Hi All
My cousin's are on their way to the airport and called me with a question I can not answer...They decided last night (last minute) to rent a car and not use magical express. They want to know if their luggage is already tagged can they still use magical express for the luggage? My response was no, but I wanted to check for sure.

Thanks in advance.

Their luggage will be in their room in about 4 hours if they leave the Disney tags on them. If they take them off they will have to wait for the luggage to come down to the baggage floor.

If they don't check in and ride the bus to Disney, their luggage is not supposed to be transported via Magial Express. Note that the whole family doesn't have to ride - they could send one person on the bus and the rest go in the rental car.

Note that, as is being discussed in other theads, Disney does not necessarily follow their rules, and it sounds like the luggage will go even if they don't.

Salmoneous,

Go back and read some of the previous posts. All luggage tagged with the Disney tags go to Disney whether you check in at the Welcome Center or not. It is in a CONTRACT, which I have read, set up between the airport and Disney. The tagged luggage during the day never hits the carousels, it heads to the Disney sorting location directly from the plane. The untagged Disney luggage goes into the terminals to be sent to the carousels. Your advise contains errors. By contract, all Disney tagged luggage goes to Disney.

The airport doesn't operate on , "you take this and I will take that" type of arrangement. The contract governs the operation.

This seems to be a case where written Disney policy is superseded with Disney's contract with MCO

BUT guests who check in at the DME desk tell Disney how many bags were checked. Guests who don't checkin at the DME desk might have some issues if their luggage is lost by the airlines. Most "lost" luggage winds up showing up on a later flight and will just get sent to WDW. The issue would be if your bag is lost or damaged (handles and tags ripped off).
