR, a little walking to food court or buses doesn't really bother us - especially since it is only 2 days.

Does Pop have elevators in the buildings?

Does Pop have elevators in the buildings?

Yes....all bldgs have elevators centrally located. So if you have a room on the end of a building, it can be a little hike. We've had end rooms several times and just use the stairs. But it depends on whether you are traveling with small kids and strollers or mobility challenged people. So it's nice to know the elevators are there.

Mid-sized kids, no stroller this trip... just lazy about carrying luggage up the stairs! :rotfl2: I admit I am a real whimp when it comes to schelpping the stuff to and from the car! As we tend to overpack (hazard that comes with driving!) we have to make MANY trips!

We were there over Memorial Day week last year and stayed on the back side of the Tramp building facing the lake (standard room). We didn't hear any noise, neighbors, or anything else after the door was closed.

DH and I stayed at Pop in February 2007 in a room in the 80's, not sure which building #, but it was the Roger Rabbit building, we faced some trees and it was very quiet as well.
