Hi all - I apologize if this has been answered a million times (I looked on the DDP FAQ, but didn't see it on the list). Am I correct in understanding that you cannot order the DDP through a AAA package? That you cannot get a discounted Magic Your Way package through AAA?

It seems that if you want DDP, and don't have a pin, there is no way to get a discount? Is that true?

Thanks!!

I booked through AAA and they took care of everything. I dont have the DDP, I am still considering it, but I was told when I decide if i want it all I have to do is call AAA. Hope this helps:)

no you arent going to get a package through AAA. but you can book your room and tickets through them and then call disney and have the DDP added.

i think the confusion is with the free dining, you can not get the free dining through an outside discount service.

:cool1: :hippie: We got te DDP thru AAA the last 4 times, but if you get the free DDP you do not get the room discount.

I also booked with the DDP through AAA for our trip in Aug. 06. The price was great! We ended up saving around $200.00.:thumbsup2

Oh my gosh, thank you!! I guess I am totally confused and not sure why because I'm addicted to these boards, lol. No, I'm not looking for free DDP, we're going in March.

I already have a room only booked through Disney (wanted to make sure I got a ressie) so what I should do is book room and tickets through AAA, I can add the DDP to that later if I want to, and then cancel my room only reservation?

I honestly had no idea you could do DDP with AAA. I swear I read somewhere that you couldn't, that you had to have a Magic Your Way package through Disney to get it. I'm so excited!!

It may have changed since we did it in 2006, but I would definately ask AAA. We booked as a package with DDP.:thumbsup2

To book a WDTC package, using a AAA discount, you will need to book the entire package through AAA.
No pieces through Disney, and some through AAA.
Disney will sell you items separate, minus a dining plan. To book with a dining plan and use AAA, you must book through AAA.

no you arent going to get a package through AAA. but you can book your room and tickets through them and then call disney and have the DDP added.
This confused me as I either am misunderstanding it, or this is not correct.
Yes, any AAA member can book a AAA package though AAA.
You cannot book room and tickets through AAA and then call Disney to have a DDP added. You can have your AAA agent add DPP to a MYW (room and tickets) package. (Making it a AAA WDTC MYW with Dine package.)

Since you have a room only through Disney (which they can sell with AAA discount) and you want to book a AAA MYW package with dining, you will end up cancelling your room only res with Disney and booking a package through AAA.
You can forget the AAA discount and see if a Disney code comes out and then book a MYW package with dining through Disney, and cancel the room only you already have through them.

Thank you Luv2Roam!! That made a lot of sense.

It seems to me that the smarter strategy is to take the AAA package, though? Isn't the pin/code a huge gamble, and I could lose out on the definitely cheaper AAA package? If a code DOES come out, is it "easy" to cancel the AAA package and switch to that?

I've definitely decided that DDP makes sense for my family, so now I'm just trying to figure out the most discounted way to do this.

This has been so helpful, THANK YOU!

The codes really seem to be a crap shoot.
And you have to consider it all is dependant on availability too.
Unless you are going soon, you should have some time to watch for codes.
And when you are going makes a lot of difference. At some times codes are harder, if not impossible, to find.
I know AAA offices sometimes offer AAA Magic Moments packages too. But I don't know the criteria on those types of packages. But it certainly is something to ask AAA about.
January has been Disney Month at AAA too. Again, I don't know specifically what extra they will offer, if that continues. But again, worth asking.
Also keep in mind a travel agent, such as AAA, will own your reservation. Even if you pay it off. You will not be able to make changes. Your AAA agent will have to on your behalf.
This bothers some. So I just wanted to mention it.
Good luck. :wizard:

We have 6 rooms for 16 people, Magic Your Way Package with ddp - AAA discounts the room about 20% - saving us about 150 to 200 per room for our stay. I received the e-mail code for 20% after we reserved and she could have added it but removed our aaa discount thus it was a wash. she said if I had the 30 or 40% discount then she would drop the aaa discount and add the code discount to the package to save me $. I made all my own adr's and just gave her a list of all our ressie numbers. She also booked the Peter Pan/Capt Hook fireworks cruise for us and added it to the pkg.

on these boards. I have noticed a few lately, Iamthatgirl for one, who do not always have the correct info yet answer questions and create confusion. Her info here is incorrect. You can ONLY book a AAA package (that's room, tickets and DDP) through AAA. Disney can give you the AAA discount on a room only but only AAA can book a package with AAA discount. To get the DDP, you must have a package.

You can book a package through AAA with the DDP and then, if a Disney code comes out that is a better deal than the AAA discount, you can cancel and rebook. If you have a good AAA travel agent, they can do this for you.

Oh, and another piece of incorrect info, you CAN get the Free dining package through an outside agency. You just can't get any other discounts with it. Do you really think Travel Agents can't book Free Dining?

we booked room/tickets/DDP package through AAA for trips in May 2007 and May 2008...worked out wonderfully.

We booked free dining direct through Disney, but only because I wanted to do the on-line booking at the earliest possible moment...which was an hour before the AAA office opened.:rotfl: I could have booked through my TA at AAA...but as others have pointed out, we would have got only the Free Dining, but not the usual AAA room discount. Was glad I went ahead & booked myself, cuz an hour later, the preferred rooms at my 1st choice resort were gone!

Thank you very much everyone! One last question - a couple of you mentioned that if you book through AAA, they are your "travel agent" and must handle any changes, but someone said that they made their own ADRs and then called and gave the confirmation numbers to AAA.

Why would you need to do that? I was thinking that even if I did the AAA package with DDP, I would still do my ADRs and that wouldn't be something that has anything to do with AAA? :confused3

if you wish to change any aspect of your room or ticket portions, you must go through the AAA agent. If you wish to add or cancel the DDP, you must go through your AAA Agent. Your ADR's belong to you. You can make, change, add, drop as you choose on your own. Some good AAA agents, and they are not all good at Disney, can and will offer to do this for you but I am obssessive enough to want to do the ADR part myself!!!
