Quick Service in DHS

Thanks for the replies everyone. From your comments I think we will probably play it safe with Pizza Planet - I mean how can you mess up a pizza! I just wish it was as easy to pick a CS as it is a TS - we know exactly which restaurants we're going to eat at.

We are planning on one day at DHS, but it was my hardest day to plan meal-wise. I finally decided on Starring Rolls and Pizza Planet (only because we didn't hit this park last time and I think my kids will like it.) I expect the pizza at PP to taste a lot like the pizza we had at PVH in fantasyland last year. I ate it but it wasn't very good. I was expecting something like a Tony's singles frozen pizza, but the pizza at PVH wasn't even that good.

I agree that ABC commissary is just plain yuck... we've tried it numerous times. I wish there was a smiley face throwing up... :lmao:

Starring Rolls!

It's a tiny place, but well worth finding. They have large deli sandwiches and outrageous desserts. If you are on a dining plan you get a sandwich, chips or fruit, dessert and drink. The sandwiches are huge and fresh and the desserts are to die for!

Love love love Starring Rolls, gorgeous desserts especially the 'Breeze from the Keys' - I could really go one right now.

Is it feasible to (quickly) leave DHS for lunch at a resort? Similar to leaving MK for Poly or the Contemporary? Is there anywhere in the Boardwalk area to eat, or is that not as close as it appears on the map?

Thanks!!

It would be about a 20 min walk or you could take the boat over to one of the resorts. I guess it depends on what you mean by "quickly". Seems to me, it would take more than an hour to get over there, eat, and get back. But you could view it as some "down time" in your day. Take a leisurely boat ride, enjoy your lunch and take the boat back. Instead of going back to your hotel for a nap or a swim, you've just had your break! Check allearsnet.com for menus for the counter service places over there. It looks like it's mostly sandwiches, soup, and salad.

I wouldn't... there is not much over there for counter service and would probably take a good 1 - 1:15. We're planning on just eating at DHS.
If I were to take the boat over to BW I would probably switch boats once at Boardwalk area to epcot boat and go into the back entrance of Epcot to grab some food. Englands Fish & chips is right by the back exit/entrance.

Someone told me starrig roles is awesome. I'm wanting to try the butterfingers cupcake!

We always end up eating at Pizza Planet. Its nice to be able to sit in the air conditioning and relax a bit. And we always pile into the photo booth to have our pictures taken. The pizza is pretty good (the kids love it) and it comes with a salad if you are an adult on the DDP. Best pizza in the world, no. But decent. And its right across from Muppets 3-D movie and near the restrooms.:3dglasses

Would have written exactly the same stuff - right on!

Try to do HS on an am emh day - boat to Beaches & Cream for a late lunch around 2pm, then hop (walk or boat) over to Epcot for evening and late dinner

If you have to choose a CS at DHS, then Pizza Planet or Backlot. If you are staying on property & can wait, I would eat back at the resort.

I think the poster was looking for Counter service. :confused3

Yes, appears the OP was looking for CS - sorry

Revised idea (if you can hop) would be to boat from HS to Epcot and do the late lunch there? Epcot has great CS variety - especially compared to DHS. You can get alot done at HS by 2pm if you get there early and take advantage of am emh.

This is NOT an endorsement of any counter service restaurant, more of a suggestion for a plan. We go to Rosie's and take the food and drink into Fantasmic early, eat the sandwiches and it helps with the wait. They aren't great burgers, but they are ok. This helps to pass the time and helps prevent the want to "snack" while waiting.

Starring Rolls has great sandwiches and desserts. It is run by the same people as the Hollywood Brown Derby.

Great suggestions everyone, apart from Starring Rolls the options aren't great - it may be an idea to get the boat to Epcot or else get a lunch ressie at 50s PT or Sci Fi - we'll see.

We always end up at Pizza Planet.... We happen to really like it though so it doesn't bother us!
