QUICK thoughts ... Should I go DLH for $129?

Okay ... so, we have family in SoCal, about an hour from the parks. We're going this weekend, and I had been looking for a budget hotel to stay at for less than $60, (clean and close ... either w/in walking or having a free shuttle). Tried Priceline with no luck. Was planning on the dreaded 'commute.'

Have a couple of hotels we are still looking at ...

Then on Expedia today, the DLH came up at $129, which is not as great as mid-week AP rates, but seems to be a very good rate for the DLH (for a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night).

PP is $119, but only available for the first two nights.

So ... now I'm tempted. We stayed at the GCH for the 17th ... a TOTAL splurge, and decided to do APs and do several visits this year, but planning to keep on a budget.

Advantages: EE on Saturday and Monday (right?) Can come and go to the parks easily. Much more relaxing than most other options (we'll spend a lot more time in the hotel than if we stay anywhere else).

Disadvantages: Cost ... and we may start feeling like on property is our only choice

Of course, we have to decide right now! Maybe two nights ... but then we miss one day of EE.

Anyone have any thoughts to tip us one way or the other?

$129 is a killer deal for DLH! I'd take that one. I'd love to catch that deal in December.

Well, $129 sounds like a good rate to me. I've been a cranky AP holder this past year....not seeing the kind of rates we used to get.....but I can understand with the 50th they can get more $$ for the rooms. The cheapest I've ever gotten DLH was $99 on expedia (pre tax/fees) and that was probably two years ago.

I'd say go for it, as long as the $$ isn't too big of an issue. I honestly don't think we're going to see rates any lower than that with some rare exceptions.

I'll be there this weekend too. Driving over Friday afternoon for a five night stay, using left over time share points and staying at Peacock Suites. It will be the farthest I've every stayed from the park entrance.....one mile. I know what you mean about the Grand Californian splurge. I've stayed there four times and it's hard to be happy anywhere else. I always make some time to hang out there on every trip (besides eating at Storytellers.....a mandatory dining esperience). If you can't do the GC, Disneyland hotel is the best second choice ::yes::

So ... here's our plan. We can get the rate even just staying Saturday night and Sunday.

I called, and if we show up really early on Saturday morning, we can get our room keys, leave our bags with Bell Services, and take advantage of EE on Saturday, then stay Saturday and Sunday night, and take advantage on Monday too!

We'll stay Friday night with family (and actually not stay very late Friday at the park, so we can get to bed early on Friday), then drive over early. But that will save about $125 (taxes/fees are $23/night ... but gas back and forth will be about $25).

This will let us splurge a little, but not take quite as much a hit to the pocket book.

You can look for our family of 5 with matching shirts (red one day, blue another, I love NY another) and likely the golden ears. (Hey ... can we get a Golden Ear Smiley?) :earboy2:

I think Expedia has the special - if you stay four nights, the fourth night is free. So maybe you might want to stay longer????

Well, too late to try the 4th night free ... oh well.

We did do the 2 night stay. It was a great experience. I probably won't do it again this year, with two on-site stays already, but for a chance to expereince it, it was great, and it was SOOO convenient with little ones.

Oh, whoa! $129 for DLH! I would have gone for it in a heartbeat! That's great! GC is another I'd love to stay over at one of these days. As it is, we go there a lot for the food!
