I can't remember when the seat sale was last year....we went in early December to Orlando and this year we are going to Fort Lauderdale in early December. Right now the flights are $2000 for the three of us whereas AirTran out of Buffalo is $600 US....

Just don't want to spend $2000 on flights now if I don't have much longer to wait for a seat sale...if you remember when they went on sale for Dec, I would love to hear...thanks in advance!!

About two months ago when Air Canada offered some really low prices for travel until December 10th, WestJet came out with the same offer and was also for travel until December 10th. However since then that offer has ended and I have not seen any other deals for December, so maybe you should call them up and see what they say.

Thanks! Wish I had noticed that a couple of months ago - LOL

I didn't think they would tell me about seat sales but it is worth a shot.

Have a nice night.

If history repeats itself... I'm guessing within the next 4-6 weeks. Super discounted for December is usually late August, Sept (if you can wait that long!).

Thanks - this is great - I wasn't really watching last year but I did score a seat sale for last December and I wash't sure when....I will wait for it I think....and if it doesn't happen we can always drive down.

Thanks again, :goodvibes

Sale is on now!! Thanks to all who responded, just called in and booked!! Saved $900 on fares from Toronto. Have a great weekend everyone

When we are planning a trip south during busy times (like our Christmas WDW trip) I always start watching the fares as soon as our dates become available for booking. In fact, this year I put all my data into a simple spreadsheet to track rising/falling and average fares for each of the 3 carriers I was watching. I checked every day at different times each day looking for trends and or great deals.

In the end there were no trends, as such, and the fares were all over the place. A strategy that did pay off is to check flights for one airline through one of their booking partners. We ended up saving $500 per person by booking United fights (from Edmonton) through Air Canada. UA was showing much higher fares at the time.

Getting a good or great fare is just dumb luck. Ours came up at 1:30 AM one day when I was heading to bed and thought I'd have a quick look. I woke my wife up, showed her the price, and all she said is "Hurry, before it's gone!"

So be obsessive, sign up for the airline's emails and be patient, but also be ready to move FAST because there aren't many seats on sale at times.:)

Not sure what your travel dates are but Westjet currently has a bunch of dates in December on sale from 424 per person per direction for 249 - 269 (at least those are the prices from Calgary).

Is there an advantage to using a Canadian carrier? The WJ sale price (thanks for letting us know about it - I wouldn't have thought to check yet!) is $1364 (Canadian, for 4 people) but Delta's regular price is $1257 (Canadian, for 4 people). These prices are out of Edmonton.

Thanks for any thoughts - I've only ever used Canadian carriers.

On previous trips we would book the most cost effective flight which was usually a US carrier.

For the most part we had no issues with the US carriers, with the exception of Frontier Airlines (they changed our departure flight which woulld have had us overnighting in Dallas and arriving a day later - all at our own cost).

It was at that point we decided that to us it was worth the extra expense to travel with Westjet. I personally prefer Westjet because they have the direct flight, individual tvs, larger and comfier seats, plus I have never encountered anything but great reliable service from them.

There are some seat sales right now... or there was some on the weekend. They were discounted about $400 each way from Calgary ($649 down to $249 plus tax).

Not sure if they are still available... but they normally do another round in August.

Sale pricing is up today, valid until December 16th. WestJet is saying Dec 17th and beyond is going to be high season, so don't expect any great discounts after the Dec 16th date.

Also, the new fare guarantee is in effect if you buy your seats in the next little while. Details are on the WestJet site...
