Financially need to sell DCV at this time--do I contact DCV first--or try to find a "seller" to sell my points?

And our points are from 1992--maybe a hard sell. IF I can't sell, how do I terminate the contract so we don't pay the annual fees???

Your points will be the same as any others as far as value to the buyer-I assume you have OKW? DVC is selling like hot cakes right now, at high prices. I’ve never sold, but folks here seem happy with the timeshare store.

No need to contact Disney first. They will either direct you to their preferred reseller or offer you a price that is a LOT LESS than what you can get on the open market. Contact one of the resale brokers and they will walk you through the process. There are many resellers out there that specialize in DVC. Our sponsor has a good reputation.

I sincerely doubt you will have trouble selling. Since you bought in 1992, you may even net more than you originally paid. Check the ROFR threads to get an idea of what OKW points currently sell for. Good luck!

Sorry you need to sell.

Contact a broker. They’re like a realtor when you sell a house. DVC won’t help you, nor do they need to be involved until you have a signed contract with a buyer.

The older resorts are still valuable. If you bought in 1992, you’re looking at a nice profit. You might need to have someone help with the tax implications next year.

DVC Resales are selling extremely well and at prices higher than in the past. You will have no problem selling your DVC and most likely at a higher price that you purchased in 1992.

This is good news--who would have thought? OF course these points expire relatively early, so I thought that would make a difference---?

Definitely don't just offer to turn the contract back over to DVC. If you purchased in 1992 you are paid off and will be able to sell it for more than you bought it for with the prices as high as they are now. You do not need to contact DVC.

Here's links to a couple of reputable brokers and there are others too

Each of these brokers have pages showing their current listing so you can see what contracts are currently priced at and get an idea before contacting anyone about selling.

Depending on your financial situation selling maybe your better option, but if covering the maintenance fees is your issue you could rent your points with one of the big DVC rental companies and net $13+ per point allowing you to easily cover the maintenance fees and pocket a little bit while holding onto the contract to use in the future.

Hope things workout for you, but with popularity of Disney and DVC you do have options.

I agree with renting for many such situations. As to whether to sell directly or through a broker, it depends. If you have a buyer, maybe a friend or acquaintance, that may be best. It can save both of you about 5% roughly. I presume you don't have a small contract since the minimum buy in then was likely 230, 210 or 190. If you had under 100 it also might be worth offering on your own. For most situations I'd sell through a broker.

You are about to net yourself a circa $8000 profit over what you originally paid, (and get all your original outlay back) congratulations.
A little less after taxes but they also got free tickets for 8 years. Those were the days when the break even in 3-4 years could be a reality, no longer, it's more in the 20 year or above range today.

LIke I said--amazing!! We did get free Park Tickets--I forgot about that!!

And when we bought there was just the Vacation Club--OKW didn't even exist AS OKW.. in fact, it was only half completed.

Now look----

One thing to point out is that clearly OKW or BWV bought early is not a good representation of likely future expectations on returns or value. They clearly underpriced them early on, boy that sure has changed.

There was still a lot of value in resale up until a year ago.... my Jan 2017 SSR resale will literally pay for itself in 3 trips, and it’s gone up 25% in a year. Unprecedented resale growth this year. My direct contract though..... not so much!

Disney definitely didn't expect DVC to be as successful as it ended up being. During the sales tour my parents took in early '92, their guide told them Disney would be happy if they got 10,000 members.:rotfl2:

Just my two cents to the original poster, if there is concern about paying off the dues for this upcoming year, try renting out the points right away to take care of that obligation before selling. DVC contracts may be commanding high prices, but they are not a liquid asset and may take awhile to sell.

Yep. And they "over-sized" them at first as well--the OKW units are quite a bit larger than the DCV resorts that followed.

I look at it the other way, I feel they simply undersized the rest. When I compare to other top Orlando timeshares, many of which are better than DVC in certain ways, this is one of the points I make.
