What are the best walk-in places to eat. My son REALLY wants to go to Sci-fi again, is it hard to get in without a res? Other options? Thanks!!!

The Plaza @ MK is walk-up now. A few restaurants at Disney Springs you can call direct to get a table. Rest of table services at the parks I find are popular enough that walk-ups are hard to come by. I would start checking and re-checking at least daily for cancellations.

Sci-Fi sometimes has walk-up availability, but you'd be seated at a picnic table in the back, not in a car. I don't know how he'd feel about that.

Honestly, it isn't that hard to get same day ADRs for most restaurants if you use the app & keep checking. Walk-ups are a bit more difficult. Some places will actually tell you there's no availability when there's an open reservation sitting there on the app.

When is your trip?
Whether it is a Quick Trip or a Long Trip really has no bearing on Walk up seating availability :-)
Disney does not hold any tables for walk ups. But folks do cancel.
Your best bet, as stated, is to continually check the MDE app, including the night before and the day of for a cancellation and then book that.

If you can't find any reservations right now on the site, try again at the 24hr prior to when you want to eat, since that's the cut off to not have to pay for cancellation, that's when you'll see the most pop up.
Because of this same day is also possible, we've been waiting for rope drop and been playing on the app and been all "oh hey, wanna go to Crystal Palace right now?" and made the resso no problem.

As for a walk up, go RIGHT away when the restaurant opens to check, you may have to wait for the first wave to be seated, or come back in an hour, but the earlier you go to ask, the higher the chance is, if you walk up mid dinner rush the chances are VERY slim. If they say no at closer to peak lunch time, swing back around 2 pm to check again. How many people are in your party will affect it as well, the smaller your party the better!

Thanks! Our trip is May 12-15.

We have 5 in our party and will be at HS on Sat. night. I was able to get a reservation at 845, but we would probably miss the star wars show at 930 :/.

As others have stated keep checking back and you will have a good chance at getting a better time. Many people cancel a day or two before to avoid the no show charge, so keep checking, and have a great trip

Your best chance of getting a walk-in is going around 3pm (at least, that's what I was told when we tried to get a walk-in at 50s Prime Time).

MK - as PP said - the Plaza is a walk up and we enjoyed the food. As others have said - while we were at DW - the day before (when people have to cancel) we have gotten many reservations - even BOG. I think when you are going you should be able to get walk ups. Definitely in EPCOT - We once did a walk up in China, Italy, UK and Morocco.
HS - Hollywood and Vine we did a walk up once in the summer for a large party.
Enjoy

Yes. If you keep this time you will definitely miss the Star Wars show
Unfortunately that is an almost definite (missing the Star Wars show). We had ADRs in early Dec. for 8:30 there and didn't sit until 9:15 which was crazy, won't do that again...IMHO not worth the wait...and it was pretty empty by the time we were finally seated. I'd rather see the Star Wars show than eat there.

YAY! I have been checking multiple times a day and last night a 4:40 came open. :)

Yes. I really want to see the show, but DS and DH really want to eat there. We ate there in Dec and they said it was the best burgers in DW so when I asked DS what one thing he wanted to do on this quick trip...he said eat at Sci-Fi. :)

That is awesome, very happy for you!!! It does take some time, but it has definitely paid off for our family also to just keep checking back. :)
