Our whole week in the World, in one post - with time stamps!
I copied most of this directly from my phone notes, so please forgive any typos.
When: Sun, 2/28–Sat, 3/6 (park days Monday-Friday)
Who: Me, hubs, G&H (twin daughters turning 5 during the trip)
Where: Caribbean Beach Resort (For notes on our stay at CBR, see this post.)
Sunday, 2/28 – Travel Day
As a commando tourist, I have never done these midday hotel breaks, but I so appreciated them this trip. For one thing, it kept my small children from getting worn out, and I enjoyed the rest as well, which kept ME from burning out. Also, the skyliner made midday breaks so easy!
Did not get to MFSR or Slinky Dog but look forward to prioritizing those rides on a future trip when girls can ride too!
Tuesday - MK
I’ve been to Disney during slow and busy times and have to say that by 10 am crowds felt busier than a slow time, but not packed. More like a normal crowd during moderate busy times. The waits though, are pretty crazy. Combination of social distancing on rides and fewer things to do/see.
At this point, I started noting the posted wait time (WDW) and the Touring Plans (TP) estimate, to compare to actual wait.
They are very strict about masks in the hub. CMs are stationed there clearly for the exclusive purpose of policing masks. Totally understandable. HOWEVER – no need to be rude! We took a picture of our girls eating cotton candy with the castle in the background, and a CM ran up to us and said, with dramatic pantomiming gestures and a deliberately condescending tone like we were small children, “Masks off while actively putting food in our mouths, not while smiling at a camera.” I get it. They probably deal with hundreds of people each day, but there's no need to be rude. I thought we were following the rules. My kids were literally eating cotton candy in the picture and not even looking at me. If that’s a loophole, my bad, but the CM could have been nicer.
***Both TS meals so far, server specifically said you can take your mask off when seated at the table. Put on when standing up and moving around. As a courtesy, we kept ours on until drinks arrived, but I thought this was noteworthy due to all the buzz about the "masks while seated" clarification in Disney's dining policy.
FOP only a 35 minute standby in middle of the day. While walkways feel crowded, this proves how low park attendance must really be! If not with my kids, I would ride this over and over again.
I did not used to think this, but under current circumstances, with low attendance and less to see and do, AK is a true half day park. We were super relaxed at this park. If we had hustled and not stopped to linger or wander, we could have ridden dinosaur, EE twice and even Avatar twice and STILL left around 2pm. AK is still my favorite, though. I could hang out there all day.
In the mornings, it seemed times were shorter than either Disney’s posted time or Touring Plans estimates. By afternoons, the waits seemed longer than even posted time and far longer than TP.
On Thursday, we had canceled a 5pm dinner res at the Wave on this day, in anticipation of being burned out and in favor of a leisurely last night of swimming and packing. It turned out to be a good call, but I look forward to trying the Wave again in the future.
Not much social distancing in lines today. Social distancing in line is harder at MK where there seem to be larger groups/families who can’t fit in a line (or even between them!)
Realized late last night that I had been counting on taking Skyliner to Riviera for breakfast without realizing Skyliner did not go to Riviera that early! Ugh! Fortunately, the walk turned out to be only 10 minutes from our room to Riviera entrance, then another 5 minutes navigating the hotel. Lots of hallways in this resort!
Lines/Crowds:

Sunday, 2/28 – Travel Day
- 5:25 pm - plane touchdown
- Bathroom & luggage
- 6:00 - in line for magical express
- Mobile ordered Centertown on bus for 7:00-7:30
- 6:50 – ME dropped at Coronado 1st
- 7:00 - Riviera 2nd
- 7:05 – Arrived at CBR!
- Straight to room
- Centertown Market dinner (For quick takes on all of our dining experiences, see this thread.)
- Bought cereal & milk for room in gift shop
- Warm night. Pool is packed. NO ONE in masks in entire pool area except lifeguard. Young people on the beach also not in masks.
- 7:00 am – Boarding Group FAIL! - after clicking the second "join," I got some screen with a general description of the ride instead of the "select your party" page. Since I didn’t know what to expect, I was scrolling for the next Join button and wasted time.
Backed up and clicked join again; this time I got the party page, but it was too late. I saw later on these boards that someone else experienced a glitch on this morning, so I think it was the app, not operator error.
- 7:15 – Kingdom stroller pickup.
- 7:20 - skyliner cars moving. I panicked (learned later that these cars are always moving early, even if not loading)
- 7:37 - in line for skyliner
- 7:48 - started loading
- 7:52 – on skyliner
- 5 minute ride to DHS
- 8:00 - end of line waiting to get in (estimate crowd ahead of us was 200 people.) Another line later formed to the right of ours, at a different tent, and they were let in at the same time as us, which was annoying, since those of us at the back of our line arrived before those at the front of the second line.
- Standing in sun is brutal. So glad we brought 3 masks per person per day to swap out as masks got hot or damp with sweat. This worked out great!
- Not the most comfy on face, but 32 degrees cool masks amazing when in hot sweaty sun. *This was my note from the first day. The 32 degrees cool masks ended up being our daily go-to. They whisk moisture, so they are cool AND they stay dry. I cannot recommend these enough! You can get them at Costco, and they come in kid size!
- 8:20 - through taps tiles
- 8:25 - in line for MMRR, constantly moving
- MMRR
- TSMM
- 9:00 – in line for Alien SS (rode twice! – didn’t make a note of wait, but I think 5 min, then 10?)
- drink/bathroom break/ordered snacks and food for rest of day
- Not sure what time this was, but around midday, our plan started to fall apart. I know we hit the milk stand and Ronto Roasters to try the wrap, then my notes say: “At this point, no rise BG, not willing to wait an hour for MFSR...so went to Muppets and then tried Frozen but didn’t get in so slogged back to GE for lunch.
- Noon – Docking Bay 7
- 12:30 – lunch done but no Droid Depot reservation until 1:00 so walked back out of GE for Mickey Bar.
- Wasting too much time walking in and out of GE. Getting hot and grumpy!!
- At 1:00, got rise BG. Yay!
- 1:00 - Droid Depot
- 2:20 - Oga’s
- Rise group called but ride down. Told we could ride anytime until close.
- 3:00 – back to hotel for a swim break. It’s HOT!
As a commando tourist, I have never done these midday hotel breaks, but I so appreciated them this trip. For one thing, it kept my small children from getting worn out, and I enjoyed the rest as well, which kept ME from burning out. Also, the skyliner made midday breaks so easy!
- 5:55 - back in park
- 6:05 - in line for Rise. Line snaked through backstage of rise. We could see the construction supports behind the mountains and the industrial buildings. Managers in plain clothes checking magic bands. It didn't seem like the line was too long. It was more like a portion of the line was unavailable or something and had to be bypassed.
- Can’t remember what time we got on but off by 6:45.
- 6:55 pm - Closing res for Hollywood & Vine – the first of two disappointing character meals on this trip. see dining report (link above)
- Can’t remember what time we got on the skyliner, but it was open until 9pm, so for two hours following park closing.
Did not get to MFSR or Slinky Dog but look forward to prioritizing those rides on a future trip when girls can ride too!
Tuesday - MK
- Late start due to sleepy/grumpy birthday girls
- Wanted to catch a 7:30 bus to MK. Instead, got to bus stop at 8:10 and JUST MISSED the MK bus.
- 8:20 - on bus (see our CBR resort report, linked above, for notes on transportation. Overall, it was excellent!)
- 8:50 - through tap styles
- 8:55 - all plans go sideways when birthday girls see carousel. Haha! We resign ourselves to a day of lines.
- 9:16 - in line for PP
- 9:35 - off PP / right in line for small
- 20 minute posted. 30 minutes actual
- Ordered food while in line for small.
- Boats half full on small
I’ve been to Disney during slow and busy times and have to say that by 10 am crowds felt busier than a slow time, but not packed. More like a normal crowd during moderate busy times. The waits though, are pretty crazy. Combination of social distancing on rides and fewer things to do/see.
- Got in line for Pooh but changed mind. Cute ride but not worth the wait.
- Observed today that our girls didn’t seem to be enjoying the parks.
**NOTE: This changed by the end of the day and better moods prevailed the rest of the week. I think they were just hot and overwhelmed at the beginning of the week.
- Buffalo tots Friars Nook (me) & Pinocchio’s (hubs, G, H)
- Little Mermaid (maybe 15 minute wait?)
- Barnstormer - can’t recall wait. Long.
Worth it for girls to be brave about a coaster. Hot sun! Need more shade in this line.
At this point, I started noting the posted wait time (WDW) and the Touring Plans (TP) estimate, to compare to actual wait.
- 12:55 - in line for Dumbo (15 WDW, 29 TP estimate) – actual wait less than 10 min
- 1:10 - off Dumbo
- 1:15 - in line for Buzz (40 WDW, 19 TP) – actual wait about 25 min
- 1:44 - off ride
- Main Street:
- Cavalcade
- Looked for food - not much to eat on Main Street. Two TS restaurants and Starbucks. No mobile order or walk up other than popcorn carts on hub. Got cotton candy, drinks and popsicles at hub cart. Sat in one of the manicured garden areas for a little picnic on the grass.
- Shopped until 3pm
- G&H fell asleep in stroller, so we wandered a bit, checking ride times and options
- 3:25 - in line for HM (25 WDW, 23 TP) – actual wait 20 min
- 3:45 - on ride
- Bathroom break
- 4:15 in line for PP 2nd ride (girls picked) – (WDW/TP both say 30 min) – actual wait closer to 35 min
- 4:55 - off ride
- Girls wanted to play with their new stuffies, so found a bench to chill in FL. Hubs checked out FL shops and I looked ahead to plans for the week. Face Timed with the grandparents for happy birthdays.
- 5:35 - BOG dinner. Beast costume is so cool. Wow.
- 6:55 – 5 minutes to park close, went to SDMT (wdw/tp both 45 minutes) but line was craaaaazy long. Walked 3 minutes and stopped. Never found the end of it. Decided to wait until Friday, our next MK day.
- Despite leaving right at close with the masses, caught 2nd bus. Not bad!
- The girls had an absolutely fabulous birthday (once the morning grumpies wore off). So glad we came!
- Hemmed and hawed about rope drop, due to rain and storms. Watched radar for an hour in the morning and decided to go.
- 6:57 - at bus stop Jamaica
- 6:59 - first bus
- 7:15 - pulled in to AK
- DOWNPOUR! – kept littles dry under rain coats and stroller cover. Me and hubs okay with getting soaked. Wish I had a hat, though, as my mask got super wet. Happy to have backup masks. Actually very cool to see Pandora in the rain, like a real rainforest vibe.
- 7:25/7:30 – in line for FOP
- 7:35 – ride open/line moving
- Did rider switch
- 10 minutes of slow walking up to awesome room with vines, then stop and go.
- 8:15 - off ride
- LOVED IT! BREATHTAKING.
- Hubs and kids were on and off Na’vi long before me. Wait at 8:15 was only 5 min but kids didn’t want to go again, so I was fine skipping it. Looked around gift shop and got snacks at Pongu Pongu while hubs rode FOP with his rider switch FP.
- 8:40 - rain stopped and park getting busy
- Placed order for Satu’li lunch later.
- We are ahead of schedule and drying off. Glad we braved the rain!
- 9:20 - in line for Safari (WDW/tp both est about 10 min) – actual wait 12 min
- 9:32 - on ride
- Saw the baby rhino!
- Gorilla Falls
- Popcorn break
- It’s that time of day when things start to go off the rails. Girls getting grumpy. Put them in stroller to nap so we could go on Everest, but one started crying that she wasn’t having fun, which broke my heart, so we headed back toward Avatar to wait for our Satu’li window. Stopped for Starbucks on the way. OF COURSE the girls fell asleep within minutes of rerouting to Pandora, so we headed all the way back to Everest. LOL.
- 11:35 - Everest rider switch and hubs rode first. Did not check apps for wait times.
- 11:54 – both of us on and off ride!
- Pushed our Satu’li window
FOP only a 35 minute standby in middle of the day. While walkways feel crowded, this proves how low park attendance must really be! If not with my kids, I would ride this over and over again.
- 1:00 - done eating at Satuli
- Dinoland for my Dino loving daughter, G
- Walked on to TriceraTop Spin
- Walked around to find all the dinosaurs. Almost got G on Dinosaur, but she got scared at the last second.
- Dinobites for a snack with G&H while hubs spent $5 bucks at a ball toss and scored 3 prizes on one set!! Girls love their small, med, and large Dino stuffies. *If you are keeping track, we have 6 stuffies and two robots at this point. I was started to panic about how to get all our souvenirs home!
- 2:20 – walking out of park.

- 2:47 - bus comes and shouts “dropping off only!” Let’s people off but not on.
- 3:00 – on bus
- Hotel break: Hubs nap, Girls play with all their new toys, I iced my knee and tinkered with plans. Really needed and enjoyed this moment to relax. I NEVER do the hotel break thing. It was really nice to do that this trip!
- 5:15 - Skyliner to Trattoria for dinner. Awesome that the skyliner offers this opportunity to resort hop for meals.
- 5:50 - dinner at Trattoria
- 6:55 - in Skyliner line, right at bottom of ramp. Only a 5 minute wait. Good to beat the Epcot closing crowd!
- Sleep in day but for some reason, whole family up at 6:30 am.
Relaxing morning in room playing with droids.
- 10:00 am - skyliner line at CBR hub is madness. Wrapped around cul-de-sac and out toward street. Not sure if it’s time of day or 2nd day of F&G but definitely going to miss early opening at Epcot.
- 10:10 – passed the “25 minutes from this point” sign
- Total wait to get on skyliner was 27 total minutes, 20 from the 25-min sign
- 10:50 - through tap styles at Epcot
- G&H made us stop at every topiary for a picture. LOL
- 11:10 - in frozen line (wdw 35, tp 24) – actual wait only 15 min
- 11:25 on ride
- Shopped Frozen gift store a looong time
- Got Kid Cot bags. *Note: We did KidCot at a couple of countries, but stopped because it was just… lame? Has it always just been a table you walk up to and collect a card and sticker?
- Anna meet and greet – quick, no wait, but unclear how to handle dots (even CMs seemed confused), so it was a little chaotic.
- Mexico - no line to get in
- Gran Fiesta less than 5 min wait
- Today more hot and sunny than forecasted
- Ate our way around the world!
- Easy to find shady spots to sit... mostly. A few bad apples taking up shady spots without food or drink.
- Mask policing is absent in Epcot. Would be too difficult during a fest where food is such a major component. More people with masks down than up, but because they are actually eating and drinking everywhere, not because they are breaking the rules. It just is how it is with a food fest. (And aren't they all food fests now?)
- Checking wait times periodically and times are lower than this morning. At around 1:00 pm, TP estimates 15 for Frozen, 20 for soarin, and only 22 for TT!
- FAR less crowded than I saw about 10(ish?) years ago at Food & Wine. HOWEVER, by afternoon, crowds were normal for Epcot. Not packed but definitely busy.
- Bummed no Remy this trip. Had my fingers crossed.
- 3:42 - in line for Soarin’ (WDW 30, tp 21) – actual wait was just over 30 minutes
- 4:19 - off Soarin
- 4:22 - in line for Nemo (WDW 10, tp 6) - Actual wait was 15 or 20.
- Looked at a couple aqua exhibits
- 5:08 - in line for SE (WDW 10, tp 8)
- 5:16 - bailed on line when we got to the switchbacks on other side of building. No way was it less than 20 minutes.
In the mornings, it seemed times were shorter than either Disney’s posted time or Touring Plans estimates. By afternoons, the waits seemed longer than even posted time and far longer than TP.
- 5:35 - checked in 5 min late for our 5:30 res @ Biergarten.
- 7:30 - skyliner line all the way across the bridge. I anticipated a 40 minute wait, but it was only about 25.
- 7:54 - on skyliner
- Girls fell asleep in line, so we had to put both sleeping girls on Daddy’s shoulders while mom popped stroller. A little nerve wracking getting in and off the moving skyliner car!
On Thursday, we had canceled a 5pm dinner res at the Wave on this day, in anticipation of being burned out and in favor of a leisurely last night of swimming and packing. It turned out to be a good call, but I look forward to trying the Wave again in the future.
- 7:00 - Joffrey’s coffee (see our post linked above on the CBR thread for more about the awesome room location!)
- Noticed skyliner gate closed but a few people waiting
- 7:45 - at bus stop
- 7:50 - on bus to MK
- 8:07 - off bus
- Park already open!!!
- 8:20 - me and G in line for 7D. Line is back by Little mermaid, on other side of mountain! Not running yet
- 8:23 - ride opens, line moves pretty quickly around mountain with only a couple of stops.
- (Wdw/tp both 15) – that was pretty accurate but was mostly walking time, not waiting time.
- 8:45 off ride
- Hubs and H rode PP during this time (walk on)
- Went to Carousel but closed for a promotional photo shoot.
- Nothing else open but PP & 7D
- 8:50 - Sat outside teacups to wait for 9am open, but ride just returning from a refurb, and CM said at 8:55 that it would be a later opening, maybe 9:30.
- At this point, it felt like we were just pushing the stroller around and wasting our early arrival.
- 9:00 - in PP line (3rd/4th ride of trip!) – did not check estimated wait times, but it was about a 15 min line.
- 9:14 - on PP
- 9:25 - back in line for teacups. Got on next ride but broke down before one complete turn. Got guest recovery FP good for any ride but 7D or PP.
Not much social distancing in lines today. Social distancing in line is harder at MK where there seem to be larger groups/families who can’t fit in a line (or even between them!)
- Stopped for a snack we brought in (leftover breakfast fritter from Joffrey’s)
- Tree House - not as bad as I dreaded, and I got credit for 4 flights of stairs on my Apple watch! LOL.
- 10:20 - in line for carpets -- *Note: this is the only line the whole trip where I got mad. Family not only not staying on their line but actually tried to pass us, since we weren’t filling the space in front of us! ***??!
- Squeaking on this ride is awful. Get the oil can. LOL!
- 10:35 - off magic carpets and in line for Tiki
- 10:55 - in theater
- Bathroom break
- 11:30 - lunch res at Jungle Skipper
- 12:50 – rode Pirates using our guest recovery FP! Feels good to walk by a long line (50+ minutes). I do miss FP+!
- Looked at afternoon wait times and decided we’d had our fill. 25 minute wait for Carousel of Progress?! Time to go! Ha ha.
- Shopped down Main Street.
- Said goodbye to Magic Kingdom. ☹
- Pool time
- Dinner at Centertown
Realized late last night that I had been counting on taking Skyliner to Riviera for breakfast without realizing Skyliner did not go to Riviera that early! Ugh! Fortunately, the walk turned out to be only 10 minutes from our room to Riviera entrance, then another 5 minutes navigating the hotel. Lots of hallways in this resort!
- 8:00 - Topolino’s Terrace character breakfast. Very unhappy with this dining experience. See this post.
- 9:00 - Took Skyliner back to room, changed G into clean/dry clothes and finished packing.
- 10:00 - Stroller drop was easy, then waited for ME
- If taking ME, follow the instructions to arrive early! Our 10:45 bus arrived at 10:40 and was loaded and pulling out at 10:45!!
- Bus back had no assigned seats or distancing and no seatbelts. ME made no other stops. 30 minutes to airport.
- Fast check in and quickly through security. 2 hours to kill at airport.
- MCO is awful today! Every seat in every restaurant and every bench throughout the airport full. Lines for restaurants.
- Restaurant tables spacing normal, no distancing.
- Lots of noses peeking out. Some people walking and pulling luggage with mask completely down under chin. People eating everywhere so masks down. Way worse than Disney!
Lines/Crowds:
- Park attendance is absolutely lower than normal. 35% feels right. Avatar at 35 minutes midday? Come on. That’s definitely low attendance. But fewer shows, restaurants and diversions for sure funnel crowds for a tighter feel.
- Our super zoom shot at MK shows how NOT overall crowded it is. The hub in our photo is nearly empty at midday. Crazy!
- However, there were moments of crowding that seemed to come and go. I have a few photos from Epcot where crowds look like a busy festival usually does.
- When I was in choke points and feeling crowded, I reminded myself of our DL trips a few years ago and those tight walkways where there were actually times you could not move. This was NOTHING compared to that, and I do not look forward to the return of those crowds.
- Short lines at end of night does not seem to apply when parks close early. Lines seemed to explode at headliners as folks hopped in line to squeeze in one more ride at the end of the day.
- Proper line protocol compliance was totally random. Some lines, groups were rigid about the lines. Others, it was like the lines weren’t there. Not much rhyme or reason.
- Hubs got beeped every time through detector, even with zero metal in his bag or on his person. Never figured out why.
- Tons of seniors! And not with families, just seniors/elderly hanging out. Seemed random to me, but maybe it’s Florida retirees just getting out after a year of being stuck inside and celebrating their vaccinations?
- Hand sanitizer make fingers taste bad. Sucks for finger foods or licking fingers!
- Skipped DS bc we can shop and eat anywhere and don’t like to spend our Disney vacation time doing that.
- TP lines app was doing some strange things on our trip, like listing ride duration of BTMRR as 19 minutes??
- Didn’t use my magic band as much this trip. Not at all for food or purchases. Though I did appreciate having it to get into our room when my phone died!
- Mask compliance was excellent, especially considering the heat. CMs will chase people down! I only saw one woman (with an ice pack on her head) not respond, and a whole swarm of CMs went after her! She finally snapped back something that sounded rude, but then I heard the CM giving directions to a first aid location, and she was thanking them, so I think maybe she was experiencing heatstroke.
- I had my own hand sanitizer hanging off my purse, which was great as the hand sanitizing stations were often empty or not working.
- Fixed price meals suck when you have two picky eaters with tiny tummies. We spent literally hundreds of dollars on overpriced, uneaten chicken fingers this trip.
If I could do over, I would limit to just one character meal and the rest of the TS ressies would be a la carte.
- Witnessed 3 cases of parents being physically aggressive with their small children, including a girl crying “Mommy, you’re hurting me!”… while her hand and arm turned red from mom cutting off her circulation with her grip. *Parents, PLEASE be patient with your children! Disney is fun but can also be stressful - for the kids too! While I would never grab my child like that, under any circumstance, I'm glad we took breaks and went slow so that I never even got snappy with my girls. Made it more fun for all of us.
- Skylines car to ourselves! Always! I know I will not enjoy sharing a car with strangers in the future.
- shorter park hours means less pressure to wake up early for rope drop and stay up late for fireworks. Good if you have FOMO like me.
- Our AK half day before a sleep-in day was a game changer. Almost like taking a full day break. Everyone was refreshed and aching or swollen knees/feet were improved. I’ll try to schedule a break like this mid-trip from now on!
- No FP+. I am SHOCKED to be reporting this, as this was nearly the deal-breaker for us on this trip… but speaking for my family only, this was a blessing in disguise. With small kids, it’s tough to stay on a precise schedule and keep appointment times. Pre-planned FP times would have potentially been a disaster for us and extremely stressful at minimum.
- social distancing in theaters makes it easier to see and not snuggle up by strangers. LOL.
- Dinosaur @ AK
- RnR, ToT, MFSR, SDD, Frozen Sing Along @ DHS
- MFSR was a bummer but can ride in Cali when it opens.
- SDD was a big bummer, as I was looking forward to it, but since DHS was our first day, we were too nervous to start the girls with a ride that might make them scared to ride anything else.
- Frozen Sing Along was a bummer for the girls
- BTMRR, Jungle, Splash @MK
- TT @ Epcot
- Overall, I am 100% glad we went.
- The masks were not nearly as bad as I worried they would be. And I *hate* masks.
- I did not miss FP+ as much as I thought I would.
- I really appreciated the social distancing and the occasionally empty walkways. Rare sights in Disney parks nowadays.
- I missed the fireworks but not as much as I expected and was grateful to not burn the candle at both ends.
- We felt safe at all times in Disney World, largely because mask compliance was so excellent. However, we also do not have a fear of catching COVID while weaving through a crowd of people outdoors or standing within 6 feet of others for less than 15 minutes. If these things will make you uncomfortable, do not go. Just wait.
- We had a BLAST.
