Quick trip - no parks - which resort?

I have stayed at OKW, BWV, BCV, and SSR and though SSR was my least favorite of those, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if my choices were limited. I always like to try different places and this seems like a good opportunity for you to do just that! I hope to eventually sample all DVC resorts including the Treehouses! Have fun!!

I think pool time and shopping will be fun. To be honest, since we normally stay over at AKV or BWV (where we own points) - we have not been to Downtown Disney in a couple years - so I am excited to check it out again!

Now I just have to figure out the logistics of getting us there... my daughter and I can leave on a Tuesday after my last class for the day. My husband will be in a city 3 hours from us for work - so he will fly out of that town on Thursday morning... But, with Magical Express - we can get to the resort no problems. He can then take a cab... no need for a car.

Now I am excited! Thanks all. SSR will be fun to check out and since we are not doing the parks - it will be neat to spend some time just looking around.

We stayed at SSR last June for the first time, we were in the Paddock section right next to the pool that was going to be remodeled. We only did 1 day in MK to see the Electric Light Parade. Another day we spent at TL. We hadn't been to DTD in years, and we spent almost every night over there. We saw LaNouba which was great. And on restaurant.com, The House of Blues is one of the GC you can purchase.

Have fun whatever you decide.

Thanks! I am going to snag a restaurant.com gift certificate for House of Blues. It is a great deal! I am getting so very excited to sit by a pool... snowed again yesterday and snow expected tomorrow. I am sick of snowblowing. Why does it always snow when hubby is away? :)

Sue, I missed the days you are at SSR. If it is Fri-Tues go to Community Hall anytime between 2-10pm and look for Sundee. (She's off Wed/Thurs)

Sundee is one of the best Activities Counselors on property. She's like everyone's favorite great aunt or grandma. She'll keep you and DD entertained with all sorts of activities in the Hall. Tell her Grandma Mohawk's posse sent ya.

A few other things for you to know:

There's a ferry leaving SSR's Carriage House for Downtown Disney Pleasure Island from 11am - midnight. Just go out through the Artist's Palette gift shop (follow the hallway down and out the doors to the Turf Club terrace and down the steps). You can't miss the dock.

If you miss the ferry and just want to go to West Site (where House of Blues is), take the pathway to the right over the bridge to the golf courses. This is the West Side path. It winds its way along the river, left and back up along the West Side parking lot to Cirque and House of Blues. You'll encounter Cirque first. The path is well lit at night and day. It's actually the shortest route to House of Blues than taking the ferry.

DTD Marketplace has several good places to shop and eat. Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich are two really good counterservice locations. They also take the Dining Plan if you have that. And don't forget to get some ice cream at Ghiradelli's Soda Shop.

Marketplace also has a $15 and under shop for little gifts if DD wants to take something home to friends. It is near Pooh's shop by the carousel.

Best time to go shopping at DTD is a weekday or before noon.

There are 3 pools open in SSR right now: Grandstand, Congress Park and High Rock Springs pool. All are heated. The Springs pool has a slide operating between 10am-8pm. There are splash play areas at Springs and Grandstand.

Wednesdays they hold the flower arranging class at Community Hall. If you haven't called to pre-register you may be able to just drop in and sign up. It happens from 1-2pm. I've done it twice. Both good times. Costs around $50 per person but they give you a flower pot as well as all the flowers. My displays lasted about 2-3 weeks.

They also do movies at the pool nightly at 8pm. usually that is the Springs pool. But if it gets too cold or windy, they'll move the movie inside Community Hall in the TV room.

You can also rent DVDs and board games free for the night as a DVC member. Just ask at Community Hall. They have two big binders by the door with listings.

Someone is always on duty for Bell Services. You are arriving late so you'll see a skeleton crew at Carriage House front desk. Don't worry. They'll get you sorted.

Ask for a second copy of the resort map. One to keep in the room and one to carry in your pocket. I find newbies have a hard time getting the layout of the resort right at first. It takes a couple walks around. You'll also find it seems to look different at night and during the day. That'll fade as you get to know it.

Sorry, I don't have any info about the spa. I haven't tried that yet.

Most of all have fun! My dad and I consider SSR our home away from home. It's a beautiful place to retreat from the cold or hectic pace of life.

BroganMC-
Thanks! What great suggestions! I really appreciate it. My daughter and I are arriving late on a Tuesday night. DH comes in on Thursday. So - DD and I will explore the pools and DTD. We will definitely check out the community hall. I love the Community Hall at BWV - so I can only imagine it is great at SSR too. And... I will keep a map with me! The resort looks huge - so I am certain I will get lost if I don't! ;)

I would choose SSR because of pools, spa, and Downtown Disney acces by walking. There is plenty to do in Downtown Disney for both you and DD.

I lean more to BCV. I have stayed there before and not went to the park and loved it. I like the location to the boardwalk and other hotels (for more dining options), Stormalong Bay pool, and the movies on the beach nightly. Plus the activity at Boardwalk is fun too. You could rent a boat or a bike and ride around. It is a beautiful and calming just walking around the lake there. And you can also hope on the bus to go to Downtown Disney. SSR does not have enough food options for me and depending on where you room is your going to either have to take a bus or a long walk to get there. Plus at Beach club/Boardwalk area you can see Epcot's fireworks without actually going into the park, which is a plus
