DH, 42, wanted somewhere warm and cheap and let me decide where to go
Day Two Jan. 18: Im with the band
Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney and DisneyQuest.
Crowds: Light (morning) to moderate by evening
Weather: PERFECT!!!!!!!
The plan was to be at the Magic Kingdom around 8:30 so we could go thru security and be in line to be among the first in the park. Once the park opened we headed to Fantasyland to ride Winnie the Pooh (DH has never ridden it. This is the ONLY thing he doesnt remember that he honestly has not done before). We were the first people on the ride and went through it all by ourselves. All of the hunny pots around us were empty. As we were getting off the ride, who should be getting on but that silly old bear himself, and his buddies Tigger and Eeyore. They each had a family they were going to ride with. The CM asked if we wanted to ride againwith our choice of characterbut we decided that the children coming along to ride would enjoy it more so we moved on. DH had his Grumpy t-shirt on and I had on my Snow White t-shirt so we headed for Snow White next. DH SWEARS he had never been on this but I know better. (Hes just suffering from some memory disease.) After Snow White we head to Peter Pan and then Its A Small World. Everything is a walk on. No wait yet for anythingwe are loving life. A Quick jump on the carousel and then its off to Buzz Lightyear.
Buzz has a very brief less than five minute wait and soon we are battling Zurg. We each have our own vehicle and are trying to outscore each other. Who won??? Lets just say we didnt ride it again during our trip and I remain undefeated (at least by DH.....DS is another story). DH wants to ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority since he has never ridden it (YES he has, he just cant remember. Do you see a theme here????) Then its Astro Orbitor which he, of course, cant remember riding before. (Honey, we have been here 2 -3 times a year for ten years...we have ridden every ride here and some not here anymore. We will ride new rides as they come. Trust me when I say youve done something)
After Tomorrowland we head over to Frontierland for a quick trip on BTMRR. We stroll through the park stopping at different shops, DH buys a dragon chalice in the shop in the castle, and we head for Main Street. We stop at Caseys for hotdogs for lunch. They dont open until 11:00. My goodness..its only five of....weve done all we wanted to do in under two hours???? I ask DH if he wants french fries with his hot dog and he says no, which surprises me . I order some anyway figuring hell eat them. I sit at the table while he goes to the fixins bar and does up his hotdog. He comes back all excited Honey, I forgot they had cheese for the french fries (OkayI am starting to get worried. Has he bumped his head at some time that Im not aware of???). So now hes happy to eat the french fries. After lunch we go to the hat shop on Main Street, I need to get mouse ears for a friend back home who wanted me to pick some up for his grandchildren. DH checks out the pin cart while I am in the shop. We then head to the film place next to Tonys. Im drawing a blank on its name (and I talk about my DH????). Exposition Hall!!!!!!!! I knew I would remember. Anyway, if you go all the way in, they have neat exhibits and there is usually a character or two hanging out. This morning it was the Fairy Godmother, Snow White and Mary Poppins. There is also a little movie theatre where you can watch the old black and white cartoons.
DH wants to check out the shops at Animal Kingdom and I want to do Downtown Disney. So I drop DH at the Animal Kingdom and we make plans to meet at 3:00pm. I go to Downtown Disney and browse the shops. I collect salt and pepper shakers and havent seen any new ones for a looooooong time. I go to pick up DH and then we head to DisneyQuest. DH has never been (so theres nothing here for him to forget). We do CyberSpace Mountain and he loves it. Then its onto Astro Blaster (twice) he loves it. Then the pinball game. He beat me. (Which makes him very happy since now he can brag about beating me at something). We check out the cyber café but he cant get to his email. We leave DisneyQuest and head to the Magic Kingdom for the parade and fireworks.
This is where we sortof lost the magic. PARADE TIME. Now, I am a get a spot for the parade an hour or more beforehand person. Not happening tonight. We arrived at 6:00 for the parade. All of the curbside seats are taken. DH picks out a spot behind a very nice couple and soon a nice family joins us. We are at the end of Main Street, on the Tomorrowland side, in front of the popcorn court, right where there is a little path roped off. They have also roped off behind us to leave a walking path for people. In all fairness to DH this was a great spot. Soon a woman dropped off her two little kids and got in line for the popcorn. Things are getting a little crowded as people start crowding around us. How many times did I hear the CM asking people to either move to our side of the rope (where there was no room) or keep moving. Do not block the aisle????? DH has gone off to get something to eat and I am talking to the family & couple around us.
There was a very nice band that played before the parade. Gadsen or Gasden High School. Something like that. MOST of the people with the band, who were taking pictures, were seated at the end of Main Street on the circle/hub in front of the castle facing down Main Street so they could take pictures. Guess what?????? A lady came over to where we were (she couldnt squeeze in where everyone else was) and proceeded to stand behind the rope in the section the CM was trying to keep clear. The CM asked the woman to please get under the rope or move because they needed to keep this area clear. The woman replied Im with the band. The CM asked her to move again and she wouldnt. She kept saying Im with the band. Im just going to take a picture and then leave. And she proceeded to stand there, shoving against everyone else to get into the picture perfect angle. Im thinking, If you wanted a good picture spot, you should have gotten here earlier than five minutes before they were going to be here Anyway, she kept making rude comments about the CM, how she only wanted a picture, she was going to get her picture whether they liked it or not, stepping on me, etc. So,................I couldnt help it. I was possessed by the Evil Theme Park Commando Persona.......when the band came by........................................I stood up. I heard an Excuse me from behind me and then was jostled a bit as she had to find another picture perfect angle. But she got her picture and left.
She was replaced by two women who kept trying to squeeze under the rope into our area. Which was already full. DH still is not back. Anyway, the two little kids whose mom had left them, were like all kids...up and down. Up and down. At one point, one went to check on her mom in the line and one stood up and leaned over the people in front to see if anything was coming yet. That was the opportunity for these women to push under the rope. I loudly said those two kids are sitting there and the people I had been talking to earlier looked around at me. Judging from the expression on the husbands face he was ready to jump in with me if they didnt take the hint. Just then the little girl came back and I said really loud Dont worry Ive been saving your seat. She mentioned her mom and I said Dont worry we have your moms seat too. The women then pointed to where my bag was and asked if that spot was taken and I said yes, my husband and I are sitting there. They werent happy but moved back behind the rope.
WHO WOULD TRY TO STEAL SPOTS FROM KIDS?????????? Anyway DH got back and the parade started. After we all settled in, there was a bit of a spot so I asked the girl standing behind us if she wanted to sit and she said no. About half way through the parade a gentleman tapped me and asked if a girl who had forgotten her glasses could sit up there and I said of course so we made room for her.
After the parade we moved over to the terrace in Tomorrowland to watch Tinkerbelle fly. DH loved watching Tink fly and was so excited. (DH cant remember seeing this before...no comment.) and then the fireworks. After the fireworks we watched the Castle and people leaving the park. Then we caught the monorail back to the parking lot and went back to the hotel. Do we set the alarm tonight? Nah...this is supposed to be a laid back, relaxing trip.
