We returned last night from a great week at the Beach Club. Here are a few thoughts:

Check-in: No lines at 1:00 on a Saturday, went very smoothly. Art was there to greet us. Room was not ready until 2:30.

Room: Fabulous news and bad news here. Ww were SO LUCKY to get room 4559, water view, fourth floor, between lobby and the quiet pool area, on the end of a wing overlooking Boardwalk, the lagoon, Swan and Dolphin, and the quiet pool. Also had a full balcony! Most certainly one of the finest views in all of the Beach club. I cannot tell you how much this added to our whole vacation experience. It was beautiful waking up to it with the sunrise, and magical at night with all of the lights and the top of the fireworks from Illuminations. We slept with the slider open (bugs were non-existent!).I had requested only non-smoking, upper floor, lake view on my reservation, and did not fax any requests. The CM told us at check in we would be very happy with it, and he was right. We had two queen beds, a day bed, a desk with a chair, and it was definitely recently redone. Everything seemed new in the room, and we could tell the outside was freshly painted also. Looking at the building from the lagoon, I could tell there really aren't that many great views with the scaffolding(which we could't see) , so we felt very fortunate.
OK the bad news: right when we walked in, we were hit with an overwhelming smell of SMOKE!!! YUCK!! It was very strong, and it smelled awful. My DH hates the smell of old cigarette smoke, and he immediately said "no way am I staying here all week". Naturally, I was crushed, as it really did reek but the room was awesome. To make a very long story short, we went back and forth with the front desk many times, but the only other rooms they had available did not have the great view or had smaller beds, etc. I also asked about suites, etc. but each person I talked to said they were all booked, even at the YC (I would have paid the extra). I do believe them because everyone I talked to said the same thing. They were not happy because they all said that was a designated non-smoking room, but apparently someone had smoked in it. HOwever, our room did not have the little "no smoking" sign over the door handle.....Hmmmm.... Anyway, they came in and changed all of the linens right down to the mattress pads, deep cleaned the rugs, and did the "OZONE " treatment two days in a row. It did help a good amount, but the smell lingered slightly for the rest of the trip.
I have to say the EVERY SINGLE CM we talked to about this problem was genuinely nice, friendly, and really tried to help us out.

I need to go, but will be back with MORE!

Thats a real shame about the room. You were brave to stick out the smell. I couldnt have done it. Glad you enjoyed your stay anyhow.:D

That really is ashame when people ignore rules because they think it does not apply to them!!
Glad you still had a great time though!! :)
how was stormalongbay?? Was it over crowded?? how aboutthe parks??
Isnt Art great??!!! He realy puts a smile on our faces!!!(that is the thing we miss when we stay on the Yacht side!

Sorry about the smoke.....glad everything else was great

Welcome home!!!
Was the scafolding for painting or repairs...could you tell???
Wondering if this is a long term thing or might be gone by our Oct trip????

I'm glad that you had such a great trip! :D :D How bad is the scaffolding at BC? Is it pretty extensive? Your room sounds awesome! Did you reserve a waterview? How crowded was YC/BC and the parks? We'll be there shortly!!:D :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

WDW4us2003~ We had a similar experience last year. Our room smelled badly of old smoke even though it was a non smoking room. They did switch our room since others were available.
Glad you stuck it out and had a great trip.:D

They have sensors for controlling the air conditioning. Now if someone could come up with a sensor to detect smokers. I'm thinking of one that would have a hose attached and would hit the smoker full blast. That person would be rich.

To answer your questions:

The scaffolding was not a problem at all. You can read about it on the other "BC scaffolding" post or on my other BC report thread. I was worried about it too, but it was no big deal. It wall not interfere with your room or view. They even frost over the lobby and hallway windows so you can't look out and see it in the areas they are working in. I do believe it will be done by October, only because I heard someone say that when we were there. It looks like most of the hotel has been redone, both inside and out.

Yes, I did reserve a water view. I think it's a great room to request, if its possible in slower times. Hopefully the smell will be gone by then, but who knows what will happen?

I also wanted to mention a thing about housekeeping. Most of time our requests were met (extra towels, etc.), but I am not sure how extensively our room had been cleaned in between guests. We moved an ottoman and found sugar packets and HAIR, buttons, tags and lots of dust. Also, the desk hadn't been wiped down, and there was stuff under the dresser. The bathroom was spotless. I can't complain though since everything, including the rugs, were changed or cleaned when they tried to get rid of the smoky smell.

I got a great big smile when I read that Art was there to greet you!
I hope he never leaves the BC. My kids (6 & 5) sooo look forward to seeing and pin trading with him. This last trip we arrived at BCV on Sunday. Apparently Art is off on Sunday and Monday. Boy did he have a welcome committee when he came to work on Tuesday!
Disney had me do an online survey, I told them to double Art's pay.;)

We are staying at the BC for the first time ever! Have always stayed in CBR or Dixie Landings. I've been reading a lot about how you can "request" an upgrade prior to arriving. Some people say to email and some people say to fax. Some say that you should wait until you actually speak to a CM upon check in. Can anyone tell me the "best" way to get an free upgrade. I've booked a standard room. My daughter and son will be celebrating their 15 and 12 birthdays respectively and my husbands Mom just passed away yesterday, so I'd really like to surprise him with this request. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
49 days and counting:D :D
