After planning our April trip to the "World" I felt that I just could not wait any longer so looking at the school calendar, I saw that my wife and kids were off on Feb 21 and 22 and that I could get a good AP rate at POP. So, I decided that we would take a real short 3 day trip.

Here's the details:

We will start our drive from the Philadelphia the evening of Friday, Feb 18th and arrive in Disney in time for a late lunch on Saturday, Feb 19th.

We will have Saturday evening and all day Sunday and Monday to do the parks. I expect that we will go to MK on Saturday to just soak up the atmosphere and then hit MGM and Epcot on Sunday and Monday.

We will start our drive home early on Tuesday, Feb 22nd and get home late in the night and be ready to start our work week on Wednesday.

We did this type of trip a couple of years back over the Labor Day weekend and it is one of the best trips we had taken as it was completely spur of the moment and unplanned.

I know the parks will be crazy as it is Presidents Day weekend but I just have an uncontrolable desire to be there.

So, am I nuts to be doing this? Anyone else ever do these kinds of quick trips?

Counting the days!!!!

Go for it! I haven't done that spurr of the moment drive from NY - although we did one close to that. (we stop overnight tho)

I agree, that those quick little tide-you-over trips are some of the best!

I do it all the time, and I live in Massachusetts!!!! (although, ahem...sometimes I fly) No problem with the spontenaiety,--I'm worried though about your return trip. Will you have help driving home? You'll probably be zonked come Wednesday.

Glad I'm not the only crazy one out there that would take a trip like this. The kids think we are going to Washington DC for the long weekend but we will just keep driving. I'll see how long it takes for my 15 year old son to realize we drove right thru DC.

My wife will also drive as needed so I will be able to get a quick nap on the way down and on the way home but she will not drive in the dark so it is usually my job to pull the overnight portion of the trips.

We've done spur of the moment trips.

CO WORKER: What are you doing this weekend?
Me: Going to WDW... See you Tuesday!

But we have never driven from PA, we've always flown.

Geez. . . . initially my thoughts were quick trips are great! My DW and I just did a two day trip and did one day at WDW (hitting 3 parks - no AK - and seeing pretty much everything we wanted including about 4 times on TOT and RnR, 3 times on Space Mountain, 2 times on Test Track and Mission Space, every Fantasyland ride that was open, Buzz twice, etc.)
But a drive that long over President's Day? I think off season trips like that are better because the park hours are shorter and you have the evenings to relax. You sound like you're likely to be in the parks very late . . . but if you don't mind the lines and you think you can handle the drive back (safety is key) any trip to WDW is worth it!

We have done the same thing 2 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great time!!!!!!! ::MickeyMo :cheer2:

We just did this in Oct., we stayed three nights and did the driving. It was fun, had done it before. Go for it.

Those kinds of trips can sometimes be the best ones!

Yes, you may be tired when you get back home but the memories of a great time with your family can keep you going until you catch up with your rest. I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Left last Wednesday morning and returned (sob!) on Sunday. Going again on April 1! Luckily it's just a 6 hour drive for us. We were actully going to go on Thursday but decided after our ice storm to go one day early. Glad we did, the temperature was quite chilly on Friday but we were still able to walk onto everything with minimal lines.

Just remember that it is Daytona 500 Weekend, so the traffic down I95 to I4 at Daytona is NASTY! Unless you hit that area early morning (6am), you might want to consider an alternate route. We always drive down for Presidents week and got caught in the Traffic Jam there, you can be stuck for hours!

Since you asked... yes, you are nuts. Too much driving and too many people for an enjoyable trip. But since you've done it before and know what to expect, sounds like you'll have a good trip. Enjoy!

 We did the same thing last year except it was just me and DD9. My DH had to go away on business. So I decided on monday to go on friday. I got great last minute deals. Left at 3:00 am friday didn't tell DD where we were going and drove straight through, from Burlington Vt 22hrs. and the funny thing is I wasn't even tired when we got there! We had a blast! It was our shortest trip but DD sill talks about it!!!

We have the good fortune of having only a 3.5 hour drive. So, often, we head up after work on Fridays and head back home on Sunday evenings. Sometimes we decide on Friday. WDW often will offer remaining available rooms on Florida resident rates on the day of arrival. Quick trips are great. Absolutely do it. Heck, we're flying out to CA for a three day weekend in a couple of months.
