Quiet Pool at AKL?

On our last trip, we stayed near the Paddock pool at SSR, and was extremely unhappy with the pool closing at 10PM in Mid to late August. When we first joined DVC, the life guards would leave, but the pools would stay open. Not any more.

Our next trip, again mid August to labour day, we were thinking AKL. Are there any "quiet pools" at AKL, either Jambo or Kidani, that would be open late?

There are no "quiet pools" at AKL. Both pools qualify as feature pools.

Unfortunately they ended 24 hour pool access property wide a couple years ago. They have been installing fences around every pool and access is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty. I believe this was in response to a nighttime drowning at the Pop Century.

For my visit in March the pools and hot tubs closed at 8pm which I found a bit absurd (at least 10PM would be nice). Nice to take a dip in the hot tub after a day in the parks.

It was mid-90's in mid August, even at night, and they closed up the pool at 10 PM. Insane. Not impressed.

Considering that not all pools have lifeguards that "reason" doesn't make a lot of sense.

Which pools do not have lifeguards? In any event, a drowning of a 13-year-old in March 2013 at Pop after hours when lifeguards were not present is what triggered the decision announced in Sep 2013 to enclose and close pools when lifeguards are not present. Likely what occurred is that the liability insurer insisted that steps be taken to enclose pools and prevent access at least at night when lifeguards not present or otherwise have coverage excluded, because courts were more and more upholding large verdicts, finding that providing warnings that lifeguards were not present and claiming you were acting at your own risk were not enough to avoid liability, particularly if a minor was the victim. The process of enclosing pools has been in progress since.

BCV/BC quiet pools, VWL quiet pool, BWV/BWI quiet pools, OKW quiet pools, SSR quiet pools just to name a few. There are a lot that do not have lifeguards.

I'm not questioning the fencing and gating - I think it had been questioned for awhile why Disney hadn't done it as I believe it had been a few years before that since a FL law had been passed requiring that. The early closings and late openings though are questionable and likely "just because" vs a response to a drowning.

None of the quiet pools have guards.

My understanding with the fencing was that they were grandfathered, but as they started to make modifications or build new pools, those pools had to get fencing. So they've just been doing it across the board, especially with the drowning and other water-related issues. (For the latter, fencing is security theatre, but it does reassure.)

It's all more perceived security, which does nothing but upset paid customers. If I'm paying top dollar for a hotel, why on earth can't i swim in a pool after 10PM. If i choose to swim with no lifeguard, that's on me.
