Quiet Pool?

they are not called quiet pools because they are supposed to be quiet. they are called quiet pools because nobody really goes there because the main pool is the biggest attraction. compare the 2 pools and u will say that one is much more quieter than the other but that doesnt mean there is a law against making any kind of noise. dont get me wrong, i like the quiet pools to and i read there sometimes, but these other people are on vacation too. maybe there were no rooms close to the main pool and they dont feel like walking that far to go swimming and they have kids. hey its annoying sometimes but it has to be sucked up and dealt with. but as far as cannon balls in a hot tub and food throw in the pool, that has to stop. sorry if i sound mad because im really not just wanted to voice my opinion.

My interpretation on the "quiet pool" is that since they are located close to rooms, than the noise from any bathers (not just children) should be kept to a minimum after a certain hour at night so people can sleep and not be distrurbed in their rooms. When I stayed at the BCV with my mom last November, we went down to the pool for a last swim around 11pm. We could not relax and have a leisurely swim because of the several children who were running, jumping, and cannonballing literally on top of us while their mother looked on with a dazed and confused expression on her face. I do not have a problem with children having fun in the pool. Cannonballing on top of people who are trying to enjoy the pool is not acceptable behavior, and if my own kids even thought about doing that, they would be marched back to the room before their suits even got wet! I also felt bad for the people with rooms right next to the pool who may have been trying to sleep at 11pm while these kids were screaming. Just when I thought it would end, the fathers showed up and started a game of pool football. Again, nothing I would normally object to if they weren't any other people trying to use the pool, and if people near by weren't trying to sleep. Mom and I went back to our room (a pool view, 2nd floor) and could hear them through the closed door until well after midnight. For this reason, I'm hesitant to have a pool view again.

It is rare that Disney calls them quiet pools, that is generally a term used my guests and not Disney themselves.

My last visit to OKW I got hit in the side of the head by an object that was being thrown around the whole pool. There were two adults and one child and they were in the pool all day long taking up the entire pool with their playing catch. This type of behavior has to stop or else we are going to be having to pay for life guards. Then there will be no jumping or runnning or throwing things around the pool. I was always against having to pay for life guards but after being hit in the side of the head by one of these idots, I am changing my mind about life guards.

You are all right, I absoutly cannot stand those dorky dads who throw balls around the pools and throwing there kids up and down. They are the reasons why there kids act so bad around the pools.It should be stopped and I think adults only pools is the only way to go.

don't think that adults are better - one night - these adults were in the spa tub - they have brought their watercooler filled with drinks - they were very drunk and screaming and being an idolt - my friend called security - they went out their TWICE - they left the first time but as soon as the security guard was gone - they started back - the second time it worked!!!

I was just glad that my bedroom was not on that side.....

now don't get me wrong there is nothing bad about a drink a too - but when you are so drunk you don't realize you are shouting then it is time to stop.

so an adults only pool I don't think would work....I could be wrong -

but alot of the kids were nicer than the adults

Pa@okw95 - did your family leave when they realized that they had hit you - like the one I dealt with did???? or did they just kept playing?

These are a few examples I found of Disney literature describing the smaller pools as Quiet Pools (emphasis is mine)

From the 2002 - 2003 Member Guidebook:
Page 94, Beach Club Villa Fun and Games - "Dunes Cove Pool: NEED TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL? THIS QUIET POOL... is a perfect setting for RELAXATION, whether you want to read a novel or simply bask in the sun."

Page 102, BWV Fun and Games - "Luna Park- It's carnival time by the pool! The enormous free form pool is crowned by the famous Keister Coaster water slide... FOR A QUIETER SWIM, the resort also offers two additional pools."

Yep on all the maps they refer to them as quite pools! When you check in they also tell you at the desk where the "quite" pools are.
Maybe someone needs to bring it up if they are at a members meeting.

When I was at BCV last week the "quiet pool" had hours posted from 8am-11pm. So, nobody should have been making noise at midnight.

I never assumed "quiet" meant silent, but without activities, therefore calmer or quieter then the main pool.

I saw a lady hit in the head with a "Frisbee" at one of the OKW quiet pools. Not only didn't the man and his 3 kids stop throwing, they actually seemed indignant that her head got in the way of their favorite pool pass-time.

spiceycat-- They did not stop but did draw in their throwing area a few feet. I left the pool however. The next day they were right back at it again, taking the whole large pool area with their game of catch. Another group of adults were throwing a small football from the large pool over the bridge to the other side of the large pool area. They only did this for about 5 minutes- I guess their brain started to function that this was not a good idea. I have to tell you right up front we need life guards at OKW not to save anyone from drowning but to keep some order to the pool area. That would mean no jumping in the pools, no running, no catch, no food or drink near the pools, just to mention a few things. It is very unpleasant going to the pool area at times in the summer time. I don't plan on going ever again in the summer but for those that do I would think it is time to have some order at the pools.

Up to this point, I haven't used the pools, myself. I always thought that the "quiet pools" were meant for folks who wanted to swim laps for excercise (not necessarily just for adults).

I'm beginning to think that "quiet pool" only means "no lifeguard"?

First of all, I wonder if everyone agrees there should be some kind of limits on activities at the "quiet pool"? For example: I really don't think folks should be out in the "quiet pools" at 2am in the morning screaming and hollering and making all kinds of noise (which I have witnessed in the past). I wonder if most folks would agree? This might make an interesting poll...

Well according to the self appointed DVC experts that frequent this board.....
The only pools at WDW that have life guards are the pools with a pool slide. Except for the value resort pools that have life guards and do not have a slide. Why you may ask do the value resorts have life guards at their main pools and not OKW? The reasons given in another thread are: OKW is a DVC resort and the value resorts are not; the value resorts have large pools; the value resorts have more guests--which is hard to believe since OKW is a much larger resort than any of the Value resorts; the value resorts have guests that do not properly supervise their children; the Disney lawyers decided that for legal issues the value resorts needed life guards at the main pools but OKW did not. I personally can see no logic, rhyme or reason in these excuses for the lack of life guards at OKW, but this was what was posted on the thread: "The Pool really does matter" or something along those lines.
BTW, none of these theories of why the value resorts have life guards and OKW does not have been confirmed in anyway by Disney but the resident self appointed DVC gurus of the DIS board seem to like them! LOL!

I really think that all the points in the OP, and in this one applies to all pools. Should kids be jumping in any jacuzzi? Should folks be screaming at any pool at 2 am?
I would not be happy with bratty kids at the quiet pool..but I wouldn't be happy with them at the main pool either. I think this is an issue of badly supervised kids, period.
I have 2 little ones and we always go to the quiet pool because I like to sit at a table in the shade and they are available at the quiet pool more readily. Are they quiet as mice? No? Do they run around screaming their heads off? No, because they would get into trouble. Does my husband sometimes toss them in the air into the water? Yes because it's fun, and they don;t spalsh much because they can't swim so he catches them.
Does he do it when there is anyone around? No.
There has never been more than 3-4 people IN the pool any time we have been there...and it's usually a parent with a couple of grade school kids. I think because they can sit and watch their kids and be able to keep an eye on them alot easier at the quiet pool than the sprawling main pools.

DeeP - please check your facts - the All star resort (each one) has 1,920 rooms - OKW has 761 units (this includes the studios).

All star has a lot more rooms than OKW.

OKW is more spread out.

OKW was modeled after the other timeshares in the area - life guards do not exist at these places - even when they have a slide. again when members were asked if they want a lifeguard it was voted down - so it is not going to happen. WDW does not pay for this - the member would and they are not willing too.

Pa@okw95 - you are just sweeter than me - after I got hit - I looked at their father (?) - I was mad and he could definitely see that - if I got out I would have definitely called the security - playing is okay as long as you aren't endangering others - too many kids can't understand this - but their parents need too....

So sorry, I stand corrected. OKW just seems soooo much bigger because it is so spread out. All other comments remain the same.
As for the other timeshares in the area, all the ones I have been to have life guards at the main pools. Very good friends of mine own several timeshares in the immediate WDW area and theirs all have life guards.
Not to start a debate again BUT if members are unwilling to pay extra for pool enhancements then does it not stand to reason they should also not be able to pool hop to another resort to get the enhanced pool????? If they do not want to pay for it at their own home resort why should they be able to enjoy the enhanced pool, slide and life guard service at the other WDW/DVC resorts that those members/guests ARE paying for???????????? It is things like this that will eventually put a end to pool hopping privledges for DVC members. It won't effect me because I am prefectly happy with the enhanced pool, pool slide and life guard services that are available at the main pool of my home resort. But for the OKW owners that have posted on this board that they would like an enhanced pool w/slide etc., it is a shame.

HMMM. Once again a legitimate thread has been hijacked to be an OKW bashing fest for our favorite OKW hater!

I am not sure that the lack of lifeguards makes this necesarrily worse. We seldom have a problem at the quiet pools, and I have to agree, that sometimes the adults are more of a problem than the kids. We all have the ability to call security or speak up if we see something going on that is unsafe or just plain stupid. I would bet those inconsiderate folks are the same ones who come down and steal the pool towels for the rooms too!

Lifeguards or not. There are rules and time limits on the quiet pools. If you feel anyone is in violation of the posted rules and time guidelines, call security.

We had some problems with rowdy late users of the BCV quiet pool in the wee hours of the morning. Security took care of the problem.

JVL i agree with you 100 percent. i to throw a yong one in the pool and its my sister who is a lot younger than me. we do not act like idiots and i respect others when they are around. it is just fun. some people have to see that. there is a difference between acting like a total idiot and having fun. if someone is just throwing their child up and down in the water and making a little bit of splash and noise i see no harm in that. im sure many of the people who posted have one time or another thrown their kid in a pool and maybe once got someone angry when they did it. but you dont think about it because u are on vacation and having fun. i would be mad if someone was screaming by the pool at 2 am while we are trying to sleep, but as far as pool behavior goes, there is no slide at okw for the kids, why dont we just take their toys away from them too. im sure when you were younger you loved to play with toys in the pool too. remember you were once their age. but yea id get mad if i got beemed in the head with a ball or frisbee, but id say id get over it fast because its soft and made for kids. by the way i am not young i am in my 20's, im just a fan of having a good time(in a respectful manor).
