At first, I thought I would wait and post an update when mother was moved to a regular hospital room from Coronary Care but I changed my mind.
Firstly, let me thank all of you for your prayers and good thoughts. I could never explain how much the outpouring of caring thoughts meant to me and how much I appreciate the prayers and good wishes.
Mother awoke and decided she wasn't going into that good night without a fight and she has been fighting.
Monday night she ended up on life support because the effort of trying to breathe with lungs full of fluid was not working well. She was on life support for 4 days. She was able to breathe on her own by this past Tuesday am. By Tuesday evening she had fluid around her heart and had to go to surgery which put her back on the ventilator for another 12 hours. They drained the 700 cc's of fluid and put in a pericardial window.
She is once again off the ventilator, breathing on her own, fluid is gone for now. She is "better". Still critical, still in CCU but not in hospice. She is still cancer free unless they have missed something.
She is not out of the woods but she is alive and she is getting mentally better (it was scary while she was on the Nubain). She recognizes everyone in the family but is missing a couple of years right now. The doctors are convinced that this is because of the drugs. If they hadn't also told me to put her into hospice I would feel better about EVERYTHING.
Thank you, my friends, for all of your caring good thoughts. You are a wonderful group of people. You are an amazing group of people...and I appreciate each and every one of you.
