Hi Folks,

Just the 2 of us, coming in next Tuesday(!) to SNA- from what I can tell, easiest and most economical is check for a Uber/Lift or just hop in a cab?
Thanks so much! Usually planning for a bigger group.

Cabs are so much easier as they allowed to be curbside. And now with surge pricing etc, can sometimes be cheaper or the same as Uber and Lyft

Are there normally taxi vans readily available? We normally take Uber but I am bringing my parents this time and need more seats.

Yes, taxi vans are available. If there are none at the curb, the Dispatcher will call for one.

Both cabs and Uber are available fairly close. I always pull up the Uber app while heading out of the airport and see what the rate is saying. Then you can walk over to a cab and ask them their price to your destination. Seems like the taxi companies have had to get more competitive so the prices are pretty close. Should be around $30-40 from SNA to DL area.

Just as an FYI - the taxi we took charged us $60.00 from SNA to the hotel (9am on a Saturday with very low traffic) which was a little sketchy to us since we didn’t see a meter. I was expecting slightly less and not such a flat number and probably should have questioned but wasn’t thinking. I’m not sure how it could have been manipulated or if it even was but it was just odd to us.

The Uber XL we took back charged $43 (4pm on a Tuesday) so YMMV. You may want to check multiple options before deciding.

I’m still trying to decide if the extra $$ charged for the taxi was worth it. It’s nice coming out and getting right in, but if you have 4 checked bags and 3 people they will have you shoved into the back of a small sedan and not a minivan if it’s the next one in line. That wasn’t a comfy ride lol

The couple of times in the last few years that I have given in to the temptation to use a legacy cab instead of Uber/Lyft, I have always regretted it. Not much recourse if you think you have been overcharged, or if the driver used an inefficient route, and you have better safety with Uber when your location is being tracked in real time and there is an emergency button on the app. And often the reason someone drives a legacy cab is that they are unable to pass the Uber/Lyft background check.

This was our experience too. We tried to get an Uber, but I couldn’t get a ride to connect (maybe bad cell service with my carrier?). So we walked back to cabs and it was much more than I expected.

Going back to airport, we were all ready to use Uber. We secured one and it literally drove up to our hotel, saw us (2 adults and a 7 year old with two small bags) and cancelled and drove off. It was frustrating! We got another, but it was not a great experience (drove really fast, didn’t say a word to us, wouldn’t even pop the trunk for our bags- we had to ask).

So I guess my answer is that it’s all bad, LOL.
