Quick Question for Everyone.

Britt and I printed out a book last year of thumbnails of all the pins in the database at the time. Which was just over 2600 at the time now of course there are quite a few more than that. I am working on updating my book in the next few days. It was a big hit at WDW because you could see pics of pins and pin numbers...etc. It is esp. nice if you have the palm program as well. We were asked repeatedly whether we would sale these on the site. We looked into it but the cost of having them printed was too much if didn't have a lot of orders. We had printed ours out on our printer but that wouldn't work either as it takes too long for each one for us to do as many as people want....

So we were trying to think of a way that we could get the info out to everyone in a way they could print it out with out making the hits on PinPics and the downloads go through the roof...(which we didn't want as we already get a lot of hits each day). What we were thinking was that if we burned the thumbnails onto CD's then trade a pin for it (rack pins would be fine then They would have the Thumbnails and they could print them out... What do you think of that idea? The only thing we haven't figured out is how to get updates to everyone.

I would like to know what you guys think about this idea. I am thinking about bringing a few burned CDs to the pin event to see how they fly...

It could always be updated on a regular basis but it would be a starting point. Hope you think of something(and I know you will you two smarty pants you).

I would rather see a pinpics feature that allowed us to select the pinpics thumbnails we wanted to download and then a program gathered the pics and ran all the files as a compressed download to a location the user designated. One option would still be to "select all." Also, like one of the other new features that have been discussed, it would be great if we could get our selection list either through checking them off in the browse by page mode, or by entering the numbers into a dialogue box.

Robyn, I kind of do what your suggesting already (printing thumbnails of the pics I want). I created a pin group and then inputed the pins I wanted. I do this so I could print a list of the pins I wanted to buy at DL or WDW, or send the list with my Mom so she could buy me pins and know right off the bat which ones I wanted.

It doesn't work too well for large lists, because you have to figure out the number and then input them. I wish there was a feature that would let you add a multiple numbers at once instead of one at a time.

First thank you for the suggestion. However this is something that we already considered and for various reasons decided wouldn't work. The jpg files are already compressed and they don't compress much more than they are now. The biggest problem with this is that we have over 2500 users. Now figure that half of them want to download images and half those want to do a select all. Plus figure in updates and all that. This would be an enourmous number of downloads everyday. Plus the number of thumbnails that fit on a page on the site are not the same as the number that fit on a page that gives you an image large enough to see. Only 72 images fit on a page that is printable. And we do that from a computer here after doing a backup of the site.

We did consider this as an option last year when we only had 2600 pins in the database and decided it just wasn't feasible and now that we have almost 6000 actual pics it is even more a problem. The thing about the CD is that it isn't something that has to be download from online. I hope this made sense.

Did anyone see the auction a couple of days ago for the Disney PINventory program for computers? It sounds really neat. You add pictures, notes, artists' name, lots of stuff. It sounds kinda like what you guys are talking about. Holds information for over 10,000 pins. You guys should go check it out under the completed auctions. Just search for 'disney pinventory'. Maybe you can get some ideas!!!

Cancel that... Don't look under completed items... It's up for auction again. Twenty of them actually. It looks very neat!

The CD sounds like a great idea! I'd like to see updates once or twice a year.
