Quick Service Rules in Effect:

1) The "no saving tables" rule is in effect.
2) You may not get a table without your food-in-hand.
3) Thus, one guest can't get a table while others stand in the food line.
4) There is a CM that will show your whole party to the table.
5) Once you have your food.

NOTE: The rule includes people who have kids in strollers and want to get a table before they get their food. In fact, in a lot of QS eateries, strollers are now not allowed due to the adding of extra tables cutting available aisle space. THIS IS A GOOD RULE, as it has shown to cut down people waiting for tables when others have hogged them while not eating.

EDIT:
. . . Posters have said they don't care about the rules, and will grab a seat anyway.
. . . This is tough, because WDW already thought about this.
. . . There is ONE entry into the seating area and it is guarded by a CM.
. . . There is a sign stating a CM will show you to your seat.
. . . You cannot get around the CM.
. . . You form a line and another CM then shows you to a table.
. . . A couple with a wheelchair can be seated before food, but not a whole group with one wheelchair.
. . . There are ample people in a group to get food while the wheelchair waits.
. . . This preserves seats for others.
. . . As for strollers, the sign says "No".
. . . There have been accidents with narrow aisles and strollers.
. . . Those who do not wish to follow the rule are politely told they can dine elsewhere.
. . . This has PROVEN to be a very efficient way to get people though a QS eatery.
. . . Like it or not, it is not just the future, but the present.

EDIT2:
. . . People are still complaining about not being able to get-and-save a table.
. . . Where they can sit while someone in their party gets the food.
. . . All this does is tie up a table for someone who could use one.
. . . Kids or no kids, this is inconsiderate of others.
. . . It might sound crass, but if kids are tired and fidgety, maybe they needed a break earlier.
. . . Asking others to wait with their kids because yours are tired and grumpy is simply rude.
. . . I know folks who work at PB's, CR's and TT's, and they all love the rule when it is used.

EDIT3 (12/1/10):
. . . MrsRustyScupper works at several QS at MK
. . . Since this was implemented three weeks ago, there have been GREAT reviews
. . . People actually volunteer how much easier it is to get a table now.
. . . They do not have to walk around looking for an open spot.
. . . For the nay-sayers, I think they have to try it before passing judgment.
. . . Sure, some may feel inconvenienced by not being able to grab a seat without their food.
. . . But, overall, it seems to be received with good favor.
. . . A few extra minutes standing with the kids beats walking/searching around with a full tray.

Interesting. When did they start this rule?

1) They first did a trial two years ago.
2) Last year they used it during busy times.
3) They have used it a lot this year.
4) Currently in effect at
. . . Pecos Bill's
. . . Cosmic Ray's
. . . Electric Umbrella

NOTE: There may be other places in effect, but these are the one of which I am aware. As an example, the Pecos Bill "Sheriff" stops you from entering without food and then shows you to your table after you get your grub.

I'm glad to see this is back in effect. It is very frustrating to have trays full of food, with 2 little kids in tow, walking past tables being "held" by people not eating. By the time their family members come back with their food, we could have sat down, eaten, and left.

Universal did this at their Three Broomsticks CS in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. When times are busy, it is such a life saver and keeps you from doing balancing acts with your food and kept people from hovering over us while we were eating, waiting to pounce on our table as soon as we were done. Much more relaxing this way!:thumbsup2

I realize the two "camps" on this issue will never see eye to eye, but I won't be following this "rule" unless I am forced by a CM right in my face. And even then I will politely but firmly object.

I refuse to wander around with a tray of food without the guarantee of a seat. I don't trust a CM working there to find me one. I don't want to carry my full tray for a long time looking for one--I prefer to make a beeline for my preselected table. I do not wish to have to go back for condiments/utensils or have to try to collect them while balancing my tray.

I do not wish to have the ordering/pickup area cluttered with a bunch of extra people and their stuff. One swing of an overloaded dad with a diaper bag would clear my tray no problem. I do not want to try to carry my tray plus my day bag and any shopping bags.

I'm not fronting my money to a restaurant without a seat in hand (or behind, as the case may be).

I hate this "rule" and will use every civil means at my disposal to avoid being subject to it.

I don't object to this if it is run as well as it is at 3 Broomsticks. There they had a number of staff to help. The place is set up to be staffed by seaters and clearers. You just can't get around the system. They carried the trays for us. Settled us at our table and cleared up when we finished. The tables were all nice and clean and it was really relaxing for a QS experience. The way it seems like it works at WDW is just 1 or 2 crazed CM's arguing with people ;)

Guess you can brown bag it. I think it will make getting a seat easier. Hope you don't mind when the CM seats us at your "saved table." The rest of your family will be seated by the CM :rotfl2:

I generally will not eat at a place unless we have a table. Gambling on one will not cut it with a 2 and 8 year old.
Also, one of us usually takes the DD2 to sit down and be busy instead of being her wild stuff in line. HAHA love to see how they take her tearing up the place. Generally, we do not eat at those places mentioned.:rotfl2:

Don't knock it before you experience it. I think that if the cast members seat people with food, chances are enough tables will turn around faster than trying to find a table with food in hand.

Since I travel solo often enough for it to matter, I don't have the luxury of having a "table holder". If I passed 5 or 6 tables with one occupant holding it, I would be very frustrated.

If this system is run efficiently, I believe it could benefit everyone.

So what happens to the family member (me) who cannot carry food trays? I have no reason to be in line because someone else will get my food. I'm entrusted with the acquisition of napkins, straws, and condiments.

Huh? How are you wandering around under this new system carrying your own tray? Can you at least try it first without the promise of civil disobedience? That is like standing at the fast pass line without a fast pass demanding entrance, because you paid for a park ticket. They are trying to be helpful? I do not understand how someone trying to be helpful is bad? OK I will step back and see what others opinions are. I like it !!

:thumbsup2 This will be my last post on this thread, I promise. But we are all standing all day long everywhere practically at WDW. Why would it be any different or more bothersome in the food line? If my child is running around tearing up a place then I have something to work on....come on folks, evidently there is a problem and they are trying to fix it.

I like this rule too. I have seen it in action more than once and it really helps. There are 3 of us and we could sit and "save" a table if we wanted to but I have never felt right about it.

I once left an 8 year old at a table while I went up to get her food, and came back to find all the chairs gone, my coat & backpack on the floor and the child in tears (thanks to a large group of under-supervised youths of whom I dare say no more). After that, even if I had been inclined to leave her alone at a table, she would've refused.

It's all well and good for folks with large parties to declare their "right" to indefinitely take up table space and chairs, but for the rest of us who don't have that luxury, it's about time! Having CMs oversee it will finally free us from the food-court/CS bullies. If you're not eating, you shouldn't be taking space away from people who are ready to. And if people traveling solo or single adults with children manage to carry a tray and get their condiments, I'm sure with a little remedial training you can learn to do it too.

And next week, when I'm traveling with another adult who could "save" a table, I'll happily pass that up for this rule. I just want a place to eat - I have no interest in staking a claim & making life difficult for other people in the process. *I* am not that selfish.

Excellent!

I hope during busy times they are also stopping tables in the CS restaurants from being used as picnic tables with food brought into the parks and keeping thme for the guests buying food..

I hope they allow for exceptions. My mom is in a wheelchair and cannot push herself and I cannot handle pushing her and carrying a tray, obviously. And she definitely does not have the strength to hold the tray herself. I usually park her at a table and get in line. Of course, we don't do CS during busy times because she has trouble communicating under pressure (she gets agitated and its hard for her to talk). We don't get a GAC since she's in the chair in the parks, but if this is a permanent thing, we might have to get one for her I guess.

This should make for an interesting time next month.

Toddlu-
Oh, how EASY to judge. :rotfl2: You hear about the children that wander away from their homes? Well, my two year old daughter can unlock doors and has a lot of energy. SHE is two flippin years old. How much have we worked on? Well, a lot. Such as getting her out of everyone's way and having her focus on something at a table. I'm just saying you must be blessed with wonderfully behaved children and don't for one second believe it is because at the age of two you had taught them everything they needed to know. That is why they can't sit at a movie theater and other such things because they are TWO!

If lines moved steadily enough I'm sure we could entertain her in line. I'm saying what we usually do with her, but I'm not opposed to new solutions otherwise I wouldn't be typing on this here laptop ;)

I guess I will be standing there holding my two babies by myself without the stroller while my husband taker care of the food:confused3. Actually if this is the rule WDW can count my money out. If I can't sit at a table while my husband purchases the food then I will have no problem brown bagging it. We will be there in May. Will see if this is still in effect.
