“Local” as in a 2-3 hour drive away. Hubby retired from the Navy and we have been SO thankful to have our resale DVC points. They’ve allowed us to travel and have fun this year while we are on a tighter budget.
Cheapskate tips follow:
#1 Bring your own booze. We stop at Buc-ee’s for some wine or bring a bottle of fun to doctor our dole whip floats.
#2 Mobile order quick service is our friend. Kids meals work great for my little appetite! I can order a kid’s meal while hubby and teens get their adult entrees. We have found some great values! Pulled pork nachos……
#3 Buy resale! If you cannot afford DVC direct. If you can only afford a small contract. I say do it! We have stayed at BRV, AKL Jambo and Kidani, SSR, VGF, and Poly. We have loved every single stay. Have been able to invite along friends and relatives. Wish I had known about it earlier.
#4 Find the free things! Ask for the freebies when you check in. Look at other resorts’ activity calendars and book a dining or ride some transportation if you’d like to check them out. We happily stumbled upon the free tea garden tour at Epcot
. Hidden Mickey scavenger hunts, cell painting class at VGF, ranger tour of the history of Wilderness Lodge, cultural ambassadors at AKL. Pool activities and outdoor games. Sing a longs and marshmallow roasting.
#5 Enjoy cast member conversations and recommendations! We have only been DVC owners for 3 years. In almost every trip, at least one CM has told a memorable story or offered a tip for something to try I would not have thought of on my own. Ranger Alan at WL is my all time favorite.
Attached are some pics of our trips this year! Have a magical day!
